So I initially said no, but I actually do know that my basement steps have 16 because I built them alongside my dad and stained and sealed every single one.
Otherwise I wouldn’t know, nor do I count them (or any steps).
I count them everywhere I go but don’t remember/catalog them in my head. I count a lot of things though. Street lights, telephone poles, the reflector lights on the road lines. Or if I’m not actively counting them in my head, I’m kind of hopping from one to the next, noticing each one. Sometimes I have to force myself to stop if I’m the driver because I feel like I get into a trance with it.

I asked my kids this yesterday and immediately my 7 yo DD said “yes, 13!” 🤯🤯 DS (11) is like me and doesn’t count, although he was skeptical of DD’s number because he said he goes up the stairs by 2 and there are an even number. Anyway, this again really surprised me.

I'm a counter, not consciously, but I'll realize midway through I've kept track. But, it also doesn't stick in my memory. It happens with all sorts of things. Interupt me while I'm stirring, and chances are a number will come out.
I probably would if I didn't always lose my spot while counting and not focusing. "1, 2, 3, 4, 4, no 5, 6, 7, 6, wait didn't I just count 6? 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 1, 2, why did I just start over?..."
Me, no. DH - 100% he could tell you the number of stairs to just about every place we go to frequently. DD1 (16, miniature version of her dad) 100% knows how many stairs are in our house. She is also taking aritecture courses, so this kind of stuff fascinates her. It would never even dawn on me to count stairs.
