I was wondering if anyone was having a rough go of the flu and Covid shot at the same time. Sounds like it! I have to schedule mine. Covid shot has crushed me each time so trying to plan accordingly!
We got both at the same time last Sunday, and Monday was not great. We were functioning, but barely. But I’m glad we got it over with, and scheduling vaccinations is such a pain that it made sense to do it at once. If I had to do it again, I’d do it on the day before I had nothing scheduled (like maybe a Saturday if I could just lay around on Sunday).
C had a great time at the football game with his friend yesterday! They’re both only children, so these outings are much more fun for everyone if they bring a friend. It was basically a blowout and lots of seats opened up toward the end, so the boys were able to go to seats down in front and they got on the Jumbotron twice (which is a big deal if you’re 9).

court26 liking in solidarity. I think what really helps is just watching your kid from where they start to where they progress individually and remove the focus off of where they stand against competitors or teammates. Much more fun that way.
Also, random but did you end up buying a house? If so how is that going?
I had a last-minute girls night out with a few friends and it was fun. We were originally planning to all see each other at the HS football game, but it was rainy and cold, and since none of us have varsity players, we decided to go out for a drink and apps instead.
DS's fever was in the 103 range for a couple of hours yesterday, so that was a bit scary (although he was coherent - if he had gotten lethargic or incoherent I would've taken him to urgent care or ER). I was trying to hold off on giving him ibuprofen to let his body temp kill off whatever virus it was, but after a couple of hours of it being that high, I have him an Advil and had him take a warm bath with epsom salts. That seemed to help, because his fever went down to 100, and his temp is almost back to normal today.
Is “killing off” a virus through fever really a thing? Seems like it would be better to alternate ibuprofen and Tylenol and keep his fever down.

Yes. Fever is the symptom of a body fighting and as long as someone is tolerating the fever, it’s recommended to let the body do it. Also the height of the fever isn’t always that concerning as the rate at which it rises, which tends to lead to the febrile seizures.
The wedding was fun! DH and I enjoyed a night out with no kid or dog! The DJ was a little odd, but one of the groomsmen got him playing some better stuff. I can’t remember the last time we got this dressed up for anything.
I think we’ll do the pumpkin patch today after we pick them up from my parents.

Our pediatrician says if they have a fever and are feeling the effects of it give them the fever reducer, no need to suffer.

DS, my 82 y/o mom (she actually got three shots) and I all got our Covid boosters and the flu shot at the same time with no ill effects. My flu shot arm was a little sore but that’s it.

Oh hey thanks for the kid comment and for asking about the house. I taught summer school, closed in august and got a puppy so I’m sort of burned out and have been posting even less than normal, but meant to thank everyone for their words of wisdom. My new house is working out really well. The dead end has been great, the sidewalks are nice with the dog…so far so good! Some bigger issues with DD and living 3 houses from a much smaller school she would prefer to be at, but convincing XH has not gone well.

court26 congrats on the new house and dog. You have had a lot of changes. I hope something works out with the new school. 3 houses away and smaller sounds like good points to at least consider.
I was in LA for a concert Friday night at the Hollywood Bowl. It was so fun and we saw a band we saw in HS 20 years ago.
Friend and I decided to do a bougie breakfast at the Beverly Hills hotel. Totally different than the night before but also fun. It was pricy but not as bad as I expected.
As I get older I really need the wake up time before parenting. Waking up to DS(7) needing me immediately is jolting without the hour or so of quiet. It is not my favorite. When I sleep poorly and 'over sleep' or DS wakes up before 7/7:30am my body doesn't get the quiet wake up it prefers and I drag a bit for a few hours. Bodies are weird.
FWIW, I used to be a 10pm-6am sleeper and once I was awake I was awake. I didn't even drink coffee. I was just ready for the day.
Kid 1 is FINALLY, after years and years of me trying to get them to attempt any sport or recreational activity that isn't reading, taking archery lessons. The first one was yesterday, and they had a great time. It was a big group lesson with multiple coaches, all of whom were on the young side and clearly having a lot of fun with the participants. The range is pretty far from our house, but I told Kid 1 on our way home that I couldn't care less so long as they're trying something new and enjoying themselves.
We all got Covid shots yesterday afternoon, and for the first time I don't feel like a pile of garbage the next day. My period is awful so I don't feel good, but it's not from the shot. DS 2 needs to get delivered to a sleepover birthday party at 2:00, and I'd like to get a crock pot dinner going around lunchtime, but other than that I plan to have a quiet day with my knitting and a book.

All the things I bought in the athleta sale showed up. I’m unhappy and I’m never unhappy with athleta? One skirt is way too small, One pair of pants is way too big. The other two things are fine. Athleta needs to get their act together on sizing.
I’m trying to decide if making some small cuts in the elastic of the skirt would loosen it a bit or ruin everything. I wore the skirt but it was too snug to be comfy.

Sometimes a 3 day weekend with a toddler feels endless in a bad way, and sometimes you take the bus together to the big supermarket, and it's all a grand adventure, and you're reminded that your kid is pretty damn fun.

We just booked our spring break trip (Destin, FL area). This is the first year we will be staying near friends, so both kids are excited. DH and I are also excited that we will be near friends. (It's mostly families from DS's travel baseball team that we have become friends with over the years.)
6AM on a sunday is apparently the best time to go to the ER. Had another thrombosed hemorrhoid removed this AM. 5 SHOTS IN MY BOOTY HOLE - I tried so hard not to scream but by shot #4 I couldn't help it.
Now I'm sitting at home, looking around at all the little projects that need to be completed but I cannot do right now.

We got in around 130 am after getting up at 5 am. We were so exhausted we didn’t unload the car. When I got up at 10 is when I realized DS never took off his shoes and was still fully dressed😂
We ran to grab a few groceries and some takeout. Came home to a large puddle of oil where H parks. His car had zero oil in it. Now we are waiting on my brother to come take a look.

Our pediatrician says if they have a fever and are feeling the effects of it give them the fever reducer, no need to suffer.
Ours always says to medicate the symptoms and not the fever. So if they are hanging in there and happy you should let the fever be. If they are miserable you should medicate.
We tend to medicate around bed time so they can sleep better as the best thing for illness is rest and it’s hard to rest when you’re miserable but other times we let it be.
I have a German Shepherd and for most of the time it has felt like I left the door open and a wild animal got in. He's 3.5 and I don't want to jinx it, but he might be getting just a little bit cuddly. We are in the mountains for a 4 day weekend and he actually took a little nap in bed with me ( he prefers hard surfaces for sleeping, because of course he does). I have so missed cuddling with the cat I had for 16 years! Today I took him for a long walk and he didn't make me regret every second of it AND he just laid on the couch with his head in my lap in front of the fire. I was so thrilled! He is beautiful, with long hair, velvety ears and deep floof you can lose your hand in. Cuddle with me!! LOL

My dog is so well behaved and great with the kids in almost every situation, except for the couch. When she was allowed on the couch with the family, she would growl at the kids. So she's banished to the floor and I can snuggle with her.
It pisses me off so much because I wanted to snuggle with her!!
After the latest post-tropical storm blew through, this actually turned into a nice day, so we took the dog and kids to an apple picking farm. We also got some pumpkins and completed a corn maze for free ice cream. The maze paths on one end were super muddy due to the storm, which led to a lot of cheating by cutting across rows to avoid the puddles (us included). I got apple pie ice cream which was delicious. I don’t know why they don’t put pie ingredients in ice cream more often.
I have a speech to write and it’s kind of ruining my downtime this weekend thinking about it. This will be the first speech I’ve written since the 90s! I’m a better writer now but still I worry if I’m good enough.
My dad passed away a month ago. Last night I was on the phone with my brother working on funeral stuff (it's the end of this month) and he's like "we'll get you the death certificate so you can cash your savings bonds" My what? Apparently he had a few thousand dollars worth of savings bonds my dad bought in the 80's and I'm supposed to have them also. But I don't. And he also got some from my aunt who died 11 years ago. But I don't. So I messaged my mom (aunt's sister but divorced from my dad) and she was like "oh I just assumed they gave them to you". I always knew I was the 2nd favorite, but dang.
Yikes, that sucks. Having your feelings confirmed postmortem when there’s nothing you can do but just sit with it. :/ sorry
We spent a night at my brother’s lake house and had a great time. We had a pumpkin farm practically to ourselves! I learned that I can handle a corn maze for precisely eleven minutes and then I freak the F out and start contemplating running through the actual corn to find a way out. It took 19 minutes in total, but those last eight felt like an hour. I have never actually cut pumpkins off the vine before, so that was fun! Today we went to a really cool park that is actually four separate playgrounds, a waterfall, a carousel, swan boats and mini golf!
I wish the entire world could have these same care-free, fun weekends. Thinking about our lives vs. those injured, kidnapped or killed this weekend this weekend in the various attacks (Israel, Palestine, Ukraine) makes me so sad that the world is the way it is.
