Ugh. I have never actually posted, but do follow a bunch of people and check it daily. I was hoping he wouldn't follow through and I wouldn't have to make a decision.
My personal account was just used to follow people and I would only check it once or twice a week. I haven't even signed in since I got my new phone so perhaps I will just keep it that way.
I also manage the Twitter for my organization. I don't see that one going away because we've put a lot of effort into upping our activity over the past year.

I think I’m going to delete. Twitter was never a great place for me and I think it is generally terrible and a tool of fascist influencers. It doesn’t matter that I’ve spent years cultivating a feed that suits my needs and interests. I still see right wing garbage daily. Their reporting system is terrible. I can’t tell you how many bots/people I’ve reported for actual hate speech, violent threats, etc., and always get the form e-mail of, “They did not violate community rules.”
Anyway, I’m not here for whatever faux middle-of-the-road free speech bullshit the Elon musk era is going to usher in, because it’s just going to be a fascist free-for-all.
With Meta also faltering, I’m looking forward to watching the social media world burn.
I deleted my account. I simply don’t have the stomach to see trump and others pop up regularly. I will have to figure out how to get late breaking news and pop culture insight (I followed a lot of culture critics) elsewhere.
I voted "not sure" but I can't imagine that I'll support the garbage that it is sure to become. I mostly use it to keep up on medical and science news, breakthroughs, studies, etc. so I'm not sure what I'll use now though.

If the orange guy comes back I will delete. I stopped using Twitter from about 2017 until after the election because even if I blocked him it felt like the entire site revolved around his antics anyway. No interest in dealing with that again.

I have an account, but never got into it at all. I couldn’t figure out how to use it or what the appeal was, oddly. I use other social media but that platform never did it for me and I haven’t logged on in a few years. I may go back on to delete my account just to make a statement.

I don’t post, but there are a number of activists I follow. I have found Twitter to be a great source of immediate information when the news is slow to share, and I appreciate that the activists I follow often have information on violations of civil liberties.
However, it has always been a shit show when it comes to reporting racist, homophobic, and other hate speech and that will obviously get worse.
I won’t delete it because if the shit hits the fan, I still think it could remain a valuable place for getting information quickly, but I won’t be resorting to using it regularly with Musk at the helm.
I am responsible for two different accounts for work, so I have to be there.
I don't post from my personal account and that won't change. Virtually all of my personal follows are Philadelphia sports or cute animals so don't really see that changing.
I'm not sure. I have an account but rarely go to it. I've never liked Twitter and how it works. It's not as intuitive/easy as other platforms, so I just have always kind of avoided it.
I'm curious to see what happens with it now, and I am very much willing and ready to delete my account if it really does become a shit-hole.
I only recently created an account (2021 I think?) to see what was going on locally. I've never actually posted anything. There's this one user who is great at digging up dirt on local politicians because she actually pays attention and puts the puzzle pieces together really well.
I think it will end up being a shadow of its former self once trolls and white supremacists start to feel more at home.
I mostly read and like on Twitter. I think that will taper off, but I will not delete my account.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
I won't end up deleting because my kids' school and activities use Twitter to provide updates on practice times, cancellations, and bus service. I've also found Twitter to be a great resource during natural disasters that I think is important to keep for safety purposes.
I'm staying for now at least. I have a private account that functions more like a group text with friends, so I don't see that experience changing too much. I also have a public account to follow figure skating and politics and where I've also made some good friends in the skating community I sing want to lose touch with. But I'll probably have to unfollow or mute some stuff on the political side.

I enjoy ranting on Twitter about political things. I don't post a ton of political stuff anywhere else. I'll probably see how things go. If it gets bad, I'll just set mine to private and delete the app. I have such mixed feelings already about Twitter. There's some good stuff, but also some absolutely horrible stuff. I have to remind myself to not read replies just like I avoid comment sections anywhere else.

These responses do not give me the sense that social media is anywhere close to burning. Look at how many people here say they can’t quit Twitter because the site is so entrenched in their lives or how their companies do business. Twitter could be a site with a giant WELCOME sign for white supremacists and people would STILL be like, yeah, but I can’t function without it.
And all these sites really care about is our presence. We, and our data, are the economic engine.
I also don’t know WTF Zuckerberg is doing. But lost in the bad news is that the number of daily active users on Facebook DID grow, albeit sluggishly. Instagram and WhatsApp are growing. And global expansion is a huge opportunity. The winners and losers may shift but I don’t see “social media” going anywhere anytime soon. If it’s not Twitter, it’ll be another upstart like TikTok, same song, different lyrics.

goldengirlz that someone trips over the singular cord keeping the internet running and doesn’t plug it back in, lol
Truly, I don’t know that there’s necessarily anything I want to see, as the cesspool is hard to avoid. I know social media is a lot of things to a lot of people. I saw a friend quoted a Tweet lamenting the loss of the little social spaces on the internet as they were all glommed up by larger companies. I do wonder what the internet would look like if the niche places came back. One of my favorite places to go is a local political news blog with regular commenters from my community and surrounding areas. Wholesome AF, even with disagreements.
I’m sorry, but it looks like I just want us all to interact with and know fewer people, lol.
For now, I’m still using. I want to want to delete it, but realistically, I know the likelihood of me quitting is slim to none. I mean, I’m still on FB and I shop Amazon. My account is mostly cancer advocacy anyway. The most trolls I see are generally anti-medicine/vax or “stevia cured cancer” (my latest one).
edit: I’ve been running around all morning and haven’t seen much. Reading some of you saying there is already a difference makes me think I wasn’t paying enough attention. But, I think I’ve tweeted 3 or 4 times today already 😬
