I know the second episode was really long, but man, it FLEW by for me. I loved it, but of course hated parts of it.
Maybe it didn’t seem so long since I had just seen Elvis the day before and THAT was a long movie!
Same! The 8th episode (right? The 1.5 hour one) DRAGGED. OMG. SO SLOW. I'm SOOOOO over Papa and the damn lab. OVER IT.
But the last episode - I was nervous going into it. Was it going to take forever? Nope. Flew by.
I didn't like the very end, though. It felt rushed/purely setting up for Season 5. People are dead, no they aren't! But how? Don't know! Oh... and there's a glowing red crack in the ground, but it's just an earthquake.... life back to normal!
The end where everyone was just either leaving (smart) or staying and acting like normal was so strange. Lol! Strange. I'm surprised I cried when Dustin was talking with Eddie's uncle. I was totally fine with everything until that point. Gaten played that part so well! Eddie's death was so pointless too! I mean, he did it because he wanted to help, but it wasn't needed. At least he tried to protect Dustin.
I really wish they'd have filmed the 5th season concurrently with the 4th. The kids are adults (or nearly there) now and it shows.
Do you think they should have just killed off Max? I love her character but I saw an interview where Millie Bobby Brown said the creators never want to kill anyone off and the cast is huge (paraphrasing).
Also I agree that they should have filmed 5 at the same time. These kids are going to look 25 by the time season 5 comes out (which looks like there’s 0 time passed between seasons 4 and 5)

This isn't really answering your direct question but I know there was quite a bit of speculation about whether or not Steve would die during this season.
They kind of have Steve set up as a beloved character who is established as a need who plays off he's "cool," and cares for the younger boys AND now there is a love triangle between him, Nancy and Jonathan. The Duffers would never kill him.
In a similar way, it's almost like they can't kill max. She is 11's friend, Lucas love interest and most likely an important key to the Upside Down and Vecna. I think they could have killed her, and the kids would have come together over the loss of one of their own..and I think they would have done such a good job (see Dustin grieving over Eddie!) But I feel like the show just doesn't want to go that way...
I hated the Jason storyline. He was obnoxious and over the top and it felt like such a waste of screen time. It just didn't seem like it added any value to the story at all. We were convinced that they must have been leading up to some sort of important storyline with him in season five, but apparently not.
If they start killing characters off for the sake of shock value, I'm going to be upset.
Personally, I think Jonathan is a character who has really, really stalled. His wig is horrible, the acting is bad, bad storyline....
If he was to suffer at the wings of upside down bats to resolve a triangle.
Well. We still have Charlie Heaton on instagram looking like Harry Styles.
I understand the show isn't GOT, but also, the plot is about them fighting an evil unknown other world.
It is a dangerous exploration.
you're not wrong... but I will still be upset. I'm not saying this show needs to be puppies and rainbows, and I get that it deals with a lot of dark/adult themes. I'm sure season 5 will involve some main characters dying. That doesn't mean I have to like it 😜

I was more worried for the kids when Jason and his gang were buying guns than when they were fighting in the Upside Down. Now if that doesn’t tell you the state of America…

Jonathan was definitely sidelined this season, except when he stepped up in the final episode for Will. He noticed Will and the turmoil he is going thru over Mike. I thought it was a nice moment when he let him know he was always there for him.

I agree...I read a review about monologues and the reviewer pointed out that Jonathon has this lovely moment with Will, but never actually says what's going on.
And I totally agreed! And then I kind of felt bad for Jonathan again bc I think he has been sidelined.
Jonathan heard Will telling Mike his feelings in the car, and he saw Will subbing in 11, for himself. He knows what's going on.

That scene in the gun store was terrifying.
I also loved that scene with Will and Jonathan. Will knew exactly what he was saying without them having to say it out loud.
I wasn't expecting to cry at Stranger Things, but Eddie's death, and Dustin talking to his uncle got me.

OMG. Yes. I was a wreck. I suspected that someone would die, and I guess I kind of knew he's the most likely one - but MAN. I really liked him.

So, I thought that Jason's group was going to eventually get it together and join with the Scoops troop.
I felt like that was my hope in humanity or something, but no. They were representatives of really illogical and dangerous thought and..idk. I thought they didn't add a whole lot to the show.
It was odd seeing the cast in the Army/Navy store. For one thing, I have been in a store exactly like that and they are exactly like that lol.
I wasn't really bothered by Steve and Robin buying supplies for molotov cocktails or even Nancy buying a rifle, but Jason getting one, was incredibly chilling.

I heard on a podcast that they’re planning to have a 2-3 year jump in time between seasons 4 and 5, so the kids will be playing characters that are closer to their real ages in season 5. I’m not sure how that will work with the storyline. Like will Hawkins just be a mess for 3 years? It looked like they hurt Vecna, so maybe he’ll be regaining his strength during that time and things will be stable for a few years until season 5 starts.
One theory is that Max is kind of in between the real world and the Upside Down, and she’ll be able to help fight Vecna that way.
I don’t understand how they can realistically hide El in that cabin in Hawkins. The bad military guys know to look for her in Hawkins.
So tangentially related: Doja Cat asked Noah Schnapp to set her up with Joseph Quinn, and he shared their DMs, and now she’s pissed.
And part two.
I don’t blame her for being upset! I would think there must be some celebrity code against that. But maybe check the age of kid you are reaching out to before DMing! It looked like they had chatted before so I guess she thought they were friendly?
