This takes me back to the thread where people hear stories or thoughts in their heads all the time. I cannot imagine knowing the # of steps on a staircase.

SS- I can tell you how many stairs go to my work because I work with preschoolers and they like to count them. I do not know how many steps are in my house.

DS can tell you every time. He is hyper aware of it. I have no clue. DD and I always find it interesting when DS randomly tells us a story about walking in a new building and the layout including staircases.
I'm an insomniac and still have memorized the number of steps (13) in our house in Texas that we sold over a decade ago because the bedrooms were upstairs and the kitchen was downstairs. Every other house we've lived in had the laundry downstairs, and while I count those stairs when I'm carrying a basket I couldn't tell you off the top of my head how many stairs there are.
Home: 13 Library: 27 Store A: 25 Store B: 26 (I get annoyed every time I go here because the stairs end on an even number)
To mailbox and back: 200-215 (depends on if I cut corners or not)
I also count steps walking into and out of stores. It's just a constant count running in the background of my mind whether or not anyone is talking to me. It started in undergrad, which was decades ago now. I can't remember the number of stairs but I do remember the number of flights to get to different classes.
The count is louder when I'm stressed, and sometimes I find myself tuning out anyone talking to me to focus on the numbers.
I think we might have 13 at home, but I wouldn't bet on it. We replaced our stairs a couple of years ago, so I definitely had to count them and know the number at the time to get quotes, but I also have an exceptional ability to forget specific numbers. My brain just won't retain this information.
I did in my childhood home and my grandparents’ home because I counted everything as a kid and those were the two places I spent the most time. Now, no. I couldn’t tell you how many are in my own house.
Only occasionally. We used to have 144 stairs from the school to the street, then 22 stairs from the street to my house. I had to walk them 4x every day. Yes I counted lol!
I don't. I do count them any time I use stairs. I've been taking the same ones from the 1st to 2nd floor of my office for over 10 years and I sill couldn't tell you how many there are even though I count them EVERY TIME
No, beyond the two steps front and back of the house.
I am strangely intrigued by dull polls where the stakes are low. But especially when they’re about thoughts/behaviors that I’d feel weird about asking in real life.
