The county exec addressed the ban and not calling it sooner. He was hoping third shift workers would be able to get home before he issued the ban which is why it was called ‘too late’ he took full responsibility for that. Unfortunately conditions deteriorated way faster than they had anticipated.
I know but I can understand how for retail workers that also put them in a major bind, of course, companies should take care of their workers but we don’t live in an ideal world like that. So I see both sides about it.
Yeah and it was Friday before the biggest holiday of the year. Retail was not going to close until everyone realized it was actually here and bad. I’ll admit I did not take this storm seriously. I was prepared, but not because I thought it was going to be bad. I went out Friday morning for some last minute things as many people did. And I’m sure there were plenty of others who also did not think we’d have 36 hours of 50+ mph winds and snow parked on one spot. Like PP said no one was going to win this one. Ever.

I’m not disagreeing I’m just stating it’s the only criticism I can understand both sides of people being upset about. . Ideal world retailers would have been responsible to employees but that’s never going to happen so I get why some people are upset with poloncarz not calling it sooner.
This is a good article though and a lot of what I’ve been seeing friends/family talk about.
And most of this I definitely agree with and is what I was talking about in a prior post about the systemic problems. Unfortunately, because they are never dealt with throughout the year, it’s way too late when something like this storm happens. It is incredibly morbid, but I am hoping between the Tops shooting earlier and now this, some momentum sticks to address some of these problems for real this time.
