A FB friend of mine who lives in Texas made a post about a fundraiser for his kids sports team. They are doing a raffle… of an AR-15 riffle. What in the actual fuck?!
I am whooped today. A whole day of skiing (mostly without kids) has me beat. We were all in bed by 7:30 last night. I also cannot wait to do it again next weekend lol.
Question for those who ski/apple watch wearers. How do you track it? It was very depressing that I did not meet my calorie goal but am so tired!
We have to figure out how to navigate my husband leaving at the crack of dawn now that we have the new dog. She has no sense of time or routine in general and my husband only goes to work two days a week so we can’t get in a groove.
Normally he lets them out/feeds them and brings the dogs back upstairs with me before he leaves and we all sleep longer but all three were feral despite two being crated. We all got up and they went outside again and now they are sleeping again and I’m awake and sad lol
The days my husband works at work are my days to have some sleep and quiet! Don’t ruin this dogs!
fernweh, WTF indeed! Like all of our teams do Yeti coolers around here.
gerberdaisy, is there a skiing option for the workout app? Otherwise maybe pick other? One day my watch somehow did not give me "exercise" credit for all the walking around Universal and I was like "WTF?" So then I would put it on walking outdoor from the boat to the front gates and then the same at the end of the day if it hadn't counted walking in the parks.

I have a most irrational annoyance-
When sending a pdf or other document, don't give the end user blank pages! This drives me crazy, for no real reason. Whether it's the high school's weekly newsletter or student papers- extra blank pages just really bug me.
I'm exhausted. I have a deadline for school on Wednesday and was up late last night, then my husband was tossing and turning because it was a rough parenting weekend.
Not to mention, my stepson gets up at 5am for school, his bus comes at 6am.
I'm trying to concentrate on school on 4 hours of sleep, but I go to a Portuguese university and doing school in another language when you are tired is hard. Lol. My brain isn't working.
There were 15 staff members out at my son's school on Friday due to a stomach virus. This morning son said his stomach hurt and he feels off so I kept him home just in case. His friend came home with is on Friday to work on a project due today. I texted her Mom to say I could drop it at school so she would have it - also staying home today. Fingers crossed that no one here throws up!!
We switched from Verizon to T-Mobile yesterday and it's been a bit of a cluster. I hope it's just a rocky start and not what being with them will be like.

I have an app called Slopes and it tracks everything.

The old folks home that we carol at and visit for game nights invited my troop to do a cookie booth. We were like, ok. Brought some cookies, got set up.
30 minutes in I was calling my H for emergency backup stock. We were selling out of everything. Every resident and staff member was piling in to see the girls and buying 5+ boxes each. Families planned their visit to coincide with our sale hours. The head nurse took the troop around to visit the folks who weren’t able to get up and out of their room that day, and they were all buying a bunch.
I couldn’t believe it. Myrtle and co. cleaned us out of 11 cases in less than 2 hours.
Don’t ever let anyone convince you playing bingo a few times a year with a group of seniors doesn’t pay 🤣

I have a client that does this and it is the worst! I have to contact them each time to make sure they actually meant to send me blank pages. Why??
I am waiting on the last of our tax forms and my FA says Feb 15 at the earliest.
I also need to print out the forms to cash in some savings bonds that have maxed out. I think that might be easier than taking DH to the bank because they're his.
ETA: Ok no, on further review, we would still have to go to the bank to get his signature certified, so I guess we just need to go to the bank and do it.
I am taking the day off today. Friday, I ended up working the entire day. I was supposed to be off, but an IT project had some bumps, and I ended up with over 7 hours of OT. So, I’m tired.
This morning, I’m going to take the dogs to daycare, go grocery shopping, and then do some school work. I’ll eventually fold my laundry.
My H has a milestone birthday tomorrow and I have absolutely nothing for him. I bought him a really $$ gift for Christmas and told him it was for both Christmas and his birthday. I feel guilty and at the same time I’m like whatever…for my birthday I always have to order my own cake and most of the time H just gives me $ because he says I’m impossible to get a gift for. His Christmas present to me was not for me, like nothing I would have EVER asked for & I’ve asked for vacuums and stuff like that before. It was more like a household gift and I spent a bunch of my own $ buying stuff from my list. Does that make me an asshole? I suppose because it’s like retaliation in a way.
My official title finally got changed today! I did not get promoted, it was just a bad title to begin with (I was hired as a coordinator when it really should have been titled manager). So after almost 15 years working, I am finally called a manager lol. My "career" hasn't followed any kind of trajectory though - it's been all over the place between a layoff and moving out of state - so I guess hopefully now we're on track for the next 20 years. I honestly don't really aspire to much more than this - planning and organizing are not my jam so being the head of a department is probably not an ideal fit for me. Anyway, I'm glad I can stop telling people I'm a coordinator. That was my title back in 2008 when I got my first professional job, so it felt so weird going back to that title when I have a lot more responsibility and experience than I did back then!

My day started with me dropping my Prozac behind the very heavy antique dresser. I wasn't able to reach it so I'll try again when I get home. Then I spilled coffee on my shirt. Lovely.
As I'm dropping DS off, a classmate is getting her temp taken and I hear the teacher tell her she has a fever.

Release your guilt! This is not retaliation, you are matching the energy he gives you. Telling you that you are impossible to get a gift for means he doesn't want to try. Screw that. If he asks where his gift is tell him to go buy it like he makes you do for your birthday.
It was a rough weekend parenting wise and I'm exhausted today. I know all parenting is hard and when people say it "gets easier" it really means it's just "different". But I'd like some of that "different" please. The struggles led to H and I fighting which makes it harder.

I’m sorry you had a rough weekend. ((hugs))
Also, the phrase I use is “less awful” not better. It really is just different. Some ways are better, some are worse, but it’s always an evolving thing.

My 8 year old became obsessed with solving a rubiks cube this weekend. But couldn’t figure it out, so I spent hour learning how to do it and now I’m trying to teach him. Not how envisioned spending my weekend.
Our 7 year old broke our bathroom sink yesterday. He was playing with the water and the sink filled up, then he tried to soak up the water with toilet paper and completely jammed up the pipe.
My H was home with him and it took every bit of my strength to not ask him how he managed to do all that without him noticing...
I am mostly bummed that he was able to replace the pipe, I was already picking out a new sink
Seriously, what are people spending on groceries these days? My shopping last night was relatively light-- no meat, no eggs, nothing for lunches except fresh fruit, no cleaning supplies or toiletries. Mostly just fruits and veggies, dairy and a few snacks. It was $200!!
I'm doing 3 meals/week with every plate, and the rest is vegetarian or every man for himself. But that's another $75. So $275 for one week of groceries.
I really try not to think about it, but I swear it gets more expensive every week.
jinkies, ours is all over the place because at least 1-2x a month I end up buying extra stuff, either to stock up on pantry/freezer items I've used recently or because I go to a store like Trader Joes that I don't go to often, so I'll buy stuff I don't necessarily plan on eating immediately. For just weekly items like produce, eggs, snacks, odds and ends, I'm at somewhere between $100-120 for two people. I shop primarily at Aldi, though. Yesterday I started to put together a grocery order through Instacart at Wegmans and quickly gave up - everything there was at least $1-2 more than what I get at Aldi (also through Instacart).
It IS more expensive than it was though - for a while I was more like $80-90 at Aldi.

DH uses a heart rate monitor with his Oura ring. I don’t know if that would help? I feel like the Apple Watch isn’t always super accurate.
But also, even though it’s tiring, I don’t feel like I work all that hard when I’m skiing with my kids. I’m not really pushing myself that hard (though they’re getting better/faster!). And depending on how busy it is, you do spend a chunk of the day standing in lift lines and on the lift.
The weekend wasn't bad. Lots of sports games and a birthday party. We mostly did errands and house stuff on Sunday. For once, we are super prepped for the week. But it makes Sunday seem like a really long day.

I’ve been doing about $90 a week. But that’s for 4 of us. It’s me, a 23 yo and a 17 yo, and none of us are huge eaters.
I cook twice a week, and usually the leftovers get us through. I usually have some frozen fish in the freezer or I’ll make rice and beans if I need a third meal.
I also always buy a bag of cereal, and we eat a lot of tuna, and yogurt.
I need to buy eggs every other week, and restock dairy.
We don’t buy a lot of fruit currently, and we also aren’t huge snackers.

So this is how I have been justifying my crazy bill every week, because there always seem to be some "extra stuff" that I was picking up to last me a while. But then this week I happened to literally need nothing other than perishables and handful of snack items like hummus and crackers. I was expecting it to be $150 or less. So I was really surprised at the total!
ETA: chilerellanos, $90 a week is super impressive! My kids are at prime "eat all the things" ages, so I'm sure that contributes, but I honestly don't think I could keep it under $100/week for 3 meals/day x 4 people. I know I was spending around $150 pre-covid, because it was often around $100 at Aldi, then around $50 at another store to pick up things Aldi doesn't sell. I really need to start making an effort again to shop around for better prices.

jinkies, I just placed a $150 order at Walmart and seemed to add up so fast! A little meat, but no fruit/veg (buy those at a different store). Basically enough for 2 dinners, and snacks, pantry items we were out of.

I was saying to DH that I think my kid buying lunch at school is cheaper than the cost to make her lunch at this point.
There are 3 of us, but my 9yo is not a big eater. I would say we're around $100 week at Kroger and then $200ish month at Costco (sometimes I can stretch to 6w).
I try and fill in with Aldi, but we've been doing more Kroger pick-ups lately.
