Our luck ran out and we finally are dealing with...something. DD2 woke up with a bad cough this morning so she's home while I'm trying to work. Her temp has crept up to 99.5. Covid negative so far. We traveled over the weekend via plane so I can't say I'm surprised, but I suppose she could have caught something at school on Friday or anywhere else throughout the weekend for that matter. Hopefully it's a brief thing.

Our 9 year old has covid. He was fine all day Saturday, woke up vomiting in the middle of the night, then I heard him sneezing and sniffling Sunday morning, so we tested him and it was positive.
My oldest is so far testing negative and I really hope they stay that way. They had a concert yesterday, have a gig tonight for the professional jazz band they play in, have their big end of semester holiday concert at school on Thursday, and our state regional band audition is Saturday. They’ve been working on their audition solo for this audition for an hour or more a day since summer and there are no make up auditions, so if they’re sick Saturday they don’t get to audition this year (the directors who are audition judges decide before leaving that day who is ranked where and gets in/doesn’t).
Unfortunately we can’t realistically isolate my 9 year old as he’s only 9 and super social, so we just have to hope that the older kid’s vaccines hold up. We’ll be testing every 36 hours all week to ensure that if they get it we know and they don’t go to performances since masking is impossible (clarinet, so they have to blow through their instrument, we have an instrument mask but I don’t think those are particularly useful).
DD1 came home from school this AM for throwing up. She has an issue where when she gets really upset or anxious, she has cyclical vomiting. It usually lasts a few hours and then she’s fine. She woke up this morning really upset from a bad dream, so I’m pretty sure that’s what this is. No other symptoms and she’s eating fine now. It’s sucks though since she threw up at school she’s out tomorrow too and it is one of the few days that H has to go to the office for work. 😩 It’s so annoying, he rarely goes in but the last 3x a kid has been sick it’s coincided with office days. Murphy’s law but it is so unfair!
After escaping COVID for almost three years, I tested positive last week. H and DD are both still negative. It's been five days since I was around DD and her test this morning was negative, so H sent her to school with a mask. It still feels weird to think it's ok but she has missed so many days of school already because of colds that I fear she'll get behind.
I'll be honest, though, these last five days have felt like a little vacation where I can sit in bed and do absolutely nothing except read and whatever the hell else I want.

We cannot catch a break. Since mid October DS has had covid, RSV, then strep last week. Today he woke up with a head to toe rash. He finished antibiotics on Saturday so it could be a delayed reaction to the meds or a post-strep rash. We’ve been the doctor more in the last week than we often are in a whole year.
Our schools have a 30-40% absentee rate everyday. We aren’t getting subs to fill support positions, h’s work is short staffed. Everyday we play “who is going to stay home with the kid and screw over their coworkers.” I cried on my way to work today.
heygrey, I am so sorry. That is a lot to deal with.
S came home on friday from school acting out of it and was hot. Fever was 103. Went up to 104 over night. Tested negative for Covid, so I brought him to urgent care for a flu test and it was positive. He was a mess all day Saturday and by Saturday night he was fine. Fever free all day yesterday, no meds needed, his active normal self. Today his cough worsened and I am not paranoid that he has pneumonia.

I’m so sorry. It could be a regular post viral rash but I’ve also seen many many reports from parents of kids with post-covid rashes a month or more out from their infection. Thankfully it usually seems to be pretty harmless aside from being uncomfortable and inconvenient. I hope that’s all it is. Your poor kid. It is a jungle out there.

I'm sorry to everyone dealing with repeat sickness. DS2 (he's 6) had a mild sniffle for the 3 weeks leading up to Thanksgiving. Then on the Friday after he started complaining of an earache. I took him to urgent care and they said a "slightly red ear and some fluid". We were flying on Saturday to Mexico and our pediatrician said it was fine to fly. We gave him amoxicillan all week and he's totally fine now, and was in Mexico too.
Apparently it was a good week for us to be gone and out of school. Sickness was going through the school like crazy after Thanksgiving. Hoping we have missed a lot of it!
seeyalater52, I didn’t even consider that it could be covid related. He tested positive Oct 17th, so it’s only been seven weeks.
H took him to the doctor this morning. As long as his breathing is okay and there is no fever he’s not overly concerned. Benadryl if he needs it, cool bath if he’ll tolerate it. H is home with him and said he was happy playing video games and isn’t actively itching.
Little kid (4) had covid in august. some random 2 day virus in sept. Presumed RSV with confirmed pneumona in october. Presumed flu in November. And now has a fever and we are guessing a UTI based off her other symptoms. Inital test at the doc was negative but were assuming the culture will come back positive and are atarting ABX anyway. I can not catch a break here. I have had to move every allergest apointment shes had since August because she needs to be fever free for at least 5 days before her apointments.
My mom got a post-viral rash. They gave her steroids for it which I don't recommend because that wiped out her immune system and she contracted an infection.
Still status quo here. #2 is running around like a sugared up honey badger with an intermittent runny nose that's identical to every other cold she's had in the last year and a half, and my husband's symptoms are slowly improving (head cold like-congestion, sneezing, etc). Kid #1 and I both still feel fine and tested negative this morning so he is masked up and at school, and if I test negative again tomorrow I'll head back to work (where we mask anyway because I work for a hospital). Everyone except kid #2 is masking as much as possible in the house, #2 masks when she feels like it but she's 3 so fighting it is futile.
Hate to tell you, but Lysol and hand sanitizer aren't always super effective against the pathogens that cause stomach bugs. You're better off washing your hands thoroughly with soap and water and cleaning surfaces with bleach or hydrogen peroxide.

I second this. DH had a post covid rash that just did not go away for like 2-3 months. Totally harmless but annoying nonetheless.
We haven't been hit that hard with respiratory stuff this year but have had 8 million stomach viruses. Like more than my kids have had in their entire life..poor ds1 had one two weeks ago and just had another this wkend! I feel so bad for them.

We are all healthy(ish, my son has been complaining of sore throat in the mornings but tested negative) finally, but my anxiety dream last night centered around the kids getting sick again so that tells you where my head is at.
I'm sorry to all who are actually sick or juggling sick kids right now. It's exhausting.
Fuck it all. I’m sick today. I could feel it coming on Sunday and fought with all the meds and remedies I could try, but it wasn’t enough. I’m hoping one solid day of sleeping will help??? We have things scheduled at school end of this week and next that I need to be there for.
DS is still bright red from his rash, but is otherwise fine. He’s loving all the extra screen time lately because I just cannot parent right now.
The local news this morning was talking about how there's a shortage of kids meds, both over the counter and prescription. They specifically mentioned amoxycillin.

Peds medical supplies too. It’s really scary given the level of overwhelm in children’s hospitals and pediatric providers right now, and while RSV may have peaked some places already (unclear) flu and covid are still rising quickly and expected to keep going up.

DS tested positive for Flu A. Our whole household is sick with the same symptons now, so pretty sure we all have it. First illness this school year, but it's a doozy. We all got our flu vaccines but I feel awful. DS had really high fevers for over 3 days, he's very difficult about taking ANY medication. Had to go to multiple stores to find grape flavored Tylenol, to mix with grape popsicle pieces. Our local CVS was pretty much out of all over the counter kids meds.

Another "how covid spreads doesn't make sense" anecdote....
I am out of the quarantine window, and am feeling 100% except for elevated heart rate when I workout, so a sign I need to take it easy still I guess. I don't know where I contracted it, but was around extended family on Thanksgiving. However, no one else (that I know if) was sick or has gotten sick except for me. Could have also been from being in the office. The good news is H and the kids have not caught it from me. Once I tested positive, I isolated as best I could from them, and wore a KN95 anytime I wasn't alone in a room.

MIL has spent her recent days tracking down kids' Tylenol to buy for her grandkids when she saw the news reporting the shortages (four out of her five kids have kids), so I'm thankful I have a bottle at home since DD2 was sick yesterday. But appeared totally fine this morning, WTF.
breezy8407, that was me in June. I can only assume I caught covid at DD1's travel hockey tournament. No one else in my family caught it from me (despite me not isolating) and not a single member of DD1's team or their families that we spent all weekend with got covid. I wasn't alone at all during that weekend. Covid is weird.

Our local hospital system tracks flu, RSV, and Covid. Flu and RSV have peaked here (Houston) so hopefully other places will see the same soon. I believe our flu wave started first. The bad news is Covid numbers are rising rapidly. Yay.

Yup. DS was given amoxicillin in capsules because the pharmacy we use was out of liquid until “probably February”. We were told to open them and mix the powder with applesauce. It worked fine for us, but I can definitely imagine scenarios where it would be difficult to get a child to consume their medication properly.

DS1 (12) and DS2 (9) both have Covid; the secretary at the middle school said kids have been dropping like flies, and DS1's basketball coach said we were the 2nd family today to let him know a player had Covid. When I stopped by DS2's elementary to get some work, the secretary said her son had a terrible headache and was home today; he's in the same grade as DS1, so I told her she better test since that was one of DS1's first symptoms.
I'm sure I'll be next, but I hope DS3 (3) and DH are spared.
