Travel question that I don't want to create a separate post for. Going to France in May, departure date from the states is May 5th, returning to the states May 15th. My kids passports expire Aug 31st. Travel agent is trying to tell my Dad that they and my SIL need to renew before the trip (I'm not sure when SILs expires). According to this we are fine not to renew before this trip-correct?? travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/international-travel/International-Travel-Country-Information-Pages/France.html

You are not alone. I bought a toiletries kit that had an astronomy chart showing the sizes of the planets in order all because I could not name them all, let alone their order. I keep it out and try to learn as I brush my teeth.

I mean, it says that the requirement is at least 3 months and you're within 2 weeks of that and then in the same line it recommends at least 6 months of validity so I would probably trust the travel agent on this one. It's their job and it's not like they're benefiting from you renewing, you know? So why bother making you do it unless they have a concern?

I’ve always gone with the “renew if it expires within 6 months of travel” rule. I would renew to be safe.

DS1 just tested positive for strep throat. Of course. DH, myself, DS1 and 2 are supposed to be traveling 4 hours on Friday for my sister's baby shower. He will get 2 doses of antibiotics today, but obviously the rest of us have been exposed. I really don't want to miss her shower but also don't want to get a pregnant woman sick. Bah. I guess we will see how everyone feels later this week.

My Google search history should probably embarrass me but I figure that is what its for! Last night it was searching for how to help my kid with her math homework - it's 4th grade math so I probably shouldn't have to search it but welp, here we are...
wanderlustmom, I'm so sorry for the loss of your mom and for the anxiety you are dealing with. That has to be really tough. I hope the new PCP works out for you.

I gave up trying to help my 4th grader with math homework last night and made my 15 year old (who is in honors level HS math) help instead. It’s an interesting thing when you need the 15 year old to cover what you’re unable to.

Strep doesn't seem to jump around for us, so crossing fingers no one else catches it.
I made an appointment with a new primary care physician, so now I get to be anxious about that appointment for three weeks, lol.
twinsies! (Well, mine is a ‘found a lump but it probably is t anything’ mammogram I just scheduled in two weeks. But I literally opened this thread to stop perserevating about it. Lol.

My issue is they call things different names now. So instead of least common denominator, she was calling it something else.
So I was confused because I didn't know the terms, not that I didn't know how to do the work.
I thought math was like the one universal language or whatever.

I found the answer key for my 6th grader's math book online and it even explains how they got the answers. No shame in using it to check his work. I think we can do math, but it is being taught so differently and the focus is more on the how than the actual answer.

My poor kid is an only But we'll probably get to the point where she has to reach out to her cousins for help pretty soon!

I love my partner and he is great but he is ALWAYS forgetting something. I can’t tell you how many times he’s left a credit card at a restaurant, even his whole wallet. Will leave the house and forget his phone, etc. Today we are headed back to our apartment from our row house and he forgot his keys. Problem is I had given my keys to a family member to collect our mail and water our plants. So now we have to stop off in an Uber to get the keys from my family member which I wasn’t planning to do till tomorrow when it was more convenient. If his head wasn’t screwed on he’d probably leave it somewhere!

Cousins work well for it! My oldest texts their cousin who’s a year older for help often!
I was influenced and tried the IL MAKIAGE from all the ads I got on facebook. It was effing terrible. Even the concealer was bad for me. I use sephora's perfection mist air bush foundation and it's amazing and about a third of the cost.

I think of Google and the internet as me just having outsourced part of my brain.
Plus, I click all the random links and news stories to earn Bing points to redeem for Starbucks gift cards and I also write fiction (sci-fi), and I will edit the fiction writing of those in my writing group and sometimes will look up stuff for them, so... yeah. My search history is unhinged.

It feels like the time to expiration is cutting it really close. But I'm hyper paranoid about that sort of thing because I got hit by all air traffic being shut down by the Icelandic volcano in 2010, and got to spend a bonus week in Ireland because of it.

Oh hi 👋🏻, I’m your partner! Been this way since childhood, drives my H insane, and my mom always says the thing about leaving my head somewhere. Lol
Ok douche, go ahead and call it mud. My husband DID have halitosis. We addressed it after I talked to you girls on here and guess what? Years later, no problem. Mofongo, you're a cunt. Eat shit. ~anonnamus
TR, yeah I get that. Mostly I don't want to renew now because the cost x's 3, my DH has a new job and its going to be tough for him to take off to go with us which is a requirement with kids passports but also there no appointments that I can find for the next month. I'll likely have to go to one of the expensive processing places. ugh I'm going to call the agent and talk with her I guess.

wanderingback This going to sound incredibly juvenile, but are you open to reciting a checklist with him? I used to work in management (technically glorified babysitting) in the music industry like 100 years ago and got the conversation down to a science:
Me: “Ok, are you ready to go?” Them: “Yes!” Me: Are you sure that you have everything?” Them: (stares blankly) “Yes” (again with the same level of confidence)
Me: “Wallet, ID, keys, phone, and charger?” Them: “Oh, wait…”.
You should feel like a partner and not a parent, but five fingers / five things helped so much!

I get that. I dread having to do mine and it doesn't expire until 2028 LOL but I'd rather that than get to the airport and they won't let you on the plane, you know?

Does your library do it? Ours does and you can’t make an appointment. Theoretically you may have to wait, but I’ve never seen anyone actually waiting (I’ve seen people in the room that they use).
mccallister84, no they don't. Last time we took the kids to a small farm town post office that is about 30 min from us and they were great/so fast and helpful. Their first opening in March 28th so I'll probably have to expedite no matter what.

My 14 year old has a snow day tonight. I let him sleep in because I knew he was tired, but I wanted him up by 11 and he refused to get out of bed so I grabbed a spray bottle and sprayed him with water. I don't even feel bad.

if your DH can’t go you can get paperwork notarized I’m pretty sure and ho without him. We looked into it the last time we renewed (in 2020) but DH ended up being able to go. Something to look into.

My BFF was refused boarding on Delta to fly to Switzerland when she had 5mo left on her passport and a return flight 6 days later. I would renew now.
