Peds medical supplies too. It’s really scary given the level of overwhelm in children’s hospitals and pediatric providers right now, and while RSV may have peaked some places already (unclear) flu and covid are still rising quickly and expected to keep going up.
Our local hospital system tracks flu, RSV, and Covid. Flu and RSV have peaked here (Houston) so hopefully other places will see the same soon. I believe our flu wave started first. The bad news is Covid numbers are rising rapidly. Yay.
It’s respiratory whack a mole right now.
There are definitely regions where RSV (and even flu, although that is less clear in most data) has possibly peaked but a lot of epidemiologists are modeling a second, higher, rebound peak toward the end of this month with winter holiday gatherings. Similarly, we haven’t yet seen flu hospitalization peaks a bunch of places because those numbers lag and again they are likely to continue to rise or plateau over the next 8 weeks or so.
It’s all a mess either way. I am hoping these are true peaks for both RSV and flu and will come back down and stay down but that is unlikely for covid, especially with the new variants driving the surge in cases. I know I’m not alone in my utter exhaustion at the respiratory whack a mole (lolsob thank you for coining that I’m totally going to use it.)
I’m sick with some cold crap that is neither Covid nor the flu. My teen brought a bad cold home from his dad’s after Thanksgiving and I think that’s where I got it. Hoping the kids stay healthy one more week so we can get to Winter Break. We don’t have any big plans over their break, so if they got sick that would be the time.
My baby is on her 7th virus in 9 weeks. I have been out of work so much.
We both got the stomach bug Saturday night. Were done Sunday. Stayed home all day yesterday. She ate, drank, all normal. My partner came home last night with it.
I took her to daycare today and they called me this afternoon saying she threw up again. And she did when I got there to pick her up too.
There is no way she got it a second time already? Right? I don’t want that to be possible

I would think her stomach is still settling from the first bug. It can take a while to rebalance your system once you have a bug.

That is my hope. I do not want it again.
I’m just taking the rest of the week off with her. I’m running out of sick time. My kid being sick so much is so stressful. But now I’m close to my kid being sick AND not being paid.

I agree with this. My DS will often have a last hurrah of sorts and throw up one more time after a few days of me thinking he's done. He had a stomach bug a couple Fridays ago, was fine by Saturday morning, and threw up again Monday evening. I think he probably just overdid it with school lunch or maybe he shouldn't have had milk so soon.
I ended up up testing positive yesterday morning, with very mild scratchy throat and congestion. #2 is still running around like the honey badger she is, husband is back to normal (for him) aside from taste being off, and #1 is still feeling fine and is negative on daily tests so he is going to school.
Almost 3 years and 3 other household exposures courtesy of my husband, and the 3 year old getting it is what got me. I just have to shake my head at this point.
The hits keep coming. I have Flu A and tonsillitis. I went to the doctor because I'm achy and my throat was a little scratchy. If I caught DS's strep I wanted to jump on it early. Nope, just totally different things to ruin our household with now.
DS2 was just sent home from daycare with a fever. So far his covid tests are all negative so either it's too early or he has something else. Poor little guy!
Also--the minute I got DS2 home I tested him. Primarily because if it's COVID I want the quarantine to start ASAP. My H called me a hypochondriac for testing him. Bruh---you are patient zero. I am taking care of everyone while also having some symptoms myself and trying to keep the kids in school as long as possible while also not being an asshole and trying to follow the CDC rules. Sit down.
Fall has been so terrible for us! I saw an article in WaPo this morning that describes what’s it’s been like, that normally you think you have some reprieve after an illness, but so many are just catching something else.
For us, it’s more my older kiddo (11), when we worry more about the younger, who was very premature. He’s had a few separate illnesses with fever that kept him out of school, and again this week, he finally seemed to be better on Tuesday and returned to school, only to spike a fever again. It’s endless.
Love of my life baby boy born 11/11. One and done not by choice; 3 years of TTC yielded 4 MMC and 2 CPs, through 4 IUIs and 2 IVFs. Focusing on making the world a better place instead...and running.

I suspect DD2 has pneumonia again. Or never went away. She was diagnosed with it late October. Was on 10 days antibiotics. Then was fine. 3 weeks later it resurfaced. 5 days of z pack. She was fine. Last night she was having a deep cough and raspy breathing. We are going to the doctors tomorrow. I am so frustrated.
DD1 came home from school this AM for throwing up. She has an issue where when she gets really upset or anxious, she has cyclical vomiting. It usually lasts a few hours and then she’s fine. She woke up this morning really upset from a bad dream, so I’m pretty sure that’s what this is. No other symptoms and she’s eating fine now. It’s sucks though since she threw up at school she’s out tomorrow too and it is one of the few days that H has to go to the office for work. 😩 It’s so annoying, he rarely goes in but the last 3x a kid has been sick it’s coincided with office days. Murphy’s law but it is so unfair!
Hi, my 13 year old has something very similar. She throws up when she’s stressed, overtired, etc. it started when she was 8. Doctors haven’t given us any real answers, have you gotten her a diagnosis? I was going to send you a private message but figured someone else might be familiar with this and be helpful.

No we haven’t really seen a Dr for it since it isn’t very frequent. I posted about it on MMM and a poster mentioned something called cyclical vomiting syndrome which is what it sounds like. At this point we just kind of deal with it but I’m hoping she will outgrow it. 🤞

My younger sister did that when she was a kid. She went to see a therapist. My mom also bought a puppet and had the puppet talk to her in the morning before she went off to school. The puppet talked to her about the stuff that she was anxious about. My mom also got her involved in several activities (tennis, musical theater) that got her around kids her own age so that it would take my sister's mind off of school.
My sister improved as she got older. She went off to live in the dorm at college. She is 23 years old now, and she graduated with her bachelors degree from college about a year ago.

How are we handling playdates and other get togethers with sick kids?
DS2 (9) is supposed to have a friend over today--a playdate he's been waiting a VERY long time to do and is so excited about. DS3 (4) has a gross cold--very runny nose, a bit of coughing and congestion, sneezing, etc. He doesn't actually feel bad, but his nose is like a faucet. I've covid tested him a bunch, and all negative. I was just going to let the mom know, so she can decide. Is that what you would do? I mean, DS3 is in daycare and if I wait for him not to have this daycare crud, it could be spring, LOL.

I replied, then deleted because I misread.
I’d text and say I think we should cancel. If she’s really breezy about stuff, she can say, “Eh, we know there are germs everywhere right now. We’re OK with the risk of what sounds like a common cold.” But if she’s even slightly uncomfortable, it doesn’t put her in the potentially uncomfortable position of making that decision.

I would do what you propose. Everyone has a different tolerance level at this point. You could offer to keep the 4 year old away from them (I mean, would they even be around them?) if possible. But say we have a daycare cold, covid negative, totally fine if you don’t want the germs. We can always reschedule. Etc

Ending yet another weekend with the tried and true pandemic game of “is this covid or is it one of the 100 other snotty respiratory viruses or colds going around?”
Nose is running like a faucet since Thursday, negative rapid covid tests every day, my wife is out of sick days and I’m crushed at work this week.

This. I’d want to know. And honestly, I’d probably cancel. My kids have missed so much school already this year, if I can avoid them being sick I would.
I posted this on MMM, but I’ll ask here too. DD1 went to a birthday party yesterday. It was a movie party at their house, so we were there for 3 hours watching a movie in a big living room. Right after cake, a kid started throwing up. 😖 Kids had a lot of popcorn, candy and cake, but the kid threw up several times in a row. I hightailed it out of there asap. I don’t think DD1 was sitting near him or shared food or anything… how likely is it we’re going to get it? Ugh we’ve had 2 bouts of vomiting in our house the last 4 weeks I will lose my shit if we get it again. 😭

Same. I’d cancel because my tolerance 2 weeks before Xmas is low. It’s very important to be at Xmas with my 93 year old grandmother. December 26th I’d be all “no worries we’d still love to come” and I’d pop a few elderberry gummies. LOL
noodleoo probably unlikely but I’d be chugging grape juice and wine as a precaution lol
Well this is only kids related because they’re the ones who gave it to me, After successfully dodging all kinds of shit all winter long from my students and my own kids, I finally got the stomach bug. It’s been so long since I’ve had one I totally forgot how awful they are. And this particular version came with a headache that Tylenol isn’t touching- which I’m extra pissed bout because I had to work really, really hard to keep the Tylenol down! Lol.
I really feel for parents this year, it seems like if your kid is predisposed to picking shit up you’ve been through the wringer for months. I’ve never had so many students with this many absences this early in the year. Any time I have to let a parent know that there kid fell asleep at the desk (unusual), was complaining of sore throat, was in and out of the bathroom all day- i can just see their whole body sag.
FUCK. DD1 is sick, not with stomach flu (knock on wood) but fever/cough (Covid negative so far). She missed 2 days of school last week, let’s see how many this week. H and I took tomorrow off to have one day to do something fun with no kids (it’s our dating anniversary, 25 years so kind of a big deal to us). That’s ruined. We also have a babysitter and tickets to a show Wed night (we haven’t gone out to a show in maybe 5 years? I won the ticket at a work raffle). What are the chances she’s better by then? I’m so fucking exhausted.
This WaPo article sums it up pretty well (gift link).
Pretty sure DS(6) brought home the flu from school last Friday. He has/has had all the symptoms including a 104 fever. This morning H woke up feeling very sick. He's been asleep 95% of the day. I'm so tired, have a headache and snurfy nose. It's not looking good for me either.
Holy shit, I was not aware that Children’s liquid Tylenol and ibuprofen are completely out everywhere. I stocked up in Oct (thanks for these threads) but I’m getting low (we’re on illness number 4, maybe 5?) and DD1 needs it. H went to 5 stores today before he found some hidden in the travel section at the grocery store. He sent me pics of empty shelves from CVS, Target, Wegmans and Walgreens. I tried to find it in store through the Target app and every where is out of stock, I couldn’t even order it for shipping! Amazon sells it but estimated delivery date is mid January. How did I have no idea about this? I knew about the antibiotic shortage but this is seriously shocking to me… especially given how awful DD1 looked with her 102.5 fever at bedtime.
What is happening? First baby formula, now kids medicines? Why does no one care about this?

The other day I heard a doctor on tiktok suggest looking for Tylenol at less obvious places, like gas stations that have little convenience stores.

No one cares and grown ass adults still won’t even put on a mask to try to slow the onslaught of illnesses hitting kids and overwhelming pediatricians and children’s hospitals. It is scary and sad and I’m tired and can’t believe how little attention this is getting.

DD was diagnosed with flu yesterday. Fever in clinic was 102.5°. She got a script for Tamiflu which we were thankfully able to fill right away. She started it last night, and already this morning her fever was better (not gone, but better). Started out as a tickle in her throat that grew into a cough over the course of a day, then the fever came. She is super diligent with her mask, but when others around her at school aren't, I'm not surprised she still got it.

I find myself rationing our Tylenol during DS's teething (2nd molars are no joke!). I'm worried about finding it in stock if he gets a fever later this cold/flu season. This is fucked up all around.
