I guess we should also be asking how a president can just take those type of documents to his ramada inn hotel and that is just ok. Then negotiations have to happen to get them back. Then FBI has to go in. This is all fucking nuts

Yes - just like his transcript with Zelensky which he claimed were perfect. Or his taxes - you know, except they're under audit. I'd place bets that his attorneys will file to not agree to the release for whatever crazy ass reason they'll pull from a hat.

I’m guessing that’s all part of the plan. He says he’s fine with them releasing them, but his lawyers say not to. Then he “proves” to his followers that he has “nothing to hide”but his lawyers want to protect him from what he calls a witch hunt. Then they’ll try to find some technicality that they’ll say why DOJ is breaking protocol (which they’ll call “the law”) and abusing their power to try and make Trump look bad. Since his followers listen to nothing but Trump’s people and Fix, they’ll have no reason to believe it’s anything other than what they are told. He’s a skilled conman and master manipulator.
I missed the Garland press conference live, but found watching the entire thing really interesting. It was weird to watch and see that the whole thing really was that direct & intense, not just the few sound bites to support a story used in coverage later. www.smarthernews.com/quickquotes/20220812-garland-on-trump-raid
I doubt we will ever find out who the informant was. I kind of hope we don’t. I can’t imagine the horrible things that person would be exposed to at the hands of Trumpers.

My hope lies in the military. They're probably quickly ramping up their security.
Codes are so passee. It's not about codes as they change regularly (I assume). It's about more than that. These are deep dark secrets he wanted to or did sell. Mfucker!
I know my friends there will not share a damn thing, so I won't even ask, but, damn, they're probably working extreme overtime due to this asshole.
I pulled up the whistleblower report about Trump admin officials circumventing the law trying to transfer nuclear technology to the Saudis because I don’t think I paid much attention to it back then (probably because a million other things were happening in the news daily). If he did in fact have nuclear secrets, be interesting to see the response from senators like Rand Paul and Marco Rubio now since they were against this then.

i watched cnn for a few minutes and they had a commentator elaborate on the nuclear info that he had and what that info could be. she suggested it might be either info on enemy, ally, or our own capabilities/supplies/locations. the fact that the info might not even be about us but an enemy or an ally, and in the wrong hands would seriously jeopardize an ally and our standing on the word stage (again) because of him is maddening.
Is there a way he can get away with this by claiming that he declassified the documents? Even though he didn’t-he lies all the time anyway and his cult believes him.
According to legal Twitter, POTUS cannot single-handedly declassify nuclear docs. DOE has to sign off too.

I was watching MSNBC and they were saying that it doesn't even matter the classification. Having nuclear related documents that do not personally belong to you, but belong to the federal government could be considered espionage or treason.
Let's also not forget that he was ASKED to turn these over...it was known that he had materials, they asked nicely, they got/took some docs, and asked for more and Trump didn't turn them over.
If this motion is granted, who determines which parts of the property receipt are redacted? If the material is classified, how are they going to publish anything meaningful about it?
And is that receipt an inventory of everything taken or only the things that were both taken into FBI custody *and* listed on the warrant? In other words, will the property receipt include things they took because they found them during the search and think they're evidence of other crimes (assuming they collected anything of that nature)? I imagine it's a comprehensive inventory but would love one of our resident attorneys to confirm.
From WaPo:
"If made public, the warrant would probably reveal a general description of what material agents were seeking at Mar-a-Lago and what crimes they could be connected to. A list of the inventory that agents took from the property would also be released. Details could be limited, however, particularly if the material collected includes classified documents."
“The search was carried out as part of the government’s effort to account for documents that one person briefed on the matter said related to some of the most highly classified programs run by the United States. The person told The New York Times that investigators had been concerned about material from what the government calls “special access programs,” a designation that is typically reserved for extremely sensitive operations carried out by the United States abroad or for closely held technologies and capabilities.”

Exactly. WHY ARE THESE IN HIS HOUSE? And where were they in the White House that they were so easily included in the personal property that was moved to MAL? These are documents 2 levels about Top Secret, so it's like 5 people that can have access, but 45 is rolling out of the White House with them? And if they were mistakenly taken there (which, WTF?) he has had ample opportunity to return them. I am also concerned about who has accessed the documents just to review what is inside the boxes, because again, you cannot have some random low level staffer in there.
There are VERY stringent requirements for how classified documents should be stored (ie: locked safe inside a locked/access controlled room), and who can even be in the same room with them. For Special Access Programs the rules are even stricter (can be anywhere near a cell phone/camera/USB recording device, etc). To think that he just had stuff in boxes in a locked closet or whatever is absolutely appalling. Did his lawyers view these documents without clearance? Did his family members?
There is no valid reason he would need to have these documents.

Didn't Jared have a super high security clearance? Or maybe he tried but he couldn't get it, or it was rescinded. I have to check. Anyway, my point is that perhaps other family members with the same level of access brought them.
Trump is shadier than shady but Jared to me is the shadiest of all so I'm hoping he gets implicated somehow.

WSJ EXCLUSIVE: FBI agents removed 11 sets of classified documents from Trump’s home, some marked top secret and meant to be kept in special facilities, an inventory shows. It also says agents collected four sets of top secret documents, three sets of secret documents, and three sets of confidential documents. The list didn’t provide any more details about the substance of the documents.
(Likely TFG leaked it to WSJ (they are buddies) to try to get ahead of the news. As if this doesn't look bad for him, but then again he leaked the call with Zelensky which he kept describing as "the perfect call").
