Oh my. I have a new person working. It is supposed to be a help for me, as we need 1.5 people. She is a retiree that wanted to get back into this field. Sounds great!
She is computer illiterate, and has not done any work with posting charges or payments, which is the main thing we do. Literally never. I don’t want to have her come back next week. I need to chat with my boss at lunch. :/
I don’t think I’m being too harsh, but maybe I am?
I did this with a temp once. We hired her to do data entry and she had no idea how to use a computer. She had MS Office listed as a skill on her resume and couldn't even navigate Outlook, let alone Excel.
HR called the temp agency after she left and told them to not send her back the next day
It hasn't rained here (at my house in the DFW area) since July 16. I kind of forget what it's like.
The weather is really messing with my mental health, globally, not just here. I mean, I think I mentioned yesterday I got a notification that tomorrow could be the hottest day ever 🥵. Apparently our avg high is 92, our actual temps have been 100, and I think might be 102 tomorrow? Or one day soon. It’s just day after day, and I know August is crawling by for all of us.
What are your avg temps and current temps? I think y’all are hotter, and we usually tons of rain, we now have fire warnings.
Ok douche, go ahead and call it mud. My husband DID have halitosis. We addressed it after I talked to you girls on here and guess what? Years later, no problem. Mofongo, you're a cunt. Eat shit. ~anonnamus

Today was my last day of work and I’m on maternity leave now! 3 weeks or so until baby comes (if they’ll ever give me my c/s date…) so things to get done!
DS1 has a gastroscopy tmr so we could get it done before baby comes and I have my GD test in the AM so I’m mentally restarting on Thursday for Mat leave haha.
But crazy to think of being done work for at least the next 9 months or so! I haven’t sorted out yet how long I’ll take or what it’ll look like but April/May is the earliest I’ll go back.
I also got a 7% raise this week to align my salary with market value so that’s really nice and I’ll have another salary review in 6 months. Plus a promotion to Senior Manager once I am back from maternity leave. So many exciting things!

I had to google, but our average for July & August is a high of 96 and it's been over 100 every day for the last 12 days and a total of 26 days over 100. Usually 103-108 as the high. The average low is 77 and I bet we haven't gone below 80 in that time. And average of 3 days of rain each month and I think the 16th was the only time it rained in July and nothing in August yet.
I think next week we'll get some relief and see 70s - 90s temps.
I'm super looking forward to my weekend in Breckenridge at nearly HALF the temperature (low 40s- low 60s).

It’s really taxing, mentally! At least for me, ha. I just want a good, solid all day rain! I find later afternoon/evenings are the worst b/c everything has just been heating up all day, and it doesn’t get better until like 10pm. This is inside my house, to be clear.

My local library is doing renovations and so they're moving while that happens. They'll be closed from Sept 9 - end of October for the move and I freaked out a little (ok a lot) about it today and put 10 books on hold that should be available before they close so I can have a big stash for that month+ lol

We have successfully made it through 2 days of school and now 8 therapy appts.
I'm grateful she's an only child ... I wouldn't be able to afford this otherwise.
eta - When I say 2 days of school, I mean 2 truncated 3 class periods a day of school. There is no way she can handle a full day at this point. $30/day for Ubers the days I work .. ugh.

After a year of awful periods, cramps that wake me up at 3am, hysterical crying outbursts, countless stained clothes and furniture, I finally saw a gyno to talk about options. I'm 50, so I know it's perimenopause, but for some reason I had to talk myself into doing something about it. I guess I had convinced myself that this is just what happens, and you know, suck it up and deal. But at some point I decided I didn't have to live with this constant anxiety of staining another chair or worrying if 25 tampons is enough for a week of camping. Also realized that my mom didn't start menopause until 54, so if I have 3.5 more years of this before I start missing periods I may drink myself to death.
Saw the gyno today (he was VERY handsome) and talked about options. I asked about an IUD consult when making the appointment, but we talked about a low-dose BC pill to see if it evens out my hormones. He said I'd know within a month if it was working, and if it doesn't, I'll get another IUD.
I have been unreasonably cranky this week and I’m just done. Fortunately for everyone involved, I only have a week or so until a short vacation and I am counting down the days! My boys are going to a campout at the beach (no thank you) over the holiday weekend, while I stay with my parents and veg. Inside, in the a/c, under a fan. I do not want to feel like I’m breathing through a warm, wet sponge, but more power to them!
My son is going away with his girlfriend's family.
He works at boutique flour mill and got the idea to take a selection of items they sell as a hostess gift, which I thought was a great idea.
Today he comes home with the items he's going to take.
Instead of like, regular one or two pound bags, he brought a 5 pound bag of pasta, a 5 pound bag of oatmeal, and a selection of 2 pound bags of flour. LOL. It filled two cardboard boxes.
It is a lovely gift and we will whittle it down to one box, but I'm still dying a little at the idea of them getting the huge bulk size bags LOL.

I had haircuts scheduled for my daughter and I at 315 today (on my day off.) I missed a call from the salon while driving there to push my appointment back an hour. I have another commitment. They said they left a message (they didn't). I've only had my hair cut by this person a couple of times, and it's been fine. Nothing special. I won't be coming back. So irritated because the salon has all divacut certified people.
That is super annoying and I would stop going there too.
My salon often calls the day of my appt. (or my daugther's, I take her to the same place, so I feel like we're there a lot) to say 'hey, your stylist had a cancellation and we wanted to see if you'd like to come in earlier than your scheduled appt. time' but if the answer is no or you miss the call, you still keep your regular appointment. I get them wanting to move things up and get out earlier if possible or consolidate a break or whatever, so I don't mind that though.

I always wondered who bought those tiny 2lb bags of flour! My normal wheat and bread flour is always are 5lb bags, my APF is purchased in 10lb bags whenever possible! I would pass out from joy at this gift, haha. <3
ETA: I seriously adore your kid, this is just so sweet! I hope he has a great trip!
cmeon, rubytue, to be fair, the pasta is really really good. Hopefully they will be thrilled with a 5 lb bag of it!
His reasoning behind 5 pounds of oatmeal was that if they all ate it for breakfast a couple mornings, it would go fast. Actually, I just looked on their website and it might be 10 pounds LOL. I don't see a 5 pound option-- I'll have to check the bag again.
Everything is just so bulky it's making me laugh. I was envisioning a little gift bag of token stuff. This is legitimately like $150 retail value. But he leaves tomorrow morning, so there's no switching to anything smaller. Lucky them!

This is a kid who knows what he's doing. Just sit back and let him rock it. LOL

Right, I totally get that. And, that's fine. But, this was super annoying. I'm out.
Anyone done the laundry stripping? I bought everything because I feel like the sheets aren't as clean and smell a little stale after sitting in the closet.
But I don't want them to like create bleach spots or something. I mean, they're just target sheets, but still...
I am kind of lazy about it and loosely follow the instructions I’ve found online. I stripped pillows yesterday by soaking them in hot water, borax, washing soda, and a bit of detergent. The pillows were 🤢 to start, but so white and clean now.
Occasionally I throw some washing soda and borax into a load of towels or sheets. I can definitely see the difference.
and for the TMI crew ( icedcoffeebeerlover and TR ) I feel your pain, literally. Back when I was like 20 years old, I woke up one AM with a huge enlarged thing on my lady bits. I want to say it was about the size of a golfballl. I had no clue what was happening but it hurt like hell. I went to urgent care and while it has been 30 years now, I still remember this experience like it was yesterday.
It was a male dr and I was so embarrassed at the time. (Now all I see are male drs but back then I was a nervous female) He took one look and was like "Ok, lets lance it". I was speechless. Very quickly he had tools in hand and cut it open. OMG THE PAIN WAS AWFUL!!! He used cotton swabs to remove the puss and asked if I wanted to see it. No thank you sir.
First day of school here, and Kid 1 somehow lost their city bus pass on the freaking bus. They couldn't find it (and looked, supposedly "all over"), and since the bus system's lost and found is 50 miles south of us I decided to just drive the extra 5 miles to the local transit office after picking them up to get a new pass.
OMFG it took 45 minutes and at one point I had to explain to the lady at the desk what a hyphen was because she kept misspelling our last name. It's done, they have the pass, but they had better not lose this one because I might blow a gasket if I have to talk to that woman again.
On a different note, DS 2 was kind of short tempered when I picked him up even though he insisted his day was good. We got home 45 minutes ago, and after a snack he headed to his room to read. I just walked past his door, and he's dead asleep, faceplanted in his book. The first day of seventh grade was apparently no joke.
Today was only 97 and my immediate reaction was “oh this isn’t so bad.” What on earth. Compared to the 110 a few days ago that is true but I’m with y’all on this taking a toll on mental health. Everything here is brown and dry and it’s been horrendously hot for months. We still have a month at least to go. It’s so depressing.

We have somehow been freakishly blessed with 70s-80s weather in August but my husband keeps taking that as an invitation to turn off the A/C during the day and I might have to kill him if he doesn't stop.
Update: they have to check one of his conflicts (a case where he played a very small role and his current firm no longer represents the client). He’s freaking out that this will mean he can’t get the job

Yay for taking control of my health.
My sister is an OB-GYN and she’s always telling me that you do not have to suffer through periods and perimenopause—there are options! I’m glad you found one

That would be such a frustrating reason to not get a job! Fingers crossed it works out for him.
