Just the validation that I'm not crazy that this irritates me makes me feel better! I know a lot of this is his untreated ADHD, but still. Since I've posted this he's called me into his office asking what to pack for a trip next week, how long to cook chicken in the air fryer and something else I can't remember, the insanity must stop!
Another option is going to a joint work space type thing once a week or so, but I like being home generally just not like this.
Look. I have untreated adhd as well and am not like this. He is like this because he is allowed to be. Stop entertaining it and enabling his adhd, he is being willfully incompetently helpless. He needs to either get treatment or learn how to cope with it on his own - what he is currently doing isn't tenable.

My mom and I are going to see the New Heights (Kelce brothers) podcast live tonight and I am so excited. I love Jason Kelce so much. They've had to move it to the basketball arena vs the football stadium which is smaller and we have general admission tickets so I'm a little nervous how that's all going to play out but I'm still really excited.

I’d tell him the same thing I tell my kids: I can’t hear you from across the house. I’d ignore until they got up to speak to me. Then I’d work on appropriate times. Honestly I’d wear headphones. ETA: oh just text me. I work outside the house but DH and I text during the day. He’s a teacher so I know there’s times he can’t read/respond. But I can tell him what I need to say and he can read when he has time. I’d tell your DH to just text during the workday that way you can read and respond when you have time and ignore it when you want.

I saw “joint” and thought you were gonna say another option would be to smoke a joint 🤣🤣 Which, maybe in your case might help 😜
Yes, I'm quoting myself. But, update for anyone who cares. I emailed the professor and the dean last night about my issues. The dean replied this morning that he couldn't help me. So I went nuclear, wrote a scathing email, copying everyone I could find, outlining every issue with the class. The dean called me himself and let me know the exam fixed. I take the midterm at 12:30.
I guess he COULD help after all. Asshole.
Right? I'm glad the dean eventually handled it. I've worked at too many places where the highest ranking employee just sends the chain back down "can you fix this?" No, most of the time when it's that escalated the dean or whatever exec SHOULD be aware of these issues. followyourarrow I really hope this gets more attention for the remainder of the class, rather than a temp bandaid right now. And good luck!
WTF to the tuna? I guess I don't travel enough, but how did they even get the food on the plane? I thought you basically couldn't take anything from outside of your house, but maybe I've been duped?
Good luck lavenderblue, I hope it's a good outcome and that they have support for the family (you).
gerberdaisy, team you. I can't focus to save my life, but that doesn't mean I can just interrupt someone else. You shouldn't have to go in the office if you have a WFH option. In a perfect world you WFH to get things done!
I sat in bed for over an hour this am enjoying the sun shining and listening to the birds chip while also looking up ways to keep these birds off of my upper deck. There is a roof over the smaller deck off my bedroom and these little fuckers sit on the roof tresses and shit. The shit then falls onto the floor. Once I put the patio furniture out, I really don't want bird shit all over them.

I attended part of an earth month webinar about upcycling and it was so cool. I never thought to re-use things like (cleaned out) butter containers or other plastic food/water containers for things like planters. I guess it was a good gut check because we recycle and I try to do my part, but there's a lot more I can do.
Sadly I learned too those re-useable plastic bags are actually making more plastic waste because people buy them but then forget them. They buy another bag, or don't use the original reusable bag as long as intended (this said 50 - 100 uses per bag).
We found out yesterday that they've hired a new supervisor in my team, and it's our most senior team member. On one hand it makes sense, they've been here 5+ years, trained the new hires over the last year, reliable employee etc. This person has worked a few different functions/in different depts, and knows our job. On the other hand I think it's going to be awkward for a number of reasons. This person is open about being anti-flexing your schedule when we have to make changes for other salary employees schedules to use less PTO. Dude, I flex a LOT and really can't afford to lose that function for a variety of reasons. I've already tested the waters for next week to go in late, skip lunch and work late, but it's still that gray ask the existing senior boss while HR makes the promotion official.

Update that no one asked for:
The meeting today with the principal, vice principal, and teacher went well for us. Not so much for the teacher. He’s just in a bad spot and out of ideas. Despite my kindness and understanding, he continued to double down and say ridiculous things. At one point, I looked at the P/VP to see if they heard the same thing I did.
In any case, DS felt supported, I feel like the admin will step up their game and support both DS and there teacher better, and I’m quite hopeful for the entire class. Change is needed!!

And I’m guessing that murdering him isn’t an option?
You may just have to be super blunt - come up with whatever you want your boundary to be (eat lunch together and talk then, put a touch base on your calendars, etc) and then literally ignore him the rest of the workday unless there’s a true emergency.

I live on a street next to a school. Someone parks between my house and the neighbors every day and always has a part of the car sticking into my driveway. The entire street has parking so I have no idea why they park there.
Today, while I was leaving, the lady pulled up and parked and was literally blocking half of my driveway. I nicely informed her and asked her why she does that all the time when she has the whole street to park on. Her response: “I don’t like people parking near me”. Ok cool, just keep blocking my driveway, next time I’ll get you towed.
There is a house fire in the neighborhood behind ours, which meant all of the sudden the house smelled like smoke and there were big billows of it coming from nearby. I walked over to see where it was coming from because I'm nosy, and it's a townhouse. That's the scary thing about living in townhouses - not only do you have to worry about your own house burning down, but also the ones next to it. Thankfully it seemed to be contained to one house so far and there were a ton of firefighters, but I imagine the ones on either side will have damage too. I didn't see anyone who looked like they owned the house standing around outside of it (like it was just a bunch of nosy people, nobody who looked like they were in a panic) so I hope that means nobody was home. How scary! I also may now need to shower because I'm pretty sure I smell like smoke.
My dog is at the groomer right now and I miss him. My cat is also apparently hiding somewhere because I haven't seen him since I left with the dog 3 hours ago, so it's like I don't have any pets right now! I feel so bad leaving my dog at the groomer, I know he hates it and he's just a sensitive little guy. I also emailed the vet a video of him breathing weird last night and she said it just looked like panting (lol) so likely nothing to worry about.

ssmjlm, that sucks. I know I say this every time, but how are these people not responding? Do they not need a job? Did your employer take too long to respond? I don't know, I get guilt over withdrawing application if I've gotten as far an interview opportunity.
How long is too long for an appointment. I made an appointment for SS to see a derm. First available mid-July so 3 months. His mom thought it was redic and is looking for another doctor. He’s going for acne treatment. He shared he’s not self-conscious but would like to see a derm, and I was happy to get him in over the summer prior to 10th grade. Is 3 months too long to wait for a non-emergency?

For a non-emergency new patient appointment at a dermatologist, IME this is normal, and even quicker than I've noticed.

Yes. Even though he could wait I'd be wary of a doc that is booked that far out in terms of follow up appts.

This is a valid concern, but IME once you've been established as a patient, it's much easier to get appointments. Especially if it's for follow up treatments. DS2 had very stubborn warts on his knee. Once we got him in, we were able to schedule the monthly follow ups with no issues.
Oh wait. He’s Republican? Maybe not sex toy links then. But come on Dems. We can do better than this.
Well, it's the primary so I'm assuming the other republican is responsible. It says it's paid for by Defendingamericapac.com, which just links to a full commercial on, uh, the same theme, with no information about who the pac is or what they stand for.
Houck is an objectively terrible person, so the fact that they are campaigning against him with this info, and not, oh, say, the fact that he was charged with assaulting a 70 year old planned parenthood volunteer, supports the theory that it's the R opponent.
(Also he has 7 kids. WHEN WOULD HE HAVE THE TIME??)
Has anyone done an online EdD in Higher Ed program? At this point in my life/career, I don't care much about the prestige of school/program. I'm looking for letters after my name, so I'd qualify for an Assistant Dean/faculty role at work.
Quick and cheap. I'd like to be done in 2-3 years. (I have an MSEd already.)
I took my dog in for arthritis meds, and we decided to try a new monoclonal antibody shot that is supposed to work magic. It was $80. And my brain, who has seen bills for cancer-related monoclonal antibodies was like, damn, that’s cheap! Anyway, doctor said it feels like the arthritis is in her knee, based on swelling and stuff. And it was suddenly like, oh, so that’s why she holds her leg out and dangles in when she pees.
This morning, she was squatting with both legs. No dangle!
I am so happy that is appear to be working. Also, that we have something really objective to measure improvement and to trigger the next dose. Since they said it will be every 4-8 weeks, depending on how she feels. And I have something I can see that is clear. Not just “hmm, is she seeming a bit less … something.” She is a Jack russel, so, you know, she is very bouncy and jumpy even when in pain!
We started this shot for my lab last October. She turns 15 on the 21st and it works so well. Our vet said 4-6 weeks and I can tell at about 3.5 weeks that it is starting to wear off. The only problem is to keep her from acting like a crazy puppy because she feels good.

As part of the discussion that DH and I had about retirement recently (as a result of a thread on here, actually!), he offhandedly referred to some friends of ours who recently bought a small working farm and are renting the land and building a small house for their ILs there with the intent that they will all live on one big parcel of land in separate houses. DH was like, Maybe we should buy a farm like N and B!
On a whim I started looking at mid-sized (10+) acre properties in our area on Zillow. And I really love one of them, which happened to previously belong to Robert Duvall, lol. It's almost $4 million and will never happen, but now I'm dreaming about retiring on hobby farm with chickens and beehives and a cozy kitchen with stone walls.

I think some people think that even if a job isn't posted as remote, there is a possibility it is and when we say in the interview invite it isn't, they don't want it.
We're also hiring for a very quick paced office at a level that there are a lot of openings for. So competition is big.

I just tried to reschedule an annual Derm skin check/acne med check-in and they said they're booking in to August so this sadly seems normal. I agree with others that once you're in the system you can get seen a *little* sooner. The NP at my Derm is good too about giving me a secret number to call if I needed a shot in a giant pimple or something. A number to get in faster for a quick treatment.
I'm very annoyed. We asked my (retired) ILs months ago about coming to watch the kids for two nights during the week when we had plans (no pressure since we generally had other options but thought everyone might enjoy it - ILs live 5hrs away and stay with us when visiting). We're 2.5 weeks out today so I had H check to make sure they had the dates and we're all good - they said they're good for the first night but then want to go home and can we find someone else. When were they going to tell us this if we hadn't checked in?!
I already checked with our babysitter and my mom and they're both busy that day. Ugh!
