OMG our school just sent out a message today that they are having a half day on Monday for the eclipse. Thankfully my kids have reached an age now where it's fine, but... oof. to be fair, the window for the eclipse is during dismissal, and I was surprised that they would assume the liability of a bunch of unsupervised kids on a bus staring at the sun. So it's probably for the best. I'm just surprised that they just now realized this.
Our PTO is supplying eclipse glasses for release time. All PE and recess is indoors.
Started my day by stepping out of the shower to a mini lake on the bathroom floor. Some leak from the shower that I have no clue where it is coming from.
My day only went down hill from there.
It's 5:15PM and I am already on my 2nd beer. No shame.
I was on vacation last week and I saw a girl in a really cute cover up so I took a picture of her and reverse google image searched it and it turns out it was from Target in a past year, but I found it on Poshmark for $12 shipped and I love it. My stalker skills have paid off.
We need a pic!
I am still mad I didn't ask a fellow mom about a dress she had on at last year's recital. I have never been able to find the same one.
It was such a spur of the moment idea to just snap her pic but it worked out well. She was too far and it would have been weird to stop her and ask. LOL. Thanks, stranger!

Went on a food tour in Lisbon. Holy moly. It lasted 5 hours! Best tour ever!
This must have been heaven!! Tell me everything! What did you eat and where???
I couldn't tell you the names of all the places, but these are the ones i noted - Ginjinha Sem Rival Eduardino, Manteigaria Silva, Tendinha, Ginjinha Popular. What we ate were: black pork, cheese with quince jelly, cod cakes, samosa, pork sandwich, pasteis de nata. We drank port, red wine, beer, ginja.
Has anyone seen the (many many) news stories about the cruise passengers who were left behind in Africa when they didn't return to port on time?
If so, can you explain to me why this story is blowing up?
I have never (and probably never will) cruised, but even I know that the boat doesn't wait for you when you are off shore. I'm reading comments that apparently they *do* wait if you've done a cruise-sponsored tour, but these folks were not on a cruise-provided excursion.
Does one of them have a friend in the media??? Why am I seeing this on at least 3 different media outlets? It seems like it wouldn't be that uncommon? I'm confused.
It’s totally weird it’s blown up since it’s not the cruise line that did anything wrong. I’m not a cruise expert (I’ve only been on 1 and that was 15 years ago) but they make it very clear that if you go on your own excursion you are taking the risk of the ship not being there if you are late. Sure, the ship was there but it’s like an airplane - once the cabin door is closed you’re out of luck - even if you’re standing at the gate. Plus, I’m sure there are tight timelines of other ships coming and the fines of not leaving when needed would be huge for the cruise line. Not to mention the 100’s/1000’s of people who were on the ship and ready to go.
One family cruise we used the ship's contracted ferry for their excursions to get to another port, but we did our own traveling from there. The ferry was absurdly slow and returned everyone to the ship about an hour late. We knew they wouldn't leave without 100 pax on their excursions, but they apparently kept announcing our names to report to the tour desk which really freaked my grandparents out. We had a good laugh over dinner about it, but it was certainly stressful for a time.
Ships keep your passports, and apparently they returned them to port authorities so that the idiot guests could try to travel to catch up with the ship. It's not uncommon for guests to meet a ship after initial embarkation. So other than mental stress and finances, it's not a major incident to the global community.
These people are dumber than I initially assumed given their medical and mobility concerns. But it also seems there were some unlucky series of events.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

Ours did the same thing about halfway through the day yesterday after crickets about the eclipse up until then. I had been waiting for them to say SOMETHING about any plans whatsoever since all our dismissal times are during the eclipse period and we are able to see about 97% totality.
I'm in the office today. I broke down over the weekend and bought a new pair of jeans without trying them on and of course they are too tight, so I'm sitting at my desk with the button undone. Hopefully I don't forget next time I have to stand up.
I can't vouch for this trick but a rubber band through the button hole maybe can help you feel less....open?
