I saw a CBS Sunday story on these folks and didn't think there would be any way I'd do that as it exceeds my "enclosed space" limits, but this story just confirms it. Just terrifying.
I have been seeing this all over tik tok. It is fucking TERRIFYING. Even if I had disposable income, I would never pay to go into space or do a deep dive.

I keep seeing the clip where they explain that it's controlled with a game controller. Their legal release, as read in the clip, says that it's a homemade sub and they're not responsible if it falls apart (something like that).

OMG yes. I saw something about $250k and I guess I ASSumed that’s what it cost to build (upon reflection, naively). But no, I think it was actually the cost of a ticket to ride? The guy already went up on one of the Blue Origin rockets. Wasn’t that enough wasted resources? Let’s feed some ducking kids next, dude.

Yes, I read $250k for an 8 day tour. Eight days trapped in the cramped confines of a submarine sounds like my actual nightmare, but I guess that shows there's something out there for everyone.

I was reading a blurb about how this is how the filthy rich vacation now because they've seen and done everything else. Just because we can, doesn't mean we should. Also, people have way too much damn money.
Having said that, I do hope they're rescued safely. And then I hope this company reimburses the Coast Guard (and thus the taxpayers) for all of its assistance.
In the WaPo article, the cbs reporter says that his sub he was in for the story also went missing. I wonder if this is their gimmick, but it went too far.
I saw this simulated footage earlier this morning and was shocked. I really didn't have a good sense of just how deep Titanic is vs. other things that are also very deep in the ocean. The link is to Twitter, but it's worth a watch:

Ack! No thank you please. Thinking about how far under it is makes me nervous.
I cannot imagine willingly climbing into something that is then bolted shut and submerged to explore the deepest parts of the earth. It's nightmare inducing to even think about.
Also, we should just stop fucking around with the Titanic. Let's just leave those souls be.

What I read also said it was only able to be opened from the outside and since it was tethered to anything it literally could have ended up anywhere and it it pops to the surface they can't open it, I believe they had ~96 hours of oxygen available .
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
I'm claustrophobic and also NOT a fan of being in the ocean. This is all types of fear levels unlocked for me.
I can imagine how enticing such an excursion would be but, man! This is just too damn risky. Also it kind of speaks to the hubris of the rich. I think it was $250,000 per passenger to take the dive. I hope they're found alive, but I'm not sure it will be a successful rescue mission.

I didn’t know until yesterday that things like this were bolted shut from the outside. Omg I can barely handle being shut in an elevator.

These kinds of ocean depth graphics/animation make me dizzy every single time yet I seem to look up every one of them that exist. Like I'm hoping that one of these times I'll be able to wrap my head around it. Nightmare fuel, all of this!

This is sad but at first I thought this was a science mission but then I read it was $250,000 per person and it was rich people and my thoughts slightly changed, to be honest. One person was on there with their son and yikes that must be a really horrible feeling. They could be anywhere and if they are found deep in the ocean it’s going to be hard to retrieve them.
I’m shocked that they apparently didn’t have a locator beacon. That seems like a baseline safety precaution.
Adding one was discussed after they lost communication for around five hours during last year's voyage. But it seems nothing came of it.
Holy SHIT! The more I find out about this company, the more unbelievable it seems that people trusted them with their lives. I was reading an article last night that said they don’t even have a rescue plan, they’ll have to come up with one when (if?) they find it. I do not believe this will have a happy ending… The stupidity of rich people is mind boggling.
DH has been following this and last night he was like "oh yeah and it's homemade" and I was just like "yeah no." Like, not only is it a homemade, but they're also charging $250k per person?
