I started brainstorming ideas for Christmas. I know it's early but teens are pretty hard to buy for so I've been just jotting down ideas.
I did this for me haha. I always freeze when people ask me what I want, so I started a note that’s shared between my laptop and my phone. Trying to hit different price points for different family members

I already have Kate Spade perfume and a pair of gold earrings on my list, lol.
I start shopping for Christmas in September. David starts his lists then and adds to it up until I'm done shopping. I have two gifts bought for him already. It's just so much less stress on me to get the bulk of his shopping done early. He's almost 15 so his interests aren't changing every five minutes anymore.
David and his best friend like to hang out at each others houses Fridays after school and because they live like 40 minutes away, we do the bulk of the driving. She works and has three other kids and just a lot of things to juggle and I have a lot of time on my hands so I'm happy to do it. She's is super sweet and appreciative and it works for us and it's truly NBD for me, but she is soooo late to firm things up because "she feels bad and doesn't want to be a burden." It's like, you're being a burden by not being committal until the last minute. And she does this every.single.time. Well, we have homecoming tomorrow and there's FOUR events throughout the night that they need to be driven to and I offered to just taxi them around town for all of the reasons previously mentioned and I'm getting "are you sure? I don't know. That's a lot for you. " I assured her "I'm happy to do it, it's fine, REALLY" and still haven't heard back, lol omg. I think I'm going to just have a face-to-face with her about it because I don't want my tone to be misconstrued over text but I'm trying to make plans around these plans and I can't until I hear back!

I'm in small town ND again, this time for a family wedding.
This AM I went with my two young 2nd cousins to get smoothies before dropping them off at school. There are 6 little old ladies who have coffee there every morning. Of course they see me and are like "who the heck is this petson"? Once I explain who I am and who my family is, they ask me to join them. I had to bring my cousins to school, but you better believe I went back and visited with the seeet ladies.
Now I'm heading to the school to have lunch with the girls. It's pizza bread day - apparently "the best school lunch ever". HAHA!!
My weekend has already been made by those sweet ladies inviting my for coffee this AM!

So far: Merch from his favorite YouTubers (t-shirt, sticker socks) Arctic liquid freezer (some cooling thing for his PC) wrist wrest yet ANOTHER keyboard stream deck wave mic arm
He's super into tech stuff, if you can't tell. :-)

My David (8) informed me that the Johnson’s head to toe body wash he’d been using is too babyish so I asked him what he wants instead. Dr Squatch 🥀. Just break my heart why don’t ya, kid?
I'm really looking forward to this weekend. Tonight, I'll have the house to myself. DH and his BFF are going out for a guy's night, DS2 is going to the homecoming game, and my parents took my dog to hang out with theirs for the weekend. I have absolutely no intentions of doing anything but binging Virgin River and Sweet Magnolia on Netflix.
Tomorrow is DS2's homecoming, and he's so nervously excited for it because he has a girlfriend this year. I'm volunteering at the school in the morning to set up and decorate, then coming home to help DS get ready, then playing taxi for DS, his girlfriend, and DS's BFF and his date. I can't believe my baby is old enough for homecoming dances now!
Sunday is another quiet day and I plan on decorating for fall/Halloween. The local pumpkin patch opens up on Sunday, but I'm probably going to wait to go because the weather is supposed to be gorgeous, which means everyone will be there and I hate people, lol.
L woke up having one of those "hysterically crying but still asleep so can't calm down" fits around 12:30
My son used to have these a lot, more often with naps but at night too and they always freaked me out. I mean, I knew what was going on and that he was fine, but they were always kind of unsettling.

My city is really disincentivizing people from doing work with permits.
We pulled a permit for electrical work, the electrician did a great job, but we didn’t pass inspection because our house numbers were in the wrong place. But ironically, we had recently moved the house numbers to pass inspection for plumbing work.

goldengirlz, I’m so sorry for your kid! No way would I have rescinded the invite if I had made that mistake. What did the dad say — just sorry, didn’t mean to invite you?

I started to suspect he had the wrong person when he offered to pick them up from school; their schools are in totally different directions.
So I had to clarify. I wrote back, “This is [DC name] from [old school]. Did [his DD name] mean to invite a different [DC name]?”
And he just responded, “Ah, yep, need more coffee.” No apology or offer to reschedule.
These are middle schoolers so I didn’t want to send my kid if his kid is expecting someone else to show up.
GODDAMNIT. I just finished getting ready to go meet my friends and P!nk just posted that she has a sinus infection and the show is cancelled. And they rescheduled it for the Sunday after Thanksgiving when I won’t be in town.
I legit made this same statement the other day! Kid just finished a walkathon fundraiser last week and then this week brought home another one for band... We didn't ask anyone to donate for walkathon and just sent a check and I'm tempted to do the same for this one.
I mean, it's an equity issue for most who can't afford to just write a check (every time), or kids just don't participate (my DH included way back when). Where are my tax dollars going if they're not paying for these activities? I could go on and on.
Some of the posts annoy me too. I don't think families should shell out money every other week, but don't guilt friends and family on social media to buy "just 15 more!" Of whatever you're selling. I just bought $20 worth of some kind of raffle tickets or calendars from another friend who needed to meet goal.
I was just complaining about this yesterday! I donated to my sister's kids' fundraiser yesterday. She is on the PTO and they are spearheading this, so felt like I couldn't not support the kids and her. But there are a lot of causes I would have rather spent that $80 on. Their school has decent funding and an involved parent population, they are fine.
Then again I regularly donate to a lot of causes that I shouldn't have to because they should be funded or should not exist (like trans health access and abortion funds, when everyone should just have access to healthcare without private donations to help offset their rights being violated...) so maybe this isn't different.

I've been wondering when I should stop buying this for DS. It sounds like I still have a few years!

Oh no! That sucks 😞
Thank you, yes it does! I put on FOUNDATION. I drank an afternoon coffe! I put in a pair of contact lenses! Thanks a lot, Alecia.

I hate getting ready and then having plans cancelled! Maybe go out for dinner instead?
I'm selfishly glad she wasn't sick 2 days ago! I was supposed to see the Chicks in August when my sister visited me and they had to reschedule due to illness, so I had to go without her. If I had flown down here to see Pink with that same sister and it got rescheduled again, I would have been so disappointed. And probably avoided concerts with my sister in the future lol.
DD is really struggling in science. She says she doesn't understand anything they are doing at all. They have a test on Tuesday.
I wanted to study with her last night but she had 3 pages of catch up work that she was unable to complete in class, so she did that instead.
I told her multiple times how important it was for her to bring home her study packet so that I could basically teach her the unit this weekend since she claims to understand nothing.
I checked her bag this afternoon, and she didn't bring anything home. No study packet. No Friday folder with important information for next week. No homework book. Nothing.

I fucking HATE scammers.
I just got a text & link for a telehealth appointment ... didn't recognize any of it. Checked my email and calendar to make sure I didn't have something I had forgotten about. Googled the domain & company & the name of the NP that was supposedly "waiting" for me. All were legit and/or plausible that it could be a wrong number from someone practicing in my old zip code.
I sent a text back to say that it was a wrong number. Almost immediately get a call from Texas from someone asking me "are you on your iPhone now, did you have trouble clicking the link" and when I responded that I did not have an appointment twice, she snottily said "that's not what I asked you", at which point I knew it was a scam and started screaming and cursing at her (which is the only way I've ever found effective to get off a scam call list).
I am pretty savvy and tried very hard to be careful and check the source out before engaging with any unknown contact, but this one 100% played on my instinct to not want someone to miss a doctor appointment/a health provider's time to be wasted. This is the first time I've seen this tactic for scam texts & calls.
We had a crew here repairing some siding and of course they found more issues. Now the garage lights and my bedroom lights don’t work. Other things/outlets in said areas work. Being a grown up is stupid.
