Its not just littles, my 110lb Anatolian Shepherd is refusing to poop, too. In her defense, the ground is super saturated mud pit with treacherous footing even for me and she has two rebuilt knees with arthritis ans limited mobility. I cant really blame her if she goes in the house today.

I feel the same way. If mine did, she wouldn’t be in trouble. Other than an eye rolling Saaan-dy.

Seattle is under a sheet of ice this morning. All runways at the airport were closed, (although it sounds like they have one de-iced and open now for limited operations), 440 flights have been cancelled, bus service suspended, etc.
H was supposed to go on to work and just walked outside to check the road. He said our street is all ice.
We got to CT early this morning. There was some minor flooding and high winds around the GW Bridge but otherwise pretty uneventful.
The place we're staying is right on Long Island Sound. Waves were crashing hard enough to hit the second floor porch. Left to run errands and get breakfast. Got back to find the streets around the house under water. It's on high ground but we can't get to it.
So now we're at a brewery.
We absolutely need to get back in this afternoon because our dog is there. Not sure how she'll pee if the house is still surrounded! She's another delicate flower who hates to get wet.
These reports og power outages make me wonder if I should warm my house up a little more, so there is more room to drop? Or am I making excuses because I don’t like 65.

I knocked ours up a few degrees this morning for the same reason.

My dog hasn't had a walk since Wednesday and she's basically bouncing off the walls. Sorry, pup. The only exercise you're getting till Sunday is tennis balls tossed down the hall.

Tips I can think of from someone who used to lose power frequently before getting a generator:
If you're on a well with an electric well pump, fill as many containers with water as you can before you lose power. Even bathtubs can be filled with water for flushing toilets.
If the temperature drops enough (below 40-ish) you can store perishables outside to keep them from spoiling.
I've never lived in a house without a wood stove, so I don't have advice for heating without one, but opening cabinets to get air circulation and setting faucets to drip will help keep pipes from freezing.
If you get desperate, a power inverter can run some essentials in your house off of a car. They're less expensive than generators (and can be easier to find if there's a run on generators).
I’m just north of Buffalo. It’s crazy windy here but fortunately I still power. For now. There is a dead tree next to my building (townhouse) that I’ve heard crack in lesser winds so I will be sleeping on the couch tonight as it is just outside my bedroom.

Hope you all stay safe and warm! And good luck to the pups. We're just getting non-stop rain in London after our weird snow (rare occurrence in Dec). So, our dog walks are hugely muddy!

I brought our corgi out earlier and she swam through the snow and kept sticking her face in. She had peed already but bolted for the backyard, so I figured she had to poop. Nope. Come ON dog, do you want to turn into an ice cube?? 🤦‍♀️
Our powers been out since before 10 this morning (its 4pm as I'm typing this). We were having xmas dinner with my parents already, just came out here a little early. But theres not even an estimate of when it will be restored. At this point im wondering if were even going to have power before xmas day.
We're all freaking out here in Texas because we have PTSD (I'm not even joking) from Winterpocalypse in 2021. Remember when our electrical grid failed and the governor blamed it on windmills freezing up (they didn't) rather than the issue of petroleum lines freezing (they did)? And then ERCOT promised to do something to make sure the same catastrophe didn't happen again (they've done jack shit.)
So, yeah. I'm banking on a) not having a precipitation and b) warmer temps coming on Sunday to keep me from losing my shit.
I’d be freaking out too. I saw a report that Texas has assured residents the grid won’t fail and even I’m scratching my head over here because did they actually learn and take action after what happened in 2021? Hope everyone down there remains safe!
Here is a voiceover re-enactment of Greg Abbott's assurances to Texas residents. It's better than the actual one.
Our house has two furnaces, one in the basement, and one in the attic. The basement furnace heats the basement and the main floor of the house. The attic furnace heats the upstairs.
It seems our attic furnace has decided it's time to have issues. Today. We thought it was just not keeping up with the cold and wind chill, but, nope. I climbed up into the attic a while ago to look at it in person, and it's blinking an error code. The error code can indicate "excessive wind", among other things, so if the wind dies down, it might remedy on it's own. Or, it might not.
I tried turning the whole system off and then on again. A couple times. The same error kept popping up. The filter was replaced a few weeks ago. That's about the limit of my furnace problem solving skills. I did take a video of the error code, in case that's helpful later...
The house isn't freezing, as heat rises, and the furnace that heats the basement and main floor is working, but the bedrooms upstairs are quite chilly. I'm dripping faucets, just in case.
We have put in a call with our home warranty folks, but that was over two hours ago, and I haven't had a call back yet. I'm guessing they have a bunch of similar calls, and, really, we should be prioritized lower than folks with their sole furnace not working.
audette we had a similar issue with a blinking code on our ecobee about a week ago and my husband shut the circuit breaker off for that particular unit (we also have two) and turned it back on and that somehow fixed the problem. We even had someone double check that unit this week and he said it was fine.

Our basement decided to flood today, it is 5 degrees out but water is still coming in. I just do not understand how it isn’t frozen. I’m at the end of my rope between trying to clean it up and we’re supposed to have Xmas eve dinner here tomorrow.

Ugh. That is insult to injury. I’m so sorry.
if you want the to know (vs just a scream into the void frustration)….
the ground and water only freeze so deep. Like, in my area, the frost line is about 18”. So the first 18” below ground can/may/will freeze and the foundation had to be below the line. So, water lower than the frost line wont freeze, just be bitchass cold. You water main is going to be below that point, too.
