I haven't been to Bob Evans in quite a while. I really like their seasonal chicken salad sandwich though.
I'm looking at new jobs but haven't applied. I really like what I do, but got lucky getting hired because I knew people. I really don't like the company, though. I know that there will be issues at a lot of places, but somewhere that takes covid a little more seriously, where the ceo doesn't go around and ask employees to sign petitions to get shitty Trumpers on the ballot, etc would be nice. I am assuming I won't find anything though since I was not qualified on paper for this and have only been here about a year.
Today we leave our small college town part of our kid free vacation and go to an amusement park a few hours away. H and I love roller coasters! We like to go on them multiple times in a row. Yes we are kids at heart. <3
Captain Catnip do whatever a mediocre white man would do. They get hired for tons of jobs they aren't qualified for on paper.
Today is my Dad's birthday, though he's been gone for many years. Anyway, he loved The Lone Ranger so I looked up the William Tell Overture to post to Facebook and found EXACTLY what I needed.

Yeah, I'm still applying to some, but haven't had luck. Pretty much immediately get the "I'm sorry" email, I assume since I don't have a, college degree.

It’s my first day of summer vacation, finally. The kids were done on the 31st but I worked the summer acceleration program until the 17th. Cut my summer a little short but the money was good so oh well.
I’m gonna drop the kids off at daycare and then my dad is coming over to help rip down the old swingset put together the new one. It’s only supposed to be 90 degrees today which is unheard of in Vegas in June so I’m taking advantage.

I'm sorry. Job hunting can be so demoralizing.
It sucks because i applied to 300+ before this job, and I knew that it wasn't going to be a liberal paradise, lol, but didn't expect it to be as shitty as it is company wise.

I just signed up for my first mammogram. I was supposed to do it last year when I turned 40, but never made the appointment. Then I found out that the mobile mamm-o-van would be in the office parking lot tomorrow. So there we go. At least I'll have it done before I turn 41 lol.
Dropped DD at week-long Girl Scouts camp yesterday. It's so weird only having one kid in the house. Of course, DS caught a little stomach bug yesterday, and while he's totally fine today, we kept him home from day camp to let him rest up. He's talk-talk-talkin' away, eating normally, and no fever, so I's say he's back to normal!

School is closed for me today, in observance of Juneteenth. It’s also a day with nothing scheduled at all for us. H’s brother and family came in last week from the Midwest where they live, right after a really busy week for us, with Lucy’s graduation and dance. We’ve barely been home in the last week except to sleep and shower/change clothes, and the house looks like it.
Father’s Day kind of eclipsed David’s birthday yesterday. H took him shopping last night to kind of make up for it. It’s becoming apparent to everyone else (something my mom pointed out to me, years ago) that ALLLLLLL H’s parents talk about is SIL’s perfect children. David even said “I think everyone forgot it’s my birthday today”. At our Father’s Day visit, they were sitting in the dining room looking at my nephew’s yearbook- the same kid whose graduation party we were all at just the day before.
I’m proud of my boy, though. He went in and said “hey can we sing happy birthday to me now?”
I am working today, which I am annoyed about. My employer has a huge focus on racial equity so I am really surprised that we don't have today off - I am guessing it has something to do with the creation of yearly calendars and it being a recent federal holiday, and we'll have it off next year? Anyway, being white I really shouldn't complain since it's not a personal holiday for me anyway, I just want a day off. With such limited vacation time in my job we have ended up scheduling a lot of stuff over holiday weekends, which means I am almost never going to have a random weekday off at home.
The good news is that I work from home, and it's gorgeous out, so I'm sitting on my deck working. We finally set up the umbrella that we bought a while back (which took all of 10 minutes so IDK why we didn't do it sooner...) and so it should be nice and shady all day. Which is good, because I got a bit sunburned at brunch yesterday!
We went to see Tears for Fears in concert last night, and they were really great. Garbage opened for them, which is funny because they also opened at the Alanis Morisette concert I went to last August so I've seen them twice in the last year, after never seeing them before that. It was also beautiful weather yesterday so it was a really pleasant evening.
I slept like total garbage last night. I fully intend on taking a nap in my warm car at lunch time.
DS2 had a baseball tournament this past weekend in a city that was about 3 hours away, so we stayed in a hotel with the rest of the team. I am so peopled out. I have to go to the grocery store tonight and I don't want to deal with people so I may just do curbside pick up.

Happy birthday to your Dad. And thank you for sharing that link, that is one of my favorite pieces of music.
Dad had great stories about listening to The Lone Ranger on the radio as a kid. Well, usually he'd laugh because without fail, it seemed his mother or sister needed water from the well *right* when The LR was starting.
For me, it's poignant - After Dad passed, I flew to NM to help my stepmom organize the memorial service. I flew home, took the shuttle to my car, turn the engine over, and the radio was playing this piece, at exactly The Lone Ranger part. It felt like my father planned it all to say goodbye.
I live in MN for a reason - I like the cold. It is 9:30 and already 85 degrees with it heading to 100 today. I have to lead an orientation meeting later this afternoon and our conference room vents are messed up, so the A/C doesn't work in there. Please pray for me.

This makes me so mad! Kids have their whole adult lives ahead of them to have their birthdays take a back seat to this, that and the other. Celebrate the kids, it’s such a special day for them!

I'm trying to figure out what to do with my guest room/office. It's not overly large, so I was leaning towards a day bed. I do have a couple friend that wants to come stay and obviously a day bed won't work for them. I had considered a trundle but there's really not room and would a couple want to sleep on a day bed/trundle? The other people who will come stay with me are single, so a twin will be adequate, I don't want them too comfortable and staying too long. With putting a desk in there, the only way to make it work, one side of the bed has to go against the wall.

I’ve reached new levels of extra with my scout troop.
They’re earning their detective badge. My co-leader dumped these meetings on me, but I feel like I’ve rebounded and made something cool for them to do. I re-tooled Where in the World is Carmen SanDeigo to a Girl Scout themed mystery game.
My H is a comms guy, so he brought home a green screen and helped me record assignments like I was The Chief (RIP, Lynne Thigpen! You’re the best!). I made 4 mysteries for them to solve - handwriting match, eyewitness observation/accuracy, code breaking and fingerprinting. Each correct answer will give them a letter to unlock my bike lock, and they’ll open a box of s’mores fixings as their reward.
I’m so excited for our meeting tonight. I hope it works and the kids aren’t like, “She’s lost her mind, this is so dumb.”
I forgot the kids had off today for Juneteenth, plus DH is OOT for work and unfortunately scheduled my hair appointment for today. I mean, they are 15 and 10 so fine staying home alone for a few hours but I feel bad. The little guy doesn’t love being home alone and the big kid basically ignores him. Oh well.
DS1 leaves for camp (7 weeks) on Thursday and I haven’t started labeling or packing. I have a feeling Wednesday is going to be a shit show lol
Patsy Baloney No way. My mom was our troop leader and so many girls considered her their own mom too.
I really feel strongly about giving people their flowers when you see them, and you are so, so good at this. How cool is it that you've found your niche-- both for you and your kids/troop. You're making core memories and you're SO good at it.

What about a Futon? Would that work in the space?
It would. Is there such a thing as a comfortable futon? My mom is 63 and I worry about her sleeping on a futon.

Totally! There are plenty of good quality futons out there. The comfort on them is two fold, you want to make sure that you have a solid base, and make sure that it is a decent mattress. You can always add a cover as well if you need something more plush. I've been looking in to getting a futon, so spent a lot of time Googling "best futon"

I think a thick mattress on one can work. I've slept on one (maybe had one? I'm getting old, I don't remember lol) and it was fine.
That said, I wouldn't plan your long term situation based on this one couple. Could you also get a twin air mattress and just have one of them sleep on that while the other sleeps in the twin/daybed? Unless they are coming regularly, they should be able to just deal with whatever you have available when the visit.

I'm surprised that my company hasn't added Juneteenth to their observed holidays. It's looking like a quiet day in the office though, and I'm only working through Wednesday then we're heading up north for a long lake weekend. I'm not even mad about how hot it is!
Patsy Baloney My big troop “only” did the detective badge through the International Spy Museum on Zoom during Covid. Your idea sounds awesome, good for you, and how lucky for the kids!

I'm going to see them in Philly tomorrow night! I can't wait wait! I'm glad to hear they performed well. I still have a crush on Curtis.
