As he’s sworn-in as a lawmaker Tuesday, Representative-elect George Santos (R-NY) will have the attention of international authorities: Brazilian law enforcement has been searching for the incoming congressman for years with an embezzlement charge. They intend to revive the case after he’s sworn-in with a formal request to the DOJ, the New York Times reported.

The case reportedly stems from 2008 when Santos was a 19-year-old living in Rio de Janeiro with his mother Fatima Devolder, then a home health aide. At the time, he allegedly found two checks that belonged to 82-year-old Délio da Câmara da Costa Alemão, a client of his mother’s, in her purse, and used them at a clothing store in nearby Niteroi.

I don’t have WP, so I couldn’t read that exact article, but what I read suggested that it might be a “stepping back for now” rather than actually stepping down. I’m sure he knows he’s in really hot water, but he’s still so full of himself that he believes with time, he will wiggle his way out of this.

That's what I thought when MTG was stripped of her assignments. Instead she spent that time trolling and building her "brand" 

I don't know what Santos's endgame is or how fast he thinks it's going to blow over, but I hope he's out soon and I hope we get the SANTOS Act out of it.

On one hand, can't feel too sorry that some puppy mills got frauded (the WP article painting them as simply 'farmer' is...a choice). 

On the other hand, the fact that they held "adoption" events for his fake charity, tried to get people to pay him the money directly and then CHANGED THE CHECKS after the fact, is just despicable. 

Someone needs to do a running list of all the times Santos claims he got mugged/stolen from because we have puppy theft and his rent checks got stolen.

I wonder when the last time he wrote a legit check was.

What makes me mad is he is going to get forever benefits paid for by us for being a US representative. It doesn't seem like he's going to be swiftly kicked out despite being a despicable lying liar.
