If I understand correctly she is 25 now so was 22-23 when this happened. I really want to give her the benefit of the doubt. She was so young and fresh out of college. My thoughts, experience, beliefs, and viewpoints have changed so much since I was 22.
Or maybe I’m just being nieve…
I’m really hoping being witness to this was enough to push her away from the Republicans.
Wow. I was with a friend and watching some of the testimony and I said to my friend "I wonder what Fox News spin will be on this". The fact they seem to actually be addressing it straight on- I'm shocked.
It’s worth watching. It’s just the one commentator and the other two are (at least initially) at a loss for words.
“He says he doesn’t know her.”
I am dying. Lollll How many fucking times has he used that??

She's sitting there talking about all the good Trump did (as in, that was her job as a staffer - letting people know all the good he did) so no, I don't think she's moving away from Republicans and any of their shit even if she doesn't want to be part of Jan 6th. At most she wants distance from TFG. But if DeSatan would have her, I'm sure she'd line up happily.

Eh.... she is/ was young. I'm sure she's a product of her environment/upbringing. If she does change her views, especially after this, great. But... does it really matter? She's ONE person. I don't know how much I care about her in and of herself.
If all this, and her testimony, sinks in and affects - as said earlier - a lot of moderate Rs, then THAT I call a win.
But her alone? I don't know how much energy I can put into caring if she comes around or not.

Fine no benefit of the doubt. I wasn’t able to watch so I all I got were highlights here and from news sites but if she’s still talking about the good he did then she doesn’t deserve redemption.
I won't be shocked if the GOP decides this is an opportune time to disavow Trump (but not Trumpism) and just go all in on DeSantis for 2024. He's Trump without the baggage.
This would be the smart thing to do. So they probably won't.

my power was off I was following on Twitter for a bit. I’ll try to look.
1. I think Mark Meadows said it
2. CH is Cassidy Hutchinson. She was today’s witness and she’s a senior aid to Meadows and he gave her his phones.
3. #HATH means Historians at the hearings. Heather Cox Richardson is a historian and I pulled this from her Twitter.
Re: #1, I believe it is the opposite. I believe the quote from PC to MM is "Mark, something needs to be done, or somebody is going to die and this is going to be on your effing hands."

I think the beast is too far gone at this point. They made a deal with the devil, tried to ride it out, and have sooooo many elected people in power on tape defending/downplaying what happened that day.
Even if they could somehow distance themselves from that, it’s a cult of personality. Their party is split between people who held their nose and voted for the guy with the R, and a legit cult.
The upstanding/“right” thing to do would be to use this to try to finally shove him off, but doing so guarantees they lose a LOT of voters. So they probably won’t.
“U.S. Secret Service has been cooperating with the Select Committee since its inception in spring 2021, and will continue to do so, including by responding on the record to the Committee regarding the new allegations surfaced in today’s testimony."

And way worse for all of us, since he is called Trump with brains!

I fear this scenario would be worse for Dems. It may pull some of the on the fences Rs back to the GOP.

exactly. I just said this tonight. Desantis is more dangerous.

The fact the fox was broadcasting this isn’t really interesting to me, most true MAGAs now get information from Newsmax and other sources. Our local conservative group mocks Fox and calls it CNN, so I’m just saying don’t count on this majorly changing a lot of peoples opinions. Also women like Meghan Kelley were done really dirty by the GOP and are still republicans, same with Meghan McCain. I just highly doubt that CH is going to become a lib over any of this

As poised as she was in an unimaginably scary situation (testifying I mean) I found myself almost sympathizing with her then nearly fell off my chair when she made reference THIS VERY DAY to the good he had done for the country.
She's a deep republican, she's not ever turning to a democrat. Although this might tank her career.
She seemed far too poised for someone who thought their career was ending. I bet she’s already well set up among those republicans who can’t wait for the Trump of it all to get out of the way so they can really get to work.

Yes. I think the main thing that scared her was the idea he was eating his own. She wasn't outraged at what was happening (because they had been stirring up shit for a while and she was calling all that "good works") as much as that someone like his own VP could be a target - if they can chant to hang him, anyone in that office could be next.
What’s really nutz with these hearings and when they talk about the people around him is that it’s just been accepted that 45 is unstable. Everyone blames the people around him because they didn’t give him good advice. It’s like it’s already established that he’s a nut and there is more blame on others than 45. He was goddamn potus.

I think many of us were young and dumb in our early 20s. FFS, I voted for bush the first time in my misguided ayn randian vote for opposite parties so gov't does nothing phase that lasted about 5 minutes. That's naivete, influenced by parents, friends, culture.
But I'm sure I would never have supported those so openly opposing rights for people I loved. I never would have accepted women not having bodily autonomy. That's what you have to accept with tfg's admin. And that makes you magascum. (to a 20 y.o. in 2000, Bush disguised it well enough, but I do now recognize it was there all along)
Yes, kudos for standing up to threats. Boos and hisses for being there in the first place

I watched an interview with Jake Tapper, Alyssa Farrah Griffin and Olivia Troye.
Griffin and Troye know Hutchinson and are openly conservative Republicans and on the interview even admitted to being MAGAS which is so ew to me, but ok.
She clearly was committed to the cause and rode that burning ship right into the harbor.
She said on Jan 4-5th when Rudy told her they were marching down was the first time her spidey senses got triggered that it might be going to get crazy..and it was only as she watched the riotors smash the windows of democracy that she was like "oh wow, enough!"
To ME, that's quite a heavy trigger load, but maybe bc she's young and spritely she could carry more or something lol.
hey... i'm a little nervous to ask this, but please know that it is a genuine question that i'm trying to understand.
i know the crazies are saying "WELL IT'S ALL HEARSAY" and they're mostly delusional, but... isn't a lot of what she said hearsay? Is the point that she has now opened the door for (for example) the Secret Service and others to testify when they may have otherwise not? is hearsay more accepted in these type of hearings?

Right, this chick isn't scared!! She's like a robot!
I'm not a conspiracy theorist by any means but yeah agree she is well supported by background forces to do this dirty work to bring down tfg.
Make no mistake, the Republican Party is a terrorist organization.
