Twitter - will you use it?

I mostly read on Twitter and sometimes like posts. I will continue for now but I did make some lists with accounts that I follow. If you browse content through a list you don't get ads or suggested posts.

I deleted my accounts. It’s not worth it and Twitter was toxic before so it’s gotta be worse now

This article on the departments they cut is really something else:

He cut the human rights team. He cut the content moderation team. He cut the accessibility team (which designs products for people with disabilities). He cut the team working on machine learning ethics. None of this is shocking, of course, but he all but said Marginalized Groups Not Welcome.

To their credit, a number of companies are pulling their Twitter ad campaigns.

I tried to delete my account but it said that I had to deactivate for 30 days first and then, if I didn’t use it during the 30 days, my account would be deleted. WTF is up with that nonsense?

I tried to deactivate and it keeps telling me I have the wrong password even though I just signed in with the same password. So I changed my password, tried to deactivate again and it still says the password is wrong. I can’t help but feel like they are preventing people from leaving. I have never used twitter anyway, except for school closings because our county always posts there first on snow days.

I just deactivated my account and will try to avoid clicking on tweets embedded in other posts going forward so I don’t give it my traffic.

And he got fact-checked by his own platform when he did it. Granted, the bot quoted the Wall Street Journal and Daily Mail UK (both right-leaning), but fact-checked nonetheless. 

He's garbage, Twitter is about to be garbage (more so than it was already?), and it's all going to hell in a handbasket.

I have tried to deactivate twice and it just gives me an error message saying “Oops, something went wrong. Please try again later.”

I hope a bunch of random people start doing stuff like this when the subscription thing starts to show how absolutely ridiculous it is. Not that I want them to give him more money, but it definitely makes a point!

He has responded by saying any parody accounts will be banned without warning unless they clearly identify as parody. Free speech, indeed!

You can save your folks on Twitter to a list and view just them with no ads. I did that today, too, since many of the people I follow are still there.

If you follow activists like Imani Gandy and Mueller She Wrote, Walter Shaub is tooting their handles on Mastodon. Also, many of them are using their same handle there.

I was coming back here to mention this, and that Kathy Griffin was already banned. My question is, with this new system, how are you supposed to know who the real person is? I pay for the check and say I'm whoever, how are they supposed to know I'm not?

Plus like you said, his whole "reason" for buying Twitter was to stop the banning and let everyone have free speech. Seems someone is throwing a temper tantrum over being mocked. But apparently isn't banning people using horrible racist language (or so I've heard, thankfully this has NOT come across my feed so far).

My teen said kids are no longer using twitter and have asked their school to abandon their account. Twitter was on a downward spiral with the youth anyway. This is only causing them to leave sooner

I deactivated last night, once I realized I can still view my kids' school bus account without being logged in. They give real life updates for when the buses leave the school, so it's pretty essential with how unreliable the buses have been this year.

Earlier, I was saying I’d wait and see. I kind of was thinking I didn’t want to let them win. But here we are a week later and I’ve deleted my Twitter app and put a mastodon app in the same spot of my phone. Mastodon is reminding my of IRC, which started my internet social addiction in 1992. It’s all the interaction, but with people. And we aren’t monetized. 💗 I requested an archive of my tweets. And I think I’m about done.

Yup. There is this part of me that is like “wow… they are pointing out the fucked up shit it capitalism and all that”. But, it loses me when real people get hurt. And, as much as I dislike capitalism, there were major effects on real money. And, I am not a burn it down type.
