I'm proud of my Pinterest inspired valentines, so wanted to share. DS did all the cutting and taping himself, so all things considered they came out really good!
Yesterday's snow day threw me off and I forgot that today was Valentine's Day until 4am. So I woke up and put DD's gift (we usually don't do gifts but awhile back she asked for a necklace to match mine) in the bathroom and wrote on the mirror w/lipstick.
I won tix to the Frozen Broadway tour so it's going to be a late night but I'm looking forward to the show.
We aren't allowed to gift candy for Valentine's at A's school (which I learned AFTER I bought the candy), so I'm looking forward to 20 pieces of plastic crap I'll throw away in 3 months when I find it under a couch.
We made a snowman yesterday and dyed it pink and made her some heart eyes. It looks so festive in the yard, lol.

I got invited to a meeting last minute - that I should have been invited to before, but someone messed up - and on top of that was asked for the latest version of a presentation that I sent 9 days ago to absolutely zero feedback. That's it, that's the latest version, if you wanted changes you should have said so! This also left me with only 1 hour instead of 2 hours to write something for the other meeting I already had scheduled.
I am now listening to 90s rap to manage my annoyance while trying to write about fancy sparkling wine. This could be interesting.
DH and I snuck out Sunday evening to the pretty inn on the river for a quiet dinner without DS or my mom. DS is working tonight, so DH and I will take my widowed mom out for a nice lunch.
Yesterday's snow came at the worst time, ugh. Mom was supposed to have some bloodwork and an echo during the peak of the storm. I was able to reschedule for next Friday but was anxious to find out if her CHF is progressing. It probably won't change anything.
I forgot it was Valentine's day... that explains why the cafe was packed first thing when I ran out for a chai.
I logged in to work at 7am and found out my coworker messaged me in the middle of the night accusing me of thinking he is bad at his job because of a sarcastic comment I made in our team chat yesterday afternoon. It was in no way personal and I feel terribly that he took it that way. On the other hand, he has said some incredibly shitty and hurtful things to me and has never apologized, so maybe I shouldn't feel too badly...

Today would have been my 10 year wedding anniversary. The crazy thing is, I'm not even sad. ExH made every single holiday absolutely miserable, including our anniversaries, so I'm actually looking forward to actually having a happy Valentine's Day with my kids.
I did a boudoir photo shoot for Valentine's day and made an album to give to DH. He had to leave early this morning for a work trip, so last minute I threw it in his backpack for him to open when he gets to his destination. I keep having a panic attack that it somehow got flagged at security and the TSA agents are thumbing through the album and having a grand ol' time at my expense. Perhaps I should have given it to him last night, lol.
I forgot it was Valentine’s until a coworker made a comment on chat this morning lol. We don’t do anything to celebrate. We used to go out to dinner but everything here is so crowded and slow. I think H is going to pick up a couple candy apples from Rocky Mountain as a treat tonight and I’m looking forward to that.
We quickly filled out names and taped our valentines shut this morning. DS is coloring more pictures for his 100 days art project. I need to get dressed and get us out the door.

I got FI a beef jerky sampler from Man Crate, he really enjoyed it. The packaging is all really nice, so I'll be ordering from them again. FI's daughter and I are going out for Mexican food tonight.

Today is Valentine's Day, my baby girl's 2nd birthday, and Ash Wednesday (I'm not Catholic anymore, but I work at a Catholic school). So I will be celebrating my baby girl and love while contemplating my sins and mortality.

I left DH some candy and a card on his desk before I left for work. I don't think he has/will get me anything, which is fine. I am the gift giver in our relationship.
Some of my coworkers brought in little snacks for V-day like mini muffins, a tray of cookies and some coffee from Dunkin'. One of them brought....baked beans. And she proceeded to chop up raw hot dogs in the kitchen and throw them in a big pan with bacon. And now she's baking it in the oven (my office has a full kitchen). Don't think I'll be having any of that...

Just another day here. SO is pretty anti-Valentine's Day, which is fine - he was up front about it when we first got together, and I don't really care because he's one of those guys who brings home flowers every other month "just because".

We took the kids to Frozen in the fall and it was *awesome*!!! Enjoy! It is a great show and the special effects were really cool!
I've always been anti-Valentine's Day and my H knows it (since before we started dating). I never get him anything. He got me flowers (after I specifically asked him not to) and I got mad at him. One of our issues is that he never actually listens to me, so it set me off. I feel like getting me flowers is more about what he wants me to want than what I actually want. What do I actually want? How about hire a babysitter for once like I've asked him to a hundred times but never happens unless I do it? Or a massage, I'd also take that. UGH. I feel bad that I'm mad about all this stuff but its been simmering for a while. I also am sick of flowers because he buys them but then I have to arrange them and take care of them and it is literally another living thing I have to worry about and I'm already at capacity for taking care of things.
Does this make me a jerk?
On the other hand, I love doing special things for my kids. I didn't have much time this AM but I cut their toast into hearts and gave them big hugs. I should run out and get them something little, although they'll probably come home with bags of candy/crap from the school parties today.

This is cracking me up, so random!
Me too! Nothing says Happy Valentine's Day like a pan of baked franks and beans.
sproctopus Our district moved to the no-candy policy a few years ago and I hate it. Such bullshit excuses too..."oh, bc allergies" or "follow state nutrition guidelines". Ma'am, have you seen the school lunches? Oh yea, tater tots and nuggets. Solid. I don't see why we can give candy, and they just say "but don't eat it in class". Whatever. I had exactly enough plastic heart-crazy-straws left from DD's class valentines years ago, so I printed out new tags and that's what DS took. I'm happy/sad that we only have a couple more years of doing this.
I got the kids each a squishmellow, a small lego set, and a chocolate thing for V-Day. They were excited for the surprise.
I was very surprise that DH got me something - we don't do gifts for today, usually. He got me a FlexiHose with a sprayer. I've been bitching about how leaky our garden hose is, and the sprayer broke last time I was cleaning out the liter box. So, really, the very best part of the gift is that he was listening to the little things.
No V-day plans here. H and I went to a charity auction that my students hosted over the weekend, and we bought ourselves a few nice things at the auction, so that’s counting as our gifts to each other.
I love Valentine's Day. I'm a sucker for any holiday really, and I'm passing it on to DD1. She's SO into holidays and I just love it. My grandma used to have little parties for all of the grandkids to do holiday crafts and things, and I like to think I'm passing on that tradition.
I definitely did NOT think about breakfast before this morning though, whoops. Quickly cut out some heart shaped toast and strawberries and she was thrilled, whew. I got the girls all matching dresses and they look so cute. I'll be sad when they don't want to match anymore!
Tonight is our annual tradition of homemade heart shaped pizza, chocolate covered strawberries, and watching When Harry Met Sally after the kids are in bed. H and I just got each other a heart shaped box of Reeses, it made me laugh that we both had the exact same idea.
mel, that is so spicy and I love it! Good for you!
S woke us up so sweet this morning with "happy valentines day" kisses. He even came out and gave the kitty a happy valentine's day hug. It was so cute.
In theory, I wouldn't mind being a pinterest mom but I lack patience, time, artistic ability, and on and on. I didn't realize valentine's boxes were so over the top- scrolling through Facebook there's a Titanic model, 18" Lombardi trophy, an 18" bottle of prime. I am shocked because my area is pretty low key (like, these parents don't show off massive piles of Xmas presents as a comparison). Me and my kid are content with a spray painted shoe box with a construction paper huggy wuggy face glued on. What happenedto coloring a brown paper bag [/shakes cane]

My kid took her last shoe box, taped scraps of paper to it and then put stickers all over it. Her Valentine's are little handwritten notes with suckers taped on. This is her preference and I'm all for it. It's also her last year of elementary.
H and I don't really do Valentine's Day. I ran to Wegmans this morning to grab a few things and picked up some chocolate covered strawberries for all of us for dessert tonight. I was going to make homemade pizza in a heart shape, but H said he's been in the mood for pasta, so I'm making like a chicken fettucine alfredo but with a lighter wine/cream sauce. Wegmans was a zoo with guys buying flowers and chocolates and it's kind of sweet. Though, I would not be happy with H if he spent $$$ on flowers.
DS is home "sick" from school today. He's been complaining of a sore throat for 2 days and this morning he said he slept terrible and just felt awful. Who knows if he's faking it. No fever and his throat doesn't look bad, though it's hard to tell. I told him if he stays home today that's it for the semester unless he's really sick. I feel like he pulls this BS every few weeks.

So random LOL I'd be tempted to say something along the lines of "is this for us or are you going to a picnic after work and it was easier to prepare here?"
I enjoy any excuse to get cake and candy and have fun in February! I had planned to get cupcakes at the fancy cupcake bakery but the “festive” flavors were the same to the ones they had for NYE when we had them last. The bakery is too far to go if we aren’t excited about the flavors.
I had switched to baking something myself but the migraine yesterday really wiped me out.
Maybe the old fashioned bakery near us will have something you didn’t need to order ahead? Valentine’s Day without a baked good sounds sad.
For dinner we are making risotto and scallops which should be tasty! My husband wants to make some antipasto platter too.

Are the parents in your area frustrated former arts majors?? Wow! That’s a lot.
H went to the store last night and came back with m&ms for DS' classmates, dove dark chocolate for me and some licorice thing for himself. As he unpacked the grocery bag at 9:30pm he said happy Valentine's Day to us.
I'm starting out my day with a trip to the dentist but work should be fun. I have Valentine stickers for all my small reading group students. I love my job. It's fulfilling, engaging and I look forward to going every day.
I am a recovering Pinterest mom. I went really hard from newborn to about 7, then burned out just in time for my kid not to remember any effort I put in.
