I started off enjoying the schadenfreude and watching the Republicans turn on each other, but now I just feel sad and worried about what's to come. It feels like there are no good (realistic) outcomes.
Why would we want short term limits that would essentially force us to have an entire House of Representatives that has no idea what they're doing? While career politicians aren't always going to necessarily do what is best due to wanting to keep their position, they're also not just going to Leroy Jenkins into the chamber with some crazy shit that could possibly destroy our country.

This argument varies by who is in power at the time. Sometimes the Ds are for term limits (like getting Turtle out of office, or the 90 yos who have been there for longer than I've been alive). Sometimes the Rs are for term limits.
Personally, I think we do need term limits because having people entrenched in their positions really does nothing to help democracy. Some of these people can't flex with the times (like the massive change that we need on climate change. Some of the dinosaurs just can't wrap their minds around what needs done, so the urgency isn't there.)

Institutional knowledge is important but I've come around over the years and believe that that institutional knowledge can remain with the many people who work for Congress that aren't elected officials.
I think 6 years is too few honestly, but I'd be okay with a 10-year limit for the House. Possibly up to 20.
Basically: "Two months ago, polls showed Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., at risk of losing her seat. Now, she is second in line to the presidency. Murray, 72, was sworn in Tuesday for her sixth term and was promptly elected as the president pro tempore of the Senate — a position that would normally put her third in the order of succession, after the vice president and the speaker of the House. But, of course, there is no speaker of the House."

Yup. I generally support term limits but I think 3 terms is too short. The reality is that it takes a LONG time for Reps to become competent even with really good staff. House terms are only 2 years.

In this case, it's like the (misogynistic stereotype of a) bride who dresses the bridesmaids in something ugly so she looks better. These buffoons know nothing now, and expect to be booted within 6 years anyway. They want to take it all down with them.

I was thinking about this earlier. Like, will be ever have a budget passed again? The one thing they have to do… some of the demands (no more omnibus, which is just done because they can’t get their act together). Ugh.
LOL Twitter reminded me that my rep's job is literally to get the Rs to vote together. Of course he's failing at that. Yet people keep voting for him 🙄

I think 20 years is reasonable. I think about my job (which is NO WHERE NEAR the importance of Congress, LOL) and the value of the long term employees to the organization! A whole body of new folks won't work well.
Sweet heavens. They realize they only have two years in their term, right? At this rate it'll be time for them to have to campaign again before they get anything done. How terribly sad. Snerk.
I updated the title to keep us on track on what round these clowns are on.
I'm starting to think your "wait for Jan 6th" theory has some merit.
It would be fitting in their eyes. The Politico article seemed damned sure that they had reached a deal with at least some of these people, but the vote shows that they clearly have not.

I imagine family members of the new members-elect that are still in DC are like "Fuck this, we're giving you two years for this shitshow and then you're coming back home."

And, thanks to the shitty media/election cycle, they spend a year and a half of those two years running for re-election.
I can’t believe it took this long for someone to vote for 45. Gaetz trying to placate PoliticsDaddy while still making his power grab is a next level display of bullshit, even for that guy lolololol.
She’s the best. I was so worried we were going to be moved out of her district when they drew the new lines, (and would have ended up with Seth Moulton, talk about a downgrade) but we kept her, thankfully. I bet that asshole lying about them drinking on the floor yesterday + having to miss Maura Healey’s inauguration today has her extra salty. I’m here for It.
