I am the last man standing in my family. Vacation cancelled. I am super upset.
I am so sorry. I have said so many times on here how this virus has made it impossible for me to want to make any plans or look forward to anything at all, and this is why. I am incredibly sorry. 😩
Oh shit I’m sorry. Have you had Covid recently by chance? Maybe it’s picking up an old infection? Gah I hope it was a fluke and you aren’t really positive.
I have never had Covid. About 3 weeks ago I had a sneezy couple days but I had no congestion, sore throat, etc. it is certainly possible it’s picking up an old infection from then, but I have never had any symptoms, ever, in 2.5 years. I was with one of our former board members yesterday and I would feel terrible if I infected her! I literally had a physical yesterday just a couple hours after the test and did not have any swollen glands. I also had blood work done prior to the appointment and my WBC was perfect! I know asymptomatic exists but wouldn’t I have elevated WBC count if I had an infection?!?! This is totally bananas.
I have a rapid saliva test tomorrow.
People’s kind words really do mean a lot, so thank you, friends.
Oh no. Was it a PCR or rapid? I know you can test positive on PCRs doe a long time. I am sorry

Yesterday’s test was a PCR. Negative on home tests. Holding out hope for the saliva test tomorrow.
But since I now have or have had Covid, I’m going to have to get in touch with my cardiologist to see if he wants me to have a troponin test or an MRI to screen for damage. 😩 This is what I’ve been dreading since the beginning.

Well I hope you can still make your vacation. So sorry about the cardiologist. I hope everything is okay. Good luck

YOU GUYS MY SPIT TEST WAS NEGATIVE! MY SPIT TEST WAS NEGATIVE! 😁😁
I can’t stop shaking! How did this all happen? I must have had asymptomatic Covid previously. I don’t really believe in false positives, but I clearly do not have Covid right now. But I don’t have to care right now because I’m clear and the cardiologist can wait.
I had to get a Covid test to go on my vacation Monday. I tested positive. I am devastated. I haven’t had so much as a sniffle. Not a headache. Not a sneeze.
Noooo!!!! I’m so sorry. That just sucks. Hoping you somehow manage to test negative today

ETA: just saw your update. That is great news (and yes to the cardiologist but it can wait until you return!)

Anyone have oily unmanageable hair after Covid? I had Covid Dec. 2020 and lost hair a few months later. I had Covid last week and my hair is so gross. I washed it yesterday as normal. Today, it was like day 5. I had to wash it tonight. It feels like I have a ton of products in it. I typically have wavy to curly hair. It dried straight and I didn’t need to flat iron it.
Also- I had strep and an ear infection. I’m on antibiotics. I typically don’t have issues with antibiotics. I’m not sure if this is a combo of everything.

Eh rubytue the cruise jab can be at me or another poster on ML. I went on a cruise and got Covid. I have posted about being worried about going but ultimately decided to go. There was another poster who went the week before me.

Read your post and literally 30 seconds later Good morning America previewed a story coming up about Covid and hair loss. I’ll report back after the story airs.
eta: Hair loss effects 20% of women who have had Covid. Eat protein, take vitamins and stop using hair products and/or dying you hair. Will take 6-12 months to grow back. No mention of oily hair.
So, I’ve heard a lot of anecdotes along the lines of “everyone in our family who went to [event, eg wedding] got it except the person who had their second booster recently.” There seems to be little data on it, but… it was enough to motivate me to get my second booster. Keep in mind, my oncologist gave me evusheld, which is for severly immunocompromised people. So yeah, I would think I qualify. I went to a walk in clinic that ended up denying me because I didn’t have a letter from a doctor that specifically said “immunocompromised.” The letter I had, which only have things like “lymphoma” and “high risk.” Didn’t cut again. The CDC specifically says it’s self-attest and not documentation required.
The #1 way to motivate me is to tell me know. So I was kind of wishy washy, but leaning toward it being good. I am now bound and determined to get this before my vacation. 🤣 So, I have an appointment at Walgreens in 20 minutes.
Edit, Walgreens did not bat an eye. And I told the guy the whole story. They just had me sign something self-attesting. And it was done. I was babbling and apologizing for taking time out if his day, but I tried to go to a clinic where they weee just milling around. But noooooooo.
You are the first person I’ve known besides me who got evusheld. My oncologist arranged for me to get it in April. I’m “mildly” immunocompromised from an oral chemo pill that I’m taking, so she recommended evusheld instead of a second booster.
Any idea how long after evusheld I’d need another booster? I was assuming I’d wait until Fall when a new booster comes out but just curious if you’d seen anything in your research. And yes I can ask my onc but since I saw you mention it, just checking. Thanks!

Are you talking about a booster dose of evusheld or another covid vaccine booster? I was told evusheld lasts 6 months, but providers haven’t been given much info about follow up doses yet. If it’s covid booster I was told not to get it within 2 weeks of evusheld doses or my infusions, but to get the next ones when available.

My doctor has told me nothing. My new oncologist is a bit paternalist/old school and does really discuss things with me. I do kind of talk things through with my old oncologist, but he (rightly) stayed away from giving me medical advice. But he will talk things through with me. I also have a good friend that works in pharma as a lab tech, working in monoclonal antibodies. So, she and I will game stuff out, too.
I totally admit I’m out here on my own with this one. Everything I found said two weeks, like above. Also, that the booster wouldn’t interfere with it. I have this paranoia that I’m using up my fake antibodies every time I get anything Covid like. But, I’ve been assured by the sources above that I shouldn’t worry about that.
Evulsheld is supposed to be 6 months. But it’s just now hitting 6 months out there, sp I don’t know if they are redoing people or not.

Thanks. 😁 I have had evusheld, and I did talk about being tempted by a cruise. I’m not sure if I ever told anyone here my final decision on it. But… errr…. It’s happening. Like, right now. With a ton of mitigations, like no eating in public and we are N95ing everywhere. And, lots of handwringing with the two people I mentioned above (friend MD and friend in pharma). 😬 I judge me.
I'm assuming when the Omicron boosters come out, the olds will get to go first again, as well they should, and by the time they are available to everyone, it will be closer to 4 months anyway. And honestly, not feeling the needing to get in on the first day would be nice too, IMO.
I'm going on a big trip overseas in August, and will be engaging in some activities around others where I can't really mask, so I'm really wanting that second booster before I go.
In my experience, the elderly and the immunocompromised who are going ahead of everyone else in getting boosters and Evusheld are then taking trips to Florida and planning cruises. Including posters on this board.
Oh fuck off. I take medicine to keep me alive that also prevents me from having an immune response so I get first dibs on boosters and other treatments. That doesn't mean I shouldn't travel or live my life. You suck

Don't judge yourself!! We have to live our life!
I am getting evusheld next week, my doctor is having me get it because I have a trip to Italy planned... she is encouraging me to travel and will offer any prevention she can give me!

vmars, I'm so sorry about your vacation. NewOrleans, I'm glad things worked out for you.
We just got back from a week in FL, at Universal and Kennedy Space Center. I haven't been around that many people in years now, OMG. It felt very weird at times even though we were mostly outside. But the occasional stint in the indoor queues for 30-45 minutes felt like we were certainly bathing in covid stew.
We tested Saturday when we got back and all were negative. I had it like six weeks ago, so I'm hoping my immunity holds, but no one else in my household has had it so I feel like it's almost inevitable that somebody is going to pop a positive this week.
I live in NoVa and am definitely seeing the percentage of people wearing masks at the grocery store going up again.

I was so drunk one day I don’t remember going through Mexican customs and back on the boat. We did a cooking class with open bar. So have your drinks and be as safe as possible. Enjoy your vacation

I had the hair loss in 2020. I spoke with my hairstylist and she thinks it’s a combo of everything. Recent travel, hormones, illness, meds. Fingers crossed it clears up with minimal loss. Last time I had bald spots. 🥴

I had Covid in early 2020 and my hair fell out in May 2020 by the handful, leaving bald patches. The regrowth has been more wavy than my pre-COVID hair and a slightly different color so who the fek knows. I started doing scalp massages, hair growth oil, and babying what I had left and it's come around in thickness but I chopped off so much intermittently so it wouldn't look so ratty (at least 8"+ total). My vain ass Leo self is terrified of getting it again and losing what I've worked so hard to regain.
I've had a headache and felt off for 3 days now. I've tested twice and they're negative. I'm worried that I'm out there spreading covid even though I'm masking everywhere. Ugh.

It’s a sneaky variant. Keep testing. I tested 4 days in a row before getting a faint positive and then shit hit the fan 24 hours later.

My DH tested positive last night. He had a slightly sore throat at work on Tuesday that seemed to go away, then he felt run-down at work yesterday. He hasn't been sleeping well so assumed it was that. Then he woke up with a fever during the night and the line popped up within 20 seconds of testing.
He's working in a different state right now. We last saw him last weekend, but I seem okay so far. Question: he is supposed to fly home next Thursday, which would be day 10 exactly. He shouldn't come home, right? I'm somewhat confused on the rules.
