The house we bought came with an older washer and dryer. We knew they wouldn't last much longer. The washer leaked a few times, H thought he fixed it. Now it's leaking again and making weird noises.
I started looking at washers (and dryers, since both appliances were purchased together originally, and we may as well replace them both now). I am completely overwhelmed. I'm glad I looked because I have no idea if our dryer is gas or electric.

I need an adult.
Does this feeling every go away? On a near daily basis I look around for the adult that is supposed to make the decisions and be in charge, then realize it's me.
We had to buy a washing machine in May and it was an emergency... it died when dog towels were in it. I had always intended to replace it with a Speed Queen but they are only sold in sets near me and were over a month out for delivery. That was a deal breaker for us. I went to Best Buy and only looked at one's that could be delivered and installed that week.
Basically, you need to decide if you want: - top loader with agitator - top loader withOUT an agitator (the thing in the middle) - front loader
I knew I didn't want a front loader. I decided a top loader with agitator was best for us; they clean well and you have to arrange your clothes in a donut shape in the one without an agitator.
I also wanted one with a large capacity but not so large that I couldn't reach the bottom of the drum without feeling like I was climbing in it. I eliminated any that I couldn't reach the bottom while standing flat on the ground.
I wanted minimal extra features... I knew I wouldn't use them. I did want: ability to do a deep water wash, normal/heavy duty/delicate cycles, quick cycle option. Deep water wash is the only one that some don't have from what I saw.
We ended up with this one and I'm completely happy with it. It does have a water faucet feature which is a little gimmicky but I do use it. We don't have a utility sink in the laundry room so it is handy if I want to wet something before pretreating it.
I got to play adult tonight. I was at dinner with my two best friends, and we were talking about the cold snap coming. Two of us started talking about how we needed to turn off our hose bibs. The third, recently divorced but not sure if that was the reason, was like βwhat are you talking about? Is this a thing I need to do?β I went back to her house after dinner to help her find where the shut off valve is. We failed at getting it shut off, so she is going to call a neighbor tomorrow. But, knows what to do now. Iβm thinking I should dig up a book I have about general house maintenance and sent it to her.
But, I fail at being a gracious adult about things. I brought them both gift bags for Christmas gifts (we donβt do gifts too much, but since we were doing dinner 5 days before Christmas p, it seemed like the right thing to do). I had to repeat to myself over and over to say βyour welcomeβ and not βit was nothing. Both are just bags of random, generic female gifts that I have stacked in my closet for when I need a surprise gift.β I guess becauseβ¦ wellβ¦ they were. Each got a candle, lotion, a cashmere scarf that I got from a Christmas market 3 for $20 several years ago, and a penzys gift card from BFβ. A nice but, Ruby, your welcome is the right thing to say, not downplay and make it obvious I wasnβt really thinking ahead. Sometimes, I suck at the people skills of adulting. Edit: I think both were more surprised that *I* actually brought Christmas gifts. Gifts are not much love lanaguage.

Omg yes. I always feel like, is everyone else kind of making it up as they go along through life or is it just me?
Our credit card number was stolen. I definitely need an adult. I really don't want to go through and have to change all the occurring services. Also, I'm fairly certain it's my husband's fault, as he was "playing" with a scammer. He answered one of those random "Hi" texts. Fucking dumbass.

When it comes to house stuff I definitely need an adult. Thankfully my partner does everything because Iβm embarrassingly incompetent when it comes to anything house related. If it were up to me Iβd live in a 1 bedroom apartment/condo for life! Hope you find a good washer and dryer

We were invited to the governor's inaugural celebration. It's in 2 weeks and they still haven't announced the dress code. I'm trying to figure out what to wear and whether I need to make a hair appointment, so some information would be nice.
We went to the 2019 one, which was black tie optional, but there are rumors that this one might be more casual, but nothing has been confirmed. So idk if I need to find black tie attire, cocktail attire, or something else.

Ugh this sucks. A couple of weeks ago I somehow fell for what never even crossed my mind as a scam and compromised my credit card and then had to deal with sorting out all the fraudulent charges and getting a new card and switching all our services over to the new number. I was mad at myself! Iβm usually pretty smart about that stuff but it was a USPS scam asking for a small fee for βredeliveryβ of an item and I had my holiday shopping hat on and just totally believed it. It looked legit. God I am an idiot lol.

I think that's something that you could easily fall for. He KNEW this person was a scammer and purposefully responded. I just... ugh.
I recently started a new job and I LOVE it. I know Iβm still in the honeymoon phase, but so far I am so happy. That is the first time Iβve been able to say that in over a decade of lawyering.
I have way less time to GBCN now, but itβs all worth it.

redheadbaker , dryers generally last longer than washers. So if you want to cut your adulting in half and just buy a new washer, there you go. Ours is hidden away in the basement so we haven't needed to match the washer and dryer. We had to replace the washer immediately after moving in in 2014 but kept the dryer - it was bought in 2002 (we found the sales manual and receipt the previous and deceased owner kept) and it only went kaput in 2019.

I recently fell for a scam I'm still kicking myself for. I heard about a cool product and immediately googled it. Usually I know not to click on the Ad links but at that moment, I somehow did because they were advertising a steep discount. It ended up being a fake website for the product. It wasn't until after I clicked to pay that I realized, shit, this doesn't seem right because I wasn't getting the standard e-mail confirmations, confirmation page, etc. I did end up getting my money back pretty quickly after reporting it to the CC company, but I felt like such a dummy.

I did the same thing. I had been conversing with a former business partner about a package that was delivered to them instead of me a few days prior, so I thought it was related to that. Plus it was early and i was sick. I also felt like an idiot and never told my husband how my card was compromised.

Iβd had the same situation with a package that had gotten misplaced in the mail from eBay and it seemed obvious to me that it was related. Boooo. Iβm trained in phishing even! Theyβve gotten smarter. Even afterwards it took me over a week and a Facebook post in a local group warning people about this scam before the lightbulb went on. Here in solidarity with you on feeling like an idiot!

I hate drunk white 20-something yr old British guys. It's darts this week near us and there were idiots walking in traffic and one guy who was kneeling in front of traffic as part of a dare. They also scared my poor dog on our way to going out with him (to our local pub) and it meant that we had to go home as Cooper was in no state to hang out anywhere.

My car needed 4 new tires this week. We realized on Monday that DH's tires are also shot and will need at least 2 of them replaced. Merry Christmas to us!
I have to spend my time scrubbing my info from the internet. Someone who came across my dating profile found my full name and business info, then sent flowers and a handmade card there. So now I need to make sure he can't find any other way to contact me. Luckily I have a bunch of resources that were shared with me to do it (by people who specialize in this stuff). But it was a very unwelcome surprise to start my week. So sorry to all of you who have to deal with all the scams and frauds and the cleanup from that. It's such a pain.

I am doing my new tires next week. Goodbye, paycheck!

I mean, we can afford it and I'm really grateful for that but man, that's going to be a painful credit card bill.
I think I posted this frustration in another thread somewhere. We had our roof replaced just after Thanksgiving. Terrible rain a week ago, and we noticed that along the chimney was leaking. We called them, they same out tarped it up that day and came back the next day to fix it (something about caulk not ) curing. I was watching the spot we noticed water all day yesterday and it was fine. Another 12 hours of rain now, and itβs not fine. πππ Itβs two days before Christmas. I feel terrible calling them back today.
I've got a lot of deliveries coming today (scheduled before I knew it would be end of the world cold). The housecleaners are also coming today, but they asked for volunteers to cancel because people are calling out. I really hope I don't have to clean today.
ETA: Cleaners are still coming! Just later in the day.

Ours still came yesterday despite me telling them on Wed we could reschedule. They said the roads weren't awful enough. I gave them extra xmas tip and am happy to have a clean house!
This is a stupid grip but this woman drives me nuts.
Im in this particular FB group and there is this regular poster who thinks she has it the absolute worst on any subject. She was complaining about how cold it is where she lives. (Lexington, Kentucky). I mentioned that it's -60 windchill for my family and she goes "Well it's -40 here". Normally I don't engage but I was feeling fiesty so I did. I try to be nice and ask her if she lives in the mountains or something because I didn't think it was below zero down there. She gets all snippy with me and says I'm accusing her of lying. So I screen shot the weather for Lexingti=on Kentucky and tell her it is 40 degrees ABOVE zero where she is at. she flips out on me, calls me names and tries to report me to the admins. Good grief woman.
