Is anyone watching the update from Texas and saw the protestor who interrupted? I was wondering what he said? I thought I heard him say this is your fault.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

As Abbott prepared to hand the mic to Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, Democrat Beto O’Rourke, who is running against Abbott in the November election, stood up and interrupted the press conference, trying to make a statement as people on the stage shouted him down.
"This is on you", O'Rourke said as he charged towards Abbott pointing.

Thank you!
Did you hear them call him a "sick sonofabitch"?
He's not the one still speaking at the NRA event in a few days.
I think what just pushes me into inferno rage is that even IF it was a mental health issue, they don't want to do anything to help with that either. They don't want universal healthcare, and easy access to doctors. We know this because these same people have it on their voting records and campaign speeches to strip it away.
Also. It could have been worse?! HOW THE FUCK IS 19 KIDS AND 2 TEACHERS DEAD NOT THE WORST?!
Basically, wanderingback, this. The right already THINKS we want to take their guns, and see where that has gotten us? Now- granted, that can go both ways. If they already think that, then why not just follow up and go for that? Other countries have done it!
Of course, other countries don't have the 2A or the NRA turning this into something it wasn't ever supposed to be. But I guess I just feel that as a basic talking point, trying to find some middle ground MIGHT get us just a little further. Or maybe not. I really don't know. But both sides going in with their heels dug in and with their extreme side being the ONLY option to put on the table.... well, that really won't get us anywhere (unless we can vote our useless representatives out of office, of course).
The NRA has fucked this country up.
I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree. The middle ground has gotten us nowhere safer so it seems about time to change talking points and strategy. It’s really unfortunate that things are characterized as an extreme side to want less guns and less people killed (either on purpose or accidentally). Even just calling that an extreme side is wrong in my opinion. Let’s not keep normalizing unnecessary death, now that’s what is extreme.

I agree with this.
Hell, even this entire thread is a carbon copy of every other thread we've had about a school shooting. Same disbelief. Same outrage. Same reacting to the same statements from Republicans (although the names have changed). It's just... aren't y'all tired?
I haven't talked to my kids about it and I don't think I plan to unless E asks. A is 4, she won't really understand, although I think they've done drills at daycare (which, why the fuck does that need to be a thing). I know E somewhat recently did a drill. He's 7 and a pretty sensitive kid. I know if I tell him, he's going to absolutely fear going to school. He has become a huge germaphobe since the pandemic. He loves school, and I don't want to take that away from him if I can help it. I'll of course talk to him if he brings it up, but I just don't know how to explain to him that there are people in this world that will not only kill several children like him, but there are a TON of people in power that will do absolutely nothing about it.
We've decided to take a similar tactic with our 8 year old. Not tell her unless she asks. And if she does, bungle through it and probably end up screwing it up. 😉
She's been doing lockdown drills since daycare and I assume there's been at least some explanation of why but IDK.

It's not that middle ground has gotten us nowhere. It's that fear mongering and overly broad interpretations of the second amendment have prevented us from even reaching a middle ground. I am with you on wanting less guns or ideally no guns. But a middle ground that includes extreme vetting for gun sales/transfers, robust gun registries, safe storage requirements, authority for police to confiscate a person's guns when necessary, and serious penalties for violations would save many lives.
I think the "common sense" branding is good because rhetoric of banning guns only fuels right-wing fear mongering, but I believe there are people who will come around to supporting incremental change. For example Rep. Lucy McBath flipped her seat in the conservative-ish north Atlanta suburbs by running on a platform of common sense gun control.
The conservative majority on the Supreme Court is potentially poised to take down one of the nation’s oldest and most restrictive gun-control laws this summer. New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen will be the court’s first major Second Amendment case in more than a decade and happens to be coming amid rising national gun violence and an uptick in gun sales in recent years. What the justices decide could unravel laws across the nation restricting who can carry guns in public.

I've now found that the "sick sonofabitch" comment came from the Mayor of Uvalde. Four days ago he argued that illegal immigrants are given more personal freedoms than American citizens under the Biden administration, so I'm guessing those words about Beto weren't just about today.
I think what just pushes me into inferno rage is that even IF it was a mental health issue, they don't want to do anything to help with that either. No white middle-aged male millionaires were killed, that is what they consider the "worst."
This is so fucking disgusting. How are you going to stand there and tell 18 parents who have to bury their babies that it could have been worse? I just… There are no words to describe the rage.
Someone on Twitter also pointed out that school shooting victims are very often adult woman teachers in addition to the children. And those that control gun laws are usually white men.
I can and can't believe its so soon that I am saying this again, but H, a teacher said he will quit on the spot the day teachers are required to be armed.
I am so sick of the false narrative that more guns will somehow solve the issue.
I will quit if teachers are even ALLOWED to do this. I refuse to be a scapegoat and bear the responsibility for this. Ain’t no way.

Regarding the Onion (per axios)
The top 21 stories on The Onion homepage today all had the identical headline: "'No Way To Prevent This,' Says Only Nation Where This Regularly Happens."
The backstory: The satirical site first used the headline in May 2014, after the Isla Vista killings, when a gunman killed six people near U.C. Santa Barbara.
The Onion has used that headline, with slightly updated text, after each new tragedy. "Why this Onion article goes viral after every mass shooting," The Washington Post wrote in 2017.
“With sorrow—for this Court, but more, for the many millions of American women who have today lost a fundamental constitutional protection—we dissent,”
Cruz's fucking smug ass face shaking his head in that Beto clip. I would never punch someone but that fucker right there ... he tests me.
The bolded does not describe me at all. I would 100% punch him (and a few others) right in the fucking face if I ever got the chance. It would be worth the assault charge. I know some lawyers.

Just don't express this on Facebook. It will get you put in timeout. Ask me how I know...

And the implications of THIS: Parents waited late into Tuesday night at a civic center to learn whether their children had survived, some having given DNA to help authorities identify victims
I'm going to put this as delicately as I can... I don't think they could identify some of the victims based on facial structure/teeth without the help of dna. Based on the reports, where they were shot would make facial recognition hard.

Like, the President of Ukraine had to take time from the siege of his country and the war crimes being committed against his people to express condolences for us. We are such a brokeass joke of a failed nation.

You guys. Watching that clip of Beto with a room full of old, white men screaming at him….I am so full of rage. The mayor of Uvalde…let that sink in…THE MAYOR of where children were murdered yesterday was calling him a “sick sonofabitch” for standing up and calling Abbott out on doing nothing. Someone else yelled something like “guys like you caused this”. Where can we possibly go from here? What can honestly be done? I am donating, I’m a part of Moms Demand, I vote for the people who have some sense of decency in this truly fucked up world, but how can this be how our children grow up? I am complete doom and gloom right now and I don’t know how anything changes. Until the white men are the only ones left with any rights at all is where this country is headed.

I’m ranting. I’m sorry.
I'm with you on the Mayor. Just days ago he was interviewed talking about how illegal immigrants have more rights than citizens under Biden, so you know he was unleashing a lot of rage at Beto that he likely thinks about Democrats in general.
