The House select committee will hold its first public hearing this week, on June 9 at 8 p.m. ET. Sources told CNN this hearing will be a broad overview of the panel's 10-month investigation and set the stage for subsequent hearings, which are expected to cover certain topics or themes.
While the setup of the hearings has been a work in progress and evolving, sources note, the presentations will likely feature video clips from January 6, as well as some of the roughly 1,000 interviews the committee has conducted behind closed doors.
The leader of the far-right Proud Boys group and four associates have been charged with seditious conspiracy related to the Jan. 6, 2021 attack that was intended to block Congress from certifying the results of the 2020 election.
It's the second group to face the rare and serious charge of conspiring to overthrow the government or prevent the execution of U.S. law tied to the deadly siege on the U.S. Capitol. Eleven members of the Oath Keepers group, including leader Stewart Rhodes, were charged with seditious conspiracy earlier this year.
Proud Boy leader Enrique Tarrio wasn't on the Capitol grounds during the insurrection, but prosecutors say he helped coordinate the violent effort to disrupt the electoral count that day. As the violence unfolded, Tarrio allegedly posted "Proud of my boys and my country" on social media.
This is airing on the major networks (ABC, NBC, CBS) so it will be interesting the reaction. On the west coast its 5-7p which is local news time and usually a time when lots of viewers are watching.
They’re going to have a bunch of stuff we haven’t seen/heard before. 🤮 Anyone else think this might backfire horribly? And/or should have been closer to midterms?
The hearing will open with statements by Rep. Bennie Thompson (D., Miss.), chairman of the committee, and Rep. Liz Cheney (R., Wyo.), who will lay out the broad scope of the findings of the investigation, the committee aides said. The hearing will attempt to put the events of Jan. 6 in historical context, showing how it was an aberration in American democracy, according to the committee aides
The presentation is likely to include recorded testimony of senior Trump administration officials, according to committee aides. Recorded testimony of Trump family members, including Ivanka Trump, could feature in the hearing Thursday or in future hearings.

I don't think it's going to backfire, but I do think it's going to be a lot of preaching to the choir. People who think it wasn't a big deal won't bother tuning in, it won't be covered on Fox, even if they do happen to hear snippets, they'll dismiss it as "fake news". The people who do watch are already outraged and are just going to be more outraged when they hear the new stuff.
I firmly believe that turnout is the only thing that is going to win elections going forward. I think the swing voter is mostly a myth, save for a few anecdotes people have about their Aunt Kathy who changed her mind because of XYZ. So maybe the added outrage of the people who are already going to vote can help encourage us/them to help with turnout (block walking, driving people to the polls, etc).

This kills me. Literally just depriving them of info at their preferred info source.
I just don't think many people will watch. No one watches live TV anymore. I set my DVR to record it, but I honestly doubt I'll watch the whole thing. I makes me too angry.

And even if more people are disturbed about the findings, the only issue that matters to lots of voters is gas prices. Everything else could be on fire as long as gas prices remain low.
I love how he’s framing this. He’s calm, he’s measured, but he’s not fucking around.
Coming out swinging.
“In the United States, law abiding citizens have those tools for pursuing justice. He lost in the courts, just as he did at the ballot box, and in this country, that’s the end of the line. But for Donald Trump, that was only the beginning of what became a sprawling, multi-step conspiracy aimed at overturning the presidential election, aimed at throwing out the votes of millions of Americans — your votes, your voice, and our democracy — and replacing the will of the American people with his will to remain in power after after his turn ended.” 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
