We went to see Tears for Fears in concert last night, and they were really great. Garbage opened for them, which is funny because they also opened at the Alanis Morisette concert I went to last August so I've seen them twice in the last year, after never seeing them before that. It was also beautiful weather yesterday so it was a really pleasant evening.
I'm going to see them in Philly tomorrow night! I can't wait wait! I'm glad to hear they performed well. I still have a crush on Curtis.
Oh yay! I am sure you will have a great time. They did play a lot of stuff from their new album that we were unfamiliar with, but they also played all of their biggest hits and the new stuff was actually pretty decent so it was overall a good show.
I'm trying to figure out what to do with my guest room/office. It's not overly large, so I was leaning towards a day bed. I do have a couple friend that wants to come stay and obviously a day bed won't work for them. I had considered a trundle but there's really not room and would a couple want to sleep on a day bed/trundle? The other people who will come stay with me are single, so a twin will be adequate, I don't want them too comfortable and staying too long. With putting a desk in there, the only way to make it work, one side of the bed has to go against the wall.
I put a loveseat that pulls out into a full sized bed. My sister is the only one that stays so far and she likes it. Oh, I have also slept on it to quarantine and it was fine. And it's comfortable to read on when I want to be alone. I love the idea of a murphy bed, but then you lose the seating aspect.
We had such a good weekend! Went to a local community mercantile fair Friday night - I bought way too many candles and we tried a bunch of ciders. Saturday we spent the day tailgating for the Kenny Chesney concert, and it was chilly which is so unheard of this time of year. We had jackets on most of the time. The show was awesome! Old Dominion and Dan & Shay opened, and they were fantastic.
We didn't get home until 1am, and we needed to be up somewhat early to go to the countertop showroom to pick out the granite we want for the basement bar. Thank god my H and I have similar tastes and we agreed on the same 3 colors pretty quick. We were able to take samples with us so we can compare them with the cabinets.
So nice to not have to go back to work until tomorrow after vacation. I'm guessing 95% of my emails from last week are trash at this point anyway.
I went to costco this morning and couldn't find my credit card. I had my debit at least. I thought I had lost it until I remembered I put it in my pocket Sat night to get ice cream. Phew.
Rest of today is finishing up laundry and vacuum, dusting upstairs. E is doing horseback riding camp today and is going to spend Wed-Fri with my parents so they can just take her from their house, so I need to pack her bag for camp/parents.
People in the never ever thread mentioned the Great Wolf Lodge. Why? Some friends want to do a weekend there with kids. What's so terrible about it?
I’m grossed out by indoor water parks and it always seems overrun by obnoxious kids whose parents are ignoring them. (Grain of salt — I’m a middle school teacher, I’m easily annoyed, I have a low tolerance for noise and entitlement, so maybe not the best judge )
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
Spent way too much money this weekend. Friday night I powerwashed my back patio and then it looked so pretty, I wanted to update some of my stuff. So I got a pretty outdoor rug for under the table, replaced a few broken chairs, replaced the broken umbrella, and spray painted a few things that were looking kind of beat. On top of that, I moved my Smoker and Griddle off of the patio to make some more room and am building a little paver patio off to the side for them to live. I thought that was going to be an inexpensive project, but it still ended up being a little over $300 in supplies. I'm excited now for it to get done.
I also went to Costco and managed to snag the last package of Tomahawk Ribeye steaks and am going to cook them on the smoker for dinner for my birthday tomorrow, I'm very excited about that.
I'm half watching Conversations with Friends and really not getting the hype. Also TSwift's boyfriend is not a great actor in this show (I'm not sure if it's him, the character, or both).
We’ve been wanting to get steamed crabs and our usual place seems to have gone out of business so I’ve been looking for alternatives. I love menus that list “salads” but they are all strictly of the potato salad, macaroni salad and coleslaw variety.
It has been harder to find a good crab place than you’d think! The ones closest to us were either too black pepper heavy or use a ton of thyme or other seasonings on top of crab seasoning which is a little weird; steamed crabs aren’t something that people want or need a lot of innovation on. They are too expensive not to know what to expect going in. Niche problems, I know but you don’t want to spend $$$ and three hours picking just to be disappointed.
I’ve reached new levels of extra with my scout troop.
They’re earning their detective badge. My co-leader dumped these meetings on me, but I feel like I’ve rebounded and made something cool for them to do. I re-tooled Where in the World is Carmen SanDeigo to a Girl Scout themed mystery game.
My H is a comms guy, so he brought home a green screen and helped me record assignments like I was The Chief (RIP, Lynne Thigpen! You’re the best!). I made 4 mysteries for them to solve - handwriting match, eyewitness observation/accuracy, code breaking and fingerprinting. Each correct answer will give them a letter to unlock my bike lock, and they’ll open a box of s’mores fixings as their reward.
I’m so excited for our meeting tonight. I hope it works and the kids aren’t like, “She’s lost her mind, this is so dumb.”
I never would have dropped out if you were my leader! Or if we could get a detective badge!! This sounds so fun, they are going to love it.

I hear you! I'm lucky that we have a fantastic place less than a mile from my house that not only does amazing crabs but has tons of other great seafood as well.

Lucky!! I’m jealous! I think we might try a new spot today since it’s nice weather. People seem to like them online. They are a seafood market too so that would be a major bonus if we like them. Fingers crossed!
ETA and they are closed too! Back to the drawing board

I went for a weekend with two 5 year olds and had fun. It was also at the end of winter, so it was nice solution to cabin fever. I am a strong swimmer and I enjoy being in a pool for hours - I went down all of the slides and the girls had a ball. But anyone who does not like lots of swimming and walking around dripping wet in a bathing suite would not have a good time. It’s hard to keep track of your kids if you are not getting soaked. And at one point, I looked up at all of the water and slides and people and thought about the recycled water we were all sharing - not a great thought.
I liked it but I can see how it can be a hard pass for other people.

I assume it’s the ick factor of water parks. We have gone once a year for several year, my kids love it. There is one 20 min from our house so we try to go on a Thursday night to be cheaper. It’s no grosser to me than our neighborhood pool, seems like they do a good job of keeping it clean. Plus water slides are awesome!

We went for the first time in February and had a blast!! My kids are 8 and 12.
Is it a luxury vacation full of relaxation? No.
Is it a great place to really enjoy some time with your kids? Yes
And for the people who say “it’s gross with all those people in the water…”
Well, if you swim in public pools/hotel pools then GWL water is no different.
We stayed at a $$$ Disney hotel recently. They closed the pool multiple times during our stay because someone pooped. All they do is fish it out, dump in chemicals, wait a couple hours and let everyone back in.
So thankful today is a holiday in that I have a bunch of errands to run today and stuff to get done given that I spent all weekend either working OT or with family. I’m can feel my anxiety starting to ramp up though as I have to go back into the office tomorrow for the 1st time since March 2020. I’m only required to be in one day a week (Tuesdays right now) but I know it’s going to be a crazy day as nothing knowing my employer nothing is going to work/go as planned. Also, I have to get up sooooo early tomorrow!! And it’s been so long I can’t even remember all that I likely need to bring with me.
I took our 15yo cat to the vet this morning because it's clear she isn't feeling well and/or is in pain. The vet said her kidneys are failing and if we don't see an improvement in her eating/drinking within the next 5 days, we should put her down. Not a great way to start the week, that's for sure. But I'm also grateful that there's really nothing that can be done - we don't have to stress over whether to try XYZ treatment, etc. It's just, it is what it is. So now the only hard decision to make is "when." We'll probably take off Friday.
It would. Is there such a thing as a comfortable futon? My mom is 63 and I worry about her sleeping on a futon.
I actually just went through this for our guest room. My mom uses it a decent amount. We bought this, and it's actually nice. I put a foam topper on that we already have, since I like things a little more plush. I spent about a week sleeping on it when I fractured my ankle and was very comfortable.
However when I bought it it was only $200! I hate how much Amazon prices fluctuate Classic Brands Classic 8-Inch Futon Mattress with Independently Encased Innerspring Coils Brown Full a.co/d/9mxfYGE
We all have today off, and we're mostly relaxing. Yesterday we went to a Waterpark and it was a lot of fun for everyone, but also exhausting! I'm barely functioning today.
We went for a short hike this morning and watched an owl hunting a squirrel. It was going for like 30 minutes! And flying back and forth over the trail. It was so crazy, even being a biologist it's not something I ever really see! H took DD out to a playground so I can relax. He really is the best.
I do have to work tonight. We're going to survey fireflies, so I definitely need a nap before then or I'm not going to make it.

Some friends of mine recently described it as the Chucky Cheese of water parks. Is it fun for kids? Absolutely. But it’s loud and has tons of kids running around (having a great time!), so it’s less fun for parents. And there are creepy mascots.
I had bloodwork done this morning ahead of my annual physical next week. T2 diabetes runs in my family and I had gestational diabetes while pregnant both times so I am predisposed. My A1C went down from a high of 6.3 last June to 5.8 today!! I was thinking maybe 6.0/6.1. My total cholesterol and LDL are still slightly over but they also went down. I’m so happy! All that work at OTF is paying off (even if the weight itself is coming off slowly).

We went years ago when DD was 4 and I was very pregnant with DS. We had an okay time - DD loved the water, I was able to float. The room was ehh, but we had lowered expectations going in.
THEN we came home and we all got sick. DD got a cold, DH got bronchitis, and I got a cough/cold so bad that my OB was worried it would cause problems, even though I was 8 months pregnant.
So, while it was good time for kids, in my mind, it will always remind me of the time the whole family got crazy sick from whatever germ juice it created there.

We went to a GWL in VA last year. I thought it was a little expensive and probably wouldn't normally book it for full price, but H was doing a triathlon in the area, and it was one of the suggested hotels, and we got a really good rate for our room. My DS had a blast, and I thought that the rooms and the park seemed very clean. I'm not someone who really worries about germs though. They also made it really easy and convenient to order food via their app, so we liked that part too.
We did a similar trip in Erie PA to another place like that and went with friends, and it was even more fun because we could hang out with them/their kids in the hotel at night. I would do it!

I'm not too far from one in Virginia and it was known as where you went to get bedbugs. Hopefully with COVID they were able to clean it up, but that was the main issue. A coworker also had stuff stolen from her room when they stayed there and management was less than helpful.
It's a novelty and if you're in a colder climate a fun weekend during the winter months.
I had to buy a new dishwasher today, the moral of the story continues to be never buy samsung appliances! In 4.5 yrs we have replaced a fridge and now a dishwasher. Slowly switching to GE as they die off.
It is just unbearably hot here, June should not be THIS bad.
Also there is a thread on HIH for wordle. People just post their daily scores. I…don’t understand. I play wordle and enjoy it, but I really don’t give a fuck how many tries it took me, and definitely not anyone else. Lol.
Ok douche, go ahead and call it mud. My husband DID have halitosis. We addressed it after I talked to you girls on here and guess what? Years later, no problem. Mofongo, you're a cunt. Eat shit. ~anonnamus

I think it depends on the GWL. The one in Dallas is nasty. When we went a few years ago the mattress was wet and there was mold on the walls. We left the next day. DD did love it but nope. There are much better pool options.

I took my daughter and a friend there for an overnight and I thought it was great. I didn’t go in the water, I brought a book and a cocktail to the water park, the girls had a blast and I got to read and have a drink. It was expensive and the hotel room walls are paper thin, but it was an overall really fun time.
It’s too early to complain about the heat but I’m going to do it anyways.
WHY is it 102??? Gah. No relief in sight. Setting records for our warmest June ever. We spent last week in Seattle/Alaska. It never even reached 50. I miss that.

I wish anyone I knew did Artle. I got todays in 4 tries (the max), but I get Louise Nevelson and Louise Bourgeois confused all the time. But- see? No one cares!
