If anything is going to rile (white) people up (not the blatant racism, or the lgbtq+ discrimination and outright harm), it will be fucking with white children's overall education. Which is sad that it's going to take this for people to start doing something against him.
Ain't this the truth.
I teach AP chemistry. The fact that my students cry over this exam (and their other APs), as if their whole lives are measured on how well they do on these standardized exams is soul crushing. And the fact that parents push push push push these classes even if their children aren't ready, don't need it, or whatever is hugely problematic. #NotThePoint
I hosted an AP Euro study session the night before the test for DS and his friends last year. I was chatting with them before the studying started while they were eating. They all definitely felt this way. Except DS who knows I don't care at all if he passes the AP exam or not. So I asked them what they thought would happen if they got a 2 on the exam. They looked at me dumbfounded and said they weren't sure. I said, "Nothing. Literally nothing happens, except maybe you have to take another history class in college. You will still pass the class and you will still graduate and you will still go to a fine college." They said they never thought of it that way.

Disagree. Kansans accepted the utter austerity gutting of their education system in the 2000s. Oklahoma is trying to cease all federal funding of their education system. This is how the VA gov won, and Southlake, TX was willing to shatter its crowning jewel of a HS. White parents and administrators are willing to sacrifice anything.*

"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
Additionally, creating dual enrollment programs has its own issues. CC credit generally doesn't transfer out of state, and getting teachers to be qualified to meet the CC standards is difficult as they have their own specific degree requirements. Plus...$. The district I came from paid for those courses and books for kids. That was way more money than was being spent on AP.
I have a lot of issues with CB, but removing access to AP courses as a state seems awfully short sighted, even for this asshole. Of course, I've always said the longbgame of the GOP is to get rid of public education/limit education/keep people uneducated, so maybe this is exactly that.

Agreed. I have a really hard time imagining this flopping with the GOP base in a 2024 presidential primary. DeSantis is putting a megaphone and spotlight on long-term antics that have essentially been part of the party platform for decades.

Absolutely agree with the bolded. "I love the poorly educated" didn't come from SNL.

Right. This is entirely in keeping with the GOP playbook. Uneducated people are easier to control. Limiting access to the AP might limit kids going to college, which as you know are just liberal indoctrination factories 🙄

Not if you have taken over the state and just eliminate those requirements 👀
like you already eliminated requirements to become a teacher at all…
CC are governed by regional accreditation standards (generally a masters with 18 hours in field). Now, Florida has declared that CC and universities have to go with a different accrediting agency every 10 year cycle, but all the regional ones work similarly (Florida was under SACS due to proximity mainly).

Update on College Board’s AP AA Studies course: they are backtracking. Incredibly frustrating all around. I know this is likely just lip service to maintain credibility but I’m glad they’re somewhat fixing the mess they made.
