The weather this weekend was gorgeous! We tried to spend as much time outside as possible to soak it all in because the weather is supposed to turn bad this week.
Kid had a BB game on Saturday and she learned how much she likes to actually guard the person she's supposed to be guarding - before she was very timid but then this girl tried to tell her that she couldn't guard her the way she was (when of course she could, she wasn't doing anything wrong) and that fired her up and she responded "Yes I can" and she did LOL. It was fun to see her stick up for herself! Her coach even praised her for it and made a point to tell H and I about their conversation about it.
H and I were cleaning up leaves yesterday and there are SO MANY of them. And the thought occurred to me that since we spent a ton of money on tree removal the past couple of years like 90% of the leaves weren't even from our trees and I got a little irrationally salty LOL
We leave for vacation on Saturday morning and I'm so ready for it! I mean I don't have actual stuff ready to go but I'm ready to go!
Bernadine - I actually have a brand new in the box one if you need it! We had to order an extra and I’ve been dragging my feet trying to return it. Not sure how much it would be to ship but I’d sell cheaper than the store!
Morning! I need to get some work done and then make a round of stores asking for donations. My DD’s fall festival is Thursday and I’m behind on collecting items.
Mondays are now my favorite day of the week while on maternity leave. I love my older daughter (3.5) but she is a lot. It makes the weekends incredibly long and tiring keeping up with her + newborn twins and not getting enough sleep. Mondays are so relaxing with her back in daycare!
We also had a busy weekend, which didn't help. Went to several Halloween events just to keep her occupied and get us out of the house since the weather was nice. I still can't decide if being busy is easier than being stuck in the house all weekend.

I'm trying to cook more tofu, which is already out of my comfort zone because so far it just never turns out very yummy (and then L, who is my main motivation for cooking it, rejects it, and I have to eat an entire block of meh tofu myself), so it is unhelpful to realize that I didn't buy extra firm tofu but actually extra firm *silken* which is apparently pretty much useless unless I want to just eat it with a spoon.
I am going with the theory that I had mono because I feel 99% better sickness-wise but keep just suddenly running into this wall of exhaustion. I'm not sure why the doctor who suggested it might be mono and sent me to test for common viruses didn't also have me tested for, ya know, mono, but whatever. I wasn't planning on playing any contact sports this week, so it doesn't really matter either way.
Every Monday I think to myself that I should have taken of or called out. I'm always so unmotivated. And every Monday I run a team call so I kind of need to be online.
I made a batch of chili yesterday for my lunches this week. For dinner last night I tried a new recipe for Spicy Sriracha Chicken and it was FANTASTIC. Next time I'll add broccoli or sugar snap peas. Definitely adding that one to the rotation! www.plainchicken.com/spicy-sriracha-chicken-noodles/
I'm going to try this. My son is a reforming picky eater. He loves the frozen ramen from Costco and the only dipping sauce he will ever use is the sriracha from Chickfila. What kind of sriracha sauce do you use? Are ramen noodles just the Maruchen noodles from the supermarket? Thank you, these probably seem like stupid questions. LOL
Not at all! I use the bottled sriracha sauce that Wegmans sells (not sure how that compares to the Chik-Fil-A sauce since I've never had that one), and yes, just the regular Maruchen ramen (you end up discarding the flavor packet).

Friday night was the fall fest at the younger kids' school. Saturday was DD's first away swim meet (torture, pure torture). We were there 4 hours to see her swim in 3 events. At least weather was nice and we snuck out and walked for an hour of it. Yesterday was cooking and relaxing.
Today I helped DS2's grade as they launched hot air balloons they made. 32 balloons each launched 3 times. I helped spot and track them down. I forgot to wear my new Fitbit, but I got my workout in for the day. So much walking and running.
DD is finally going on a field trip (1st one in 4 years) this week and they are only taking one chaperone per class. The teachers drew names and I didn't get picked. I don't actually enjoy field trips but I'm still bummed because it's just one of those parent experiences I'd always envisioned that I missed out on because of Covid. She's in 5th grade and parents generally don't go on field trips in MS here so this is probably the last opportunity. And I feel dumb for being bummed about not getting to do something I don't actually like doing anyway.

I'm glad the weekend is over. On Saturday night J and I went to a fun mixology fundraiser event for a local arts foundation w his former boss and his daughters (J grew up with them and the older of his girls is R's orthodontist). We were so glad that we have older kids (10, 13 vs 3, 18m, and 7m). There were 18 drinking stations and 3 food ones. We hit Nations post event .. so good Sunday was the service and celebration of life for one of Miss R's daycare besties. Super emotional event - R made an appearance in the video montage and that the 'party' some selfies of R and her besties were on the tables. It was such a beautiful service and beautiful party (the food stations were all of her favorite foods!) but R was disappointed that none of the other daycare families were there. There were 4 families that were super close from the daycare and we all hung out together - mom/daughter tea parties, kids' movie nights, pumpkin patch visits, holiday gift exchanges .. you get the drift. We were the ONLY ones who came to the service.
Today I am grateful for my therapy appointment. I need it.
A couple weeks ago I tipsy ordered a popover pan and the next day when I realized what I had done I was all ready to send it back when it arrived (better than dealing with H’s anger for buying something we didn’t need). It was delivered to a different address and so I called and got a refund. My neighbor who does not live here (inherited house that she’s trying to sell) came into town this weekend and brought over the package which had been delivered to her house. I called Amazon and they said to keep it. So yay for a free popover pan!
I got one of Alison Roman’s cookbooks and tried to make her preserved lemons recipe. I just took the lemons of of the cool dark place they had been sitting covered for 7 days and they are covered with mold

I totally feel you on this. I hated volunteering at the school/field trips prior to covid. Basically felt like I was signing up to get beat up on by kids for a few hours. And then I always got sick afterwards because children are vile.
But then covid and now we have a whackadoodle superintendent who locked down our schools as part of a weird new admin flex, so it’s nearly impossible to volunteer or enter the school for anything. Of course I promised my kid I would go to a party since it’s her last year in elementary.
All this stress for something I don’t even like! Argh! Why did I make that promise??
Ohhh my god, after concocting an elaborate ruse to get the cat out from under the bed…he just came out on his own and walked right into the carrier.
This is the most cat thing I’ve ever read.
No lie, this motherfucker had a straight up Looney Tunes box-stick-and-string setup to catch the cat, but it walked through the open patio door instead 😭

That sounds very similar to the two types of dragon noodles I make.
The first one just calls for eggs and lo mein noodles, but the sauce is basically the same, and I have always added chicken: www.budgetbytes.com/spicy-noodles/
The second one uses ground pork (you could totally use ground turkey or chicken) and garlic chili sauce (but I sub half chili sauce half sriracha because otherwise it's too spicy for me): www.budgetbytes.com/pork-peanut-dragon-noodles/
I love both of them. We always make steamed broccoli to go with the pork & peanut version.
If you get a chance to have the seasonal Ellenos Pumpkin Pie yogurt, do it. It's so good. Greek yogurt + pumpkin pie filling + a sort of ginger snap crumble to put on top. Mine is all gone and now I'm sad.
pandorica aw I hadn't seen you had your twins, congrats! I always see people asking on mom groups about keeping their oldest home while on maternity leave and I'm like oh God why would you ever do that to yourself?! Lol being able to send the older kid off to school and have some baby only time is the best.

I couldn’t have planned joeys birthday better if I’d, well, planned it! He’s a September baby, and the kids were in school when we came home. It was awesome. Still, too, i get lots of Joey time before I have to referee the two big jerkwads.
My neighbor's dogs have been out barking for HOURS!
I think someone is home, so I don't know WTF is going on.
Sounds like the start of a Dateline episode....just sayin.
This is their MO.
They have a son on the spectrum who plays video games all day. He wears big headphones and will let the dogs out and then forget about them. They aren't socialized, so even if I let my dog out to just pee, they bark and bark.
I think the grandmother is over today (based on cars in the driveway), so why she isn't calling them back in, I don't know.

Y'all. Traveling home yesterday was an anxiety trigger nightmare. I'm emetophobic and H woke up feeling nauseated and feverish and stayed in bed until, like, an hour before we had to leave. I have Zofran (see earlierm ention of emetophobia) so I gave him some and he made it through the flight ok. But a lady two rows up and across the aisle did NOT and I was reading so I didn't have my headphones in so I heard HER puke and nearly had a panic attack. And my stomach wasn't feeling 100% due to anxiety plus not eating anything all day except some vegetable patty things the hotel served for breakfast and I tried to get a snack at the airport, but stood in line for 30 minutes only to have the cash register break or something when I was 2nd in line and they announced my flight was boarding so I had to just put my stuff down and go. By the time I put myself to bed at 8pm I ended up waking up at 11pm feeling sick myself and then slept fitfully the rest of the night.
Oy. I'm ready to go to bed early and try again for a good night's sleep tonight.

We love these! I always use rice noodles but it’s delicious!

Thank you!! I saw a bunch of people asking the same question. While her bringing home daycare germs makes me nervous, I can't even imagine having her home full time right now 😅 she's much happier staying on schedule and I can actually take naps!

We turned to tofu in desperation when my son was a toddler who would eat nothing. Have you tried tofu burgers? My husband makes them and they are delicious! We still eat them because we all like them now. I brought a leftover one for lunch today.
