We made a last minute decision to drive to Metropolis. It was a bad one. We have been in the car 2 hours and just hit the KY line. It should have taken 45 min. We were about to abort and turn around at the next exit. That’s when we crossed paths with TDOT that has the interstate down to one lane! They are filling potholes. 🤦🏻♀️ we are now going 70 mph and back on track.
I feel like I should be doing more. I homeschool, FFS. I just can't get it up for this, though, but I know I should because it's a Big Deal Educational Experience.
We have glasses, and will probably grill out (we live in 99%). We've read a few articles and might watch a book reading or short documentary this weekend.
I think I'm just burned out right now. But that shouldn't affect my kids' experience, so I'm trying to muster up some excitement.
Same. We are only supposed to get about 50% but neither of my kids seem to care and neither do I to be honest.
If we were in the path of totality I might make more effort. But they also remember the 2017 eclipse so they have a good understanding of what’s happening. Not everything has to be a thing. Let yourself off the hook
Totality here (Dallas). Traffic was nonexistent this morning and the parking garage was half-empty. It's cloudy so the whole thing might be a bust. I have glasses and I'll go outside at the designated time but I'm not sure it will be all that interesting. Both kids are supposed to have eclipse parties/activities at school so I just hope they're not disappointed.
My friend planned to come over this morning to paint my fireplace (he is super excited for this… I’m like whatever lol). Anyway, he was going to come at 11, and then, at 10:30 he was all “Holyshit, we are almost 90%. Can I come over this afternoon instead? You live around rich people and a park. Someone will have a telescope there” 🤣
I planned ahead and had two pairs of glasses for this.
I just opened my eclipse glasses, tried them on, and was surprised when I couldn't see anything. Then I immediately felt stupid for not realizing that glasses intended for looking at the sun are ridiculously dark.
I think we’ll get ~85% here. I work in a back office role at a high school and I’m hoping to sneak out and go home a little early while all the students and staff are gathered in the stadium to watch the eclipse.
It is soooooo incredibly cloudy here (we’re in totality). I cant even see a hint of the sun at all right now. We’ll see how things are in another couple hours but it’s not looking good. I can’t imagine traveling for the eclipse and relying on decent weather, especially here!

This is what I keep saying. I would never plan an entire trip around something easily ruined by the weather (not judging, just stating personal opinion). I am so unlucky with weather. LOL
It's beautiful here and we should have a nice show today in 88.5% land.

that would be my concern.
In a similar note, my sons school has a Senior Sunrise on the first day of school every year and there was not even a single ray of light. lol
They have a Senior sunset on the last day! Hope it's better weather.
It's super clear here right now (99.1 percent) and I feel bad for anyone driving south. My boss just gave me a pair of glasses so my super chill no-plan eclipse day is coming together nicely.

That's a sweet tradition (if the weather holds out!--lol)!

I have glasses but we are in south Florida where it will be nbd. I wish I had tried educating my kids a bit more because it is cool, but they have school today like a normal day. I just read an optometrist warning that you should not even consider looking up with certified glasses so 🤷♀️
We are in the Path of Totality & lots of cloud cover. Oh well.
My office is closed, I pulled DD from school (scheduled 1/2 day), and H took the day off. We drove about 45 minutes north to get the best view in a park with lots of fun happenings - music, food, people, etc. I was worried about traffic and parking, so we arrived early & with a cooler packed with food including Milky Way bars, Starbursts, and half moon cookies.
It’s been a fun day in the park anyway. I can see the sun. I wonder what the next hour will bring.
I feel like I’m the only one excited about it in my house. DH is at work but he’ll be outside and didn’t take the glasses. I told him not to look at the sun! We are only 55% totality but it’s still cool to see. The peak is 11:11 and I will be making a wish! I sent DS2 to school with glasses but it’s the first day back from spring break and the school didn’t say if they are doing anything for it. DS1 is home sick so I’m glad he gets to see it with me before I take him to a Dr appt.
Ok Thanks! I had 1 patient scheduled for now and I called her and she said she didn’t want to come outside with all this eclipse craziness happening lol. So she rescheduled for later in the week. So now I’m free till 3:30
The office I’m in today has a window and I’m looking outside at people and it looks like I’ll be the only one with eclipse glasses on lol.
The heaviest thickets cloud cover ever. Not a single break. Blah! At least I’ll get totality darkness but don’t think I’ll see anything of the sun at all. It’s especially annoying because yesterday was the clearest sunniest day!

same. It was a bust. (we were at 99%.) It was neat to see it get dark, I guess.

Ok Im outside. There are a few people standing here on the street with me haha. Perfect spot/view. It is pretty cool and I’m all for any reason to celebrate but I would not fly/drive hundreds of thousands of miles for this haha. I’ll go back inside shortly!

We are not in totality but we have a beautiful clear day and our daughter saved our glasses from 2017 when we went to the in laws for totality. So it's been fun to go in the backyard and look up and check out the funky shadows. She got to leave HS early and DH came up to look between conference calls.
It’s really cloudy here (I think we’re supposed to get to around 90% coverage where I am), so I can’t see anything other than the fact that it’s been getting darker. It’s also gotten MUCH more chilly over the last 30-40 min. It’s the warmest day we’ve had in months, so I’d really love for this to pass so it warms up again! I’d be more patient about the temp if I could see the eclipse, but thanks to the cloud cover, no such luck there. What a bust.

We are at around 94% totality outside of Chicago. There is not a cloud in the sky today so I got a good view. It got noticeably darker outside, which was cool and I came back in the house just after the 94% time and the house was very dark inside. I had to turn on a few lamps.
It beautiful here and though I'm only 88.5% mother nature put on a good show. I spur of the moment walked over to my kid's school and watched it with his class. He was surprised and it was nice. Also team would not fly for this event. LOL
H made a low-tech shadow viewer by cutting a hole in a piece of paper. That was pretty nifty, and eventually it intrigued a stranger enough that they lent us their glasses for a moment (which I think was his ultimate goal, haha).
