My 14yo went to a friend’s house tonight. Yesterday a friend of mine’s husband invited my dh and our ds2 to a hockey game. So it’s just me and ds3. My son wants to be picked up by 10, ds2 and h I don’t think will be home by then and ds3 is fast asleep on the couch. I’m going to have to somehow get this sleeping 55pound 6yo out to the car. I’m exhausted too and not the happiest right now.
Oh, I am really side eyeing my niece's preschool over this. They have had not one but two fundraisers for...Christmas. Like, apparently the school gets each child a present, and they have a celebration. I'm all for families in the school that can afford extras subsidizing the families that can't, but I don't give a shit about my OWN childcare center having a holiday celebration for him and actively don't want any additional presents, so I certainly don't care about paying for some other center's seemingly over the top celebration! Fundraise for something that actually matters, FFS.
(And also not everyone celebrates Christmas, but the vast majority of people here do, so I'm sure they haven't even taken that factor into account)
I'm overly passionate about this...but daycare fundraisers, where families at least in the U.S. literally pay an entire weeks pay for the service/schooling/care put me over the edge. I'd feel a *little* better if the money at least went to paying super hard working teachers minimum wage or you know, a liveable wage...but no. I have a friend who actually stood up to daycare about fundraising, asking how their 10 mo old was supposed to ask people to buy things?
Also I didn't really think about it, but yes a lot of the designs are Christ based holidays. Like buy wrapping paper, wreaths and candles, but they're all Christmas themed, but not for other holidays, or more generic. Heck I'd even like something non-seasonal so I'd want to use it the other 11/12 months of the year.
Omg we start daycare next week and if they dare ask us to fundraiser I will laugh in their face. I didn’t know that was a thing. I am not paying $3100 a month and fundraising a damn thing.

Never heard of this either! I’d for sure have laughed in the director’s face if they’d pulled that back when we did daycare. With all we paid, how about you buy US a gift lol. They did organize a holiday event where you could buy from the wish list of a child in DCF, but it was totally voluntary. That I was happy to do every year.
I hope your DD loves daycare!! I bet it will be cute to see her interact with the other babies.
cjcouple, If you have any stocking stuffers ideas for them, let me know! Trying to find small, thoughtful things that aren't crap is so hard,
I know, it's tough.

Sometimes living out in the exurbs is a hoot. Already this morning on Facebook I have seen 1) a pic from a parking lot what looked like a goat in the front seat of a parked car -- turned out to be a mounted/taxidermied mountain goat that was being transported and 2) someone asking if anybody knew the two horses who had turned up and are grazing in her front yard.
