To me the best way to handle it would be for the mom to go to the daughter each time she wanted to show off her suit. The door opens. There is a mirror in there. They can have the conversation right at the room. She didn't have to walk out each time if that went against her comfort level.
Lol, that the mom didn't want a strange man gawking at her 19 year old daughter - when she is there to buy a bikini to wear, presumably, somewhere where lots of people could be gawking at her daughter. Team - mom is weird.
NGL as someone that also use to work at a clothing store I thought that is where this story was going lol. We just had a strict no two people in a dressing room, but there also was no sitting area or any extra space for people to be hanging out outside the stalls.
Right? I feel like being part of that TikTok meme: You can't hurt me, I worked in retail fitting rooms.
The things.i've.seen. š
So. Many. Things.
My first job post college was at a department store as a manager. I had to get security involved due to a man masturbating inside one of the fitting rooms. I am not sure what happened after security got involved but oh my goodness. That was a shock to 22 year old me. Department stores are wild. Retail is wild. You meet some amazing people and some absolutely bonkers ones.
You know no one would be asking this if it were a femme presenting person sitting on a bench waiting for a masculine presenting person.
It's assumed the moms/girlfriends/wives/daughters/female friends of the world get to preview and comment on the clothes of the presumed kids/boyfriends/husbands/fathers/male friends of the world.

I don't know how to say this without sounding like I'm defending the mother, because I'm not, my posts have been clear that I think she was in the wrong in this situation, but I do think it's less about expectations about who can comment on clothes and more about how masculine presenting persons are harmed by femme presenting people less often than the other way around.
I wonder where my spouse will wait when his child needs to try on clothes if not the bench outside the dressing roomā¦?
Right!? As the mother of boys, Iām sitting here wondering to myself what Iām supposed to do when I take them shopping in their teen years. Guessing nobody is going to object to me sitting on a bench in a store that caters to men.
