Trump's treason, specifically, which surprises me somehow. I really didn't think they'd aim that high from the outset, but it's clear they're going to lay everything at his feet even though there are other obvious big-name actors who played significant roles in what ultimately happened.

Just how clearly this demonstrates that everyone in Trump’s circle knew the voter fraud crap was a lie, knew he lost, and were worried about Trump but were a-ok parroting his lies and saying nothing makes me feel dispair. Same with how it — and the talking points GOp leadership is using — shows they are happy to Pooh Pooh Jan 6 and encourage the voter fraud narrative despite knowing the former was serious and the latter is BS.

The GOP (with the exception of Liz Cheney and Adam Kisinger) have no principles but self-interest and power. Not one of them were willing - or interested? Or even considered? - standing up for what was right - telling the truth, playing by the rules, country over party/yourself. And I knew that, but this makes it so crystal clear, and it is terrifying to think that people with no principles or respect for rules might (probably will) be in charge soon. If I start to try to think about where we will be in 5 or 10 years I legit start to have an anxiety attack because I don’t see any scenario where it is good.

Nope. Not at all. I think it’s good that you know your limits and create boundaries to protect them. You obviously are not sticking your head in the sand about it or pretending it didn’t happen.

Like I said above, I chose to watch on C-span because I knew additional input before/during/after would not be good for me. I also didn’t watch most of the footage. I think it’s important that it is shown and on record, but I don’t feel it was necessary for me to watch again tonight.

While I would LOVE for that to be true, I don’t think it’s likely. From my understanding, these hearings are to get everything on the record for historical purposes. The committee can’t really do anything. The DOJ would have to get involved in order for there to be any charges…and I don’t think that’s likely to happen.

What it will do, however, is clearly document for everyone until the end of time to see that Trump was awful and guilty of a LOT of things, but for various reasons, was never charged with anything. We will all look like fools in retrospect for not figuring out a way to send him to prison forever & ever, amen. I hope that it’ll help close gaps so that nothing like this ever happens again.

I’d love for that not to be the case, and for it to end up with Trump on trial, but based on what I understand is happening, that is unlikely to happen. I’m not getting my hopes up.

The fact that they have already started arresting people is encouraging to me. They want an airtight case.

It would be 100% impossible to get an impartial jury.

IMO - they are doing this to make sure he doesn't run again not charge him with treason.  He was impeached and acquitted for Jan 6th already.  There's still a decent chance Trump tries to run again.  This is bigger than Trump TBH at this point. we need to make sure we change our rules so that somebody more sophisticated doesn't break our country.  There have been tons of people elected to state/local offices who ran on the platform of overturning elections they didn't like....that's a threat to democracy more important than charging trump with treason.

Oh, it’s not just about Trump. Lots of people are going down.

I don’t think they would have come out swinging the way they did last night if they didn’t have the receipts for this to really go somewhere.

Also, it doesn’t matter that Trump was acquitted in the second impeachment trial. He can be tried criminally for his role in this.

They really just need to start making it seem like some of these people will go to jail because every.single.one. of those involved would sell Trump out to save themselves in less than a heartbeat. No one is actually loyal to him, they are all just trying to stay in power and don't want to piss off his base. But they will turn if truly threatened. Including and ESPECIALLY Jared and Ivanka.
