Interesting. I had a very mild case of covid until today (Day 9) when I am miserable with sinus congestion. I am not convinced that this is still part of covid though. I kind of wonder if it's something new or a complication of getting some fluid trapped somewhere and an infection brewing. Ha.
Definitely possible. Sinus infection after any URI is pretty common, no? My friend who is prone to sinus issues had severe sinus inflammation linger for a few weeks after she was past the Covid itself. Her ENT said she's been seeing a lot of that and gave her steroids.
Yep. My teeth are starting to hurt so I think maybe sinus infection. Normally I am very wait and see, but with xmas coming I'm wondering if I should go get a zpack. Ugh. While I decide, I'm pushing tons of fluid, municex, ibuprofen and the neti pot. Maybe I can still rinse this gunk away.
At the very beginning of the pandemic something came out that said that elderberry actually caused worse cases of covid. I wonder if that still holds true. Anyone want to do that research for me? Lol!

After 14+ days of still being uncomfortably nasally and phlegmy despite all the OTC meds, I went to my doc and she diagnosed me with sinusitis that was spurred by the covid. At the time (in June), so said she noted an increase in people visiting wondering why they hadn't shaken that particular symptom of covid even after two weeks. Might be an Omicron thing, but I will say I'm glad I went to the doc quickly because I was prescribed amoxicillin and a stronger nasal spray which both cleared me up very quickly after I started taking them.
Found it! "During the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been interest in elderberry supplements to treat or prevent illness, but also concern that elderberry might overstimulate the immune system and increase the risk of ‘cytokine storm’."
Synopsis: Elderberry is woo, and no one has found any evidence that elderberry helps or hurts anything related to anything. So keep taking it if you like the taste, but it's more than likely doing bupkis.

Ok well reading these recent posts I am not alone. I am feeling a lot better (tested positive last Tues) but cannot shake my head and sinus congestion. I’ve had many sinus infections in my life and this doesn’t feel as bad as that (no pain just lots of congestion, plugged ears, I can feel fluid up in there). It also affects my smell/taste. I totally lost them last Wed but I do have them mostly back when My congestion isn’t as bad (during the day). Later at night and first thing in the morning, I lose them again when my congestion is way worse.
I’ve been doing Sudafed since Thurs plus Flonase once a day and then saline spray regularly. Also doing Advil to maybe help with inflammation? But I don’t want to take the Sudafed past tomorrow to not get rebound congestion. Ugh this sucks.

I’m starting Augmentin for my sinuses. Normally I’d try to tough it out with a Neti pot but with Xmas so close I just need it gone and I’m pretty sure it’s an infection. My teeth hurt.

New bivalent COVID booster shots are more effective at reducing risk of hospitalization than boosters of the original vaccines, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported in two new studies Friday.

China is now facing what is likely the world's largest COVID surge of the pandemic. China's public health officials say that possibly 800 million people could be infected with the coronavirus over the next few months. And several models predict that a half million people could die, possibly more.

In addition to how horrible the scale of human suffering will be, the likelihood that this will produce more covid mutations is giving me huge anxiety. Plus other supply chain impacts. This is just bad times.

Low uptake of the vax plus a not so great vax at that is going to really, really harm this population. On a personal side, I'm not very excited about how this is going to impact our Chinese student population who are already some of the most stressed out and depressed students we have (and it's a LARGE population).
Covid is growing very quickly in the UK, especially in London, so I think I'm going to go back to working in a mask this winter when I do in-person appointments (and may ask others to wear one too, though they won't be required to do so unless things change in the uni). I have to find better masks for my glasses because the ones I currently have are not good.
🤬🤬🤬 on the subject of people who’ve never had it. One of my friends ex had it twice, her bf had it twice, her coworker had it. She kept testing negative. Until this morning. Guess who sat next to her at dinner last night.
edit: so I’m like totally mathing this out. Presymptomatic spread isn’t as much a thing in vaccinated (and she is). But, she said symptoms started about 90 minutes after I left her house. Which feels close enough. You’d think I’d have been paying enough attention to think this through. But, ugh, nope. That said, I had invited a couple friends over for cards tonight, and I did cancel that.

Eep, fingers crossed for you! May want to try gargling salt water or using saline nasal irrigation to try to wash away any viral particles that could be trying to take hold? There's some evidence that it doesn't hurt, and could help.
I booked DD2 to get her updated Covid booster today. She’s fever free and has been since Tuesday, it she had the flu last week and is still on abx for an ear infection. Google says it’s ok to get the shot still, but would you reschedule? I’m kind of anxious for her to get it since she got the primary series like 5 months ago. We have no plans for Xmas and I’m sick so we will just be home anyway, good time from a side effect standpoint. Hopefully she won’t have too many. 🤞
seeyalater52 , I feel like you are the board expert. Would you reschedule?

I’d get it today. The antibiotics shouldn’t make a difference and honestly strike while the iron is hot if she doesn’t have any other symptoms of illness since this year especially it’ll be a miracle to stay healthy for too much longer. For what it’s worth, I’ve seen the vast majority of bivalent booster reports for this age group (including my own kid) report no side effects or just a sore arm so fingers crossed it isn’t anything that interferes with your holiday.

Thx, that’s what I was thinking too! She’s been sick practically every other week since Oct so I figured I better get it while she’s in between illnesses. Plus hopefully before Covid starts making the rounds. Thx for the confirmation of my instinct!

Good luck! If I’m remembering where you live covid cases are also spiking (wastewater) so definitely good timing to get it in her system while you’re going to be home for a bit.

Welp, day 4 post exposure, and still negative and feeling the same. And still negative. Though I realize the guidance is to test on day 5, I’ve been testing every day. Maybe twice some days 🤣. But I guess that also means I have another day to worry.

DD2 is officially boosted! And you were right, no side effects! I was hoping she’d be tired and take a nap (since I’m sick) but no such luck, she was her normal hyper self and is totally fine today. 🎉

Quoting myself, because it’s now day 6 and still all negative asymptomatic tests.
I am having a bit of GI issues. I keep thinking that’s not a Covid thing in adults anymore, right? But I have a friend who as a Covid panic with every little GI issue. Which makes me wonder if is still a thing. But the, I remember this is the person who told me she doesn’t like wearing anything on her face during flu seasons and tried to replace her Prozac with saffron pills. So, maybe not…. (Love her dearly, she is fully vaccinated, but is very woo, yet vaccines, yet essential oils, yet goes to the doctor for everything)

This is what I think helped me. H and I got our bivalent boosters in mid-September and I had COVID (first time) at the beginning of December. My case was *very* mild and my mom who got COVID in June (before bivalent boosters) had a much rougher go. Obviously she's elderly and I'm not, but I have asthma and longstanding lung issues, so I always thought I'd be hospital bound.

GI symptoms can be present with covid and I think upticked with omicron coming on the scene last year compared to prior variants. But it is a less common symptom overall so combined with negative rapids I wouldn't assume covid even with the known exposure.
seeyalater52, thank you! Might maybe do one more rapid tomorrow. But, it’s kind of hitting the point where it feels wasteful. But, my usps ones should be here tomorrow. So at least that’s 4 more.
My DD2, 5 years old, went to ER today because she would not stop puking and only peed once in 24 hours. They did test her for Covid (was kinda surprised since we are visiting family and are in FL), and thankfully she was negative. I had the same awful symptoms (merry freakin Christmas), but didn’t test since she was negative and I assume I got this from her coughing directly in my face/puking on me.
DH lost his voice yesterday, and last night went completely downhill. I forced him to go to the doc today to be tested - negative everything (covid/flu/strep). They gave him steroids and antibiotics, so I'm glad I made him go even if he was unhappy with me. I wanted him tested in case we needed to isolate because of flu/covid.
