And this is another example of why speculation of medical issues is disgusting! That is my hill, I don't care who it is.
Exactly. I am so pissed at everyone speculating and making this about them. The Wales are going through a major thing right now, leave them the F alone.
This is my first time even opening this thread because I didn’t want to be part of it.

I’m just musing out loud about Charles’ cancer given the timing. I don’t seriously believe they are lying about him. I hate that Kate was forced to make it public before she was ready, if she ever planned to. I hope that her prognosis is good and she’ll recover. Fuck cancer indeed.

I think they got good PR managers who knew that would happen on a global scale after it all went to hell.
If it's that "easy" (essentially doing what Charles II, who is liked infinitely less than the Princess of Wales, did weeks ago), What's with the weirdness this whole time?

Again, I will not be dying on this hill.
You know you can also just not climb the hill instead of saying this stuff and announcing how you're not going to defend it, right?
Not what I was expecting but I can understand keeping everything quiet until they knew exactly what’s going on and tell the kids on their own timeline.
Continuing to speculate about them lying feels weird now. Having 2 people in a family with cancer isn’t crazy. I’ve had more than that in my family.
I haven’t been in this thread til now but I will say I don’t believe there should be a monarchy anymore in the form they are, but when people kept speculating about Kate I felt really bad for her because it had to have been something not good, whether health or with her H and I can’t imagine having everyone talking about it while trying to protect my kids. People are ruthless in their fight to get other peoples info for gossip.

They have 3 young kids. Regardless of their part in the BRF, they are still people. What do you want them to do? You honestly think they would lie about having cancer and put their children through that?

I feel disgusted that she was basically bullied into making a health announcement she may or may not have been ready for. People should have the right to medical privacy whether they are me, you or the damn Queen of England (or princess as the case may be). My God.

Awful.
I don't know how royals stuff works so please don't come at me with specifics of working royals & public obligations bc I have no idea, but as this whole thing has been playing out I've been thinking of how crappy it feels to feel crappy...like the speculation on what type of surgery and how long recovery "should" be. I had a health thing that was no where near cancer about 1.5 years ago (did include tests for cancer indicators) and I felt awful and did not want to do much of anything and interact. It brought me way down- not just physically feeling sick, but the anxiety of what's going on, and the exhaustion everything caused. If I could have checked out of interacting with people for awhile, including time off from work, I would have, just to fully rest and focus on my health and my family. And to be able to go out when i was feeling up to it without people judging my illness vs energy level vs how i looked. With the princess I feel like it shouldn't matter what medical thing was going on (from a whole spectrum of things), if she could give herself that space why do we have to judge how she should be feeling or looking regardless of the actual diagnosis? I get that people in public will be judged, but the comments about how long until she was back to work or how quickly she was walking are ick (even/especially pre-this announcement). "Oh she just had this x,y,z surgery the recovery time for that is this many weeks so why isn't she back to work?!" Uhhh bc everyone's situations can be different? She might still not feel good? She might want time to reflect on what she was going through?

Absolutely not, I don't think they'd lie to their kids. They, too, are part of The Firm.
Whatever ailment she has (cancer, colostomy bag, stubbed toe) I wish her a quick recovery. She'll have access to excellent medical care, and she's young and fit. And the future queen of England. I trust she's in good hands.

Because getting a cancer diagnosis majorly fucks with your head and emotions, and NO ONE, not even a public figure, should be forced to have to make an announcement about their health. It's nobody's business but theirs.

Also have some of you never known someone with cancer? The path to a diagnosis is not always linear. My friend’s fil was diagnosed with cancer recently it was some time before they had a really definitive diagnosis. First maybe you don’t feel well then you have some testing done and then maybe some different testing and then you need to do more testing to stage it and then huh maybe you have something going on over here so it’s not exactly what we originally thought so we need some more testing. He probably took six weeks to get a full picture of what he was dealing with. Obviously she’s not a layperson, but it might have taken a minute to get the diagnosis, then process, then tell the family and then tell the kids. It doesn’t surprise me at all that it took a few weeks for them to put things together before making a public announcement. I wish her all the best. Regardless of what I feel about the institution of the monarchy, she’s a mom and a public figure and it has to be so difficult. And William must be having major ptsd, again whether you think he’s a good person or not he has lived through some trauma and I’m sure this is really triggering for him.

Their kids aren’t that little anymore. The oldest is 10. They go to school. Kids talk. If the rumors are “Kate’s hiding at her mom’s house!” or other nonsense the kids can KNOW is not true, it doesn’t matter. They know the truth. But “I heard your mom has cancer” is SUPER scary to a kid. No doubt Kate & William knew what people would be saying, and decided it was better to let ridiculous rumors fly in order to protect their children. I don’t blame them.

Charles is 75 years old, the monarch, and obviously not in peak health.
Kate is 42, seemingly fit and healthy, the wife of a man who lost his own mother far too young, and the mother of 3 young children who did not ask to be born into the fishbowl they live in.
If you can’t see that these situations are different then I don’t know what to tell you. Other than, now and forever, go fuck yourself.
Why the fuck didn't they just say she had cancer?!?! Charles just said he had cancer. This is not like, some terrible scandal they needed 2 months to fix.
When I had cancer, I didn't EVER announce it publicly, throughout my entire treatment. Only over a year later did I start quietly mentioning that I'd been diagnosed, had surgery and done treatment. I could barely accept I was living this nightmare let alone deal with everyone else's feelings on the matter.
It's not a *scandal* but not everyone wants their entire health story known and disected. Especially since people turn the narrative of cancer so easily. 🙄
I DD’d your details in case you didn’t want that out there.
But ITA. I had a recent health scare that I’m still keeping private because of lack of conclusive answers and the amount of speculation that spread is exhausting. And I’m a nobody and it’s nothing even remotely like cancer.
FFS. The BRF's PR team is run by clowns, but they aren't going to lie about the Princess having cancer to cover up [insert other conspiracy theory here], or to distract from the King having cancer too.

Not on the same level as a cancer diagnosis by any means, but DS2 was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes May of 2022. I can count on two hands the number of people who know. Some things are too hard to deal with in the public eye, let alone on her level.

So you think a 10yo, 8yo, and 4yo (or whatever their ages are) are all in on the secret? They've been told, "Hey, Mum's fine, but we're going to tell the whole world she has cancer! And you've gotta go along with it!" ??

I don't understand this reaction, either. No, it's nothing that needs to be "fixed," but geez, let the woman and her family have some time to process the information before sharing it with the world.

How wild to be so visible that you have to give an attaboy to others undergoing treatments in a video that you made to let the public know you are undergoing cancer treatments.
I’m not a royal watcher (merica!) but it’s always a shame when someone has cancer. Unless you’re Rush Limbaugh, that one was fab.
I know I've been super active in this thread but was mostly enjoying the absurdity of wild speculation and incompetent royal staff. I didn't think she needed to disclose the actual diagnosis. I'm sure the rampant rumors were an extra stress for her in the midst of this.
As far as disclosing diagnosis earlier- one PP touched on it. Per BBC, presurgery the cause was thought to be benign. The diagnosis came weeks later when the biopsy came back- the same day William pulled out of the memorial service.
