We upgraded to a Bosch in 2019 - loved it. LOVED IT! It was great.
Then DS was dancing around the kitchen while the dishwasher door was open and well, it couldn’t be repaired. We tried to get a new Bosch, but the lead time was like 12+ months.
We ended up with a Kitchen Aid and I think I love it EVEN MORE than the Bosch. It’s as quiet, cleans and dries as well, but the indicator light it better and I swear it holds more/loads more efficiently.
I just got a new fridge and dishwasher a month ago. I really wanted Bosch but the price tag was too high for me. I ended up getting whirlpool. I wanted a stainless steel tub but I didn’t have the clearance so I had to settle for the plastic tub. The only difference that makes is that it’s slightly louder. I have the silverware tray on top and it cleans well. I don’t remember offhand which one it is, but could look it up if you were interested.
We got this Maytag from Costco and I really like it. Tbh I'd rec anything from Costco because their price includes delivery, installation, and haul away.
I LOVE the third row. I didn't think it would make that big of a difference but I can fit so much stuff because all the coffee cups and cooking utensils go on the 3rd row. It's quiet and cleans well, and the filter is easy to get out. We've had it since March 2022 so not super new, but newer and long enough it hasn't died right away.

I vastly preferred my Miele dishwasher vs the Bosch we have now. I don’t know everyone loves it so much. My dishes don’t fit well, I even had to buy new cutlery that fit in the cutlery rack, my plastics flip over and fill with water. It cleans ok- not perfect by any means.
I would recommend a Miele no question. I don’t know if you can get one for <$1kthough.
ETA- regardless of brand, make sure you get a 3rd rack. It’s a game changer!
We had a repair person out over the summer. He said at this time the only brands that aren’t crap dishwashers are Bosch or Kitchenaid. We ended up not being able to fix our old one and got an open box kitchenaid that we love and my sister has a Bosch that she loves.
Our home came with an Electrolux and we like it just fine. It’s SO quiet that we can’t always tell when it’s running so sometimes we inadvertently open it mid-cycle. I’d love if it had a light or something to show that it’s running. It does have a light that indicates when the cycle is done.
If you have an open floor plan, definitely look into the noise ratings! And if you get a quiet one, I’d recommend looking for features that indicate that it’s running AND that it’s done.
We had a Bosch for three years and loved it. Then something shorted out in it and almost caught fire. There's chared wiring in my basement. Scary. Just out of warenty. Still haven't replaced it but leaning to a kitchenaid.

Oh that’s scary.
Very. It was probably a random thing, no reason to think it's Bosch specifically or will happen to another one, but H doesn't want to go with another Bosch because he doesn't trust them. I double checked the warranty and it may be covered up to 5 years depending on what was wrong with it. But it's a whole thing now and so I'm looking at kitchenaid which are the quietest according to the stats.

When I looked at the Bosch models, I noticed that the bottom spokes are angled so you have to place your dishes in one direction. I like that I can arrange things differently depending on what I have to wash.

Bosch 800 series. It’s quiet, everything comes out super clean, it has 3 racks, it has crystal dry that really does dry nearly everything. Occasionally the random plastic item might still be a little wet.
We also have the Kitchenaid @cereal K linked and it’s great. I don’t know how Kitchenaid and Bosch compare as far as performance and longevity, but I can tell you that the more contoured third rack on the Kitchenaid is wonderful. My mom’s third rack is flatter like the Bosch and she doesn’t get nearly as much use out of it. I can fit extra bowls, mugs, etc on the third rack and it’s great when I need more room in the other racks.
I bought a GE in November and have no major complaints. It cleans well, is super quiet and fits a bunch of stuff. It has a third rack on the top I use for knives and utensils, the middle rack adjusts. I'm not entirely sure which one I bought because the one I wanted was out of stock so the appliance store upgraded me to a better model for the same price. It's similar to this:

Have you found that it ruins your plastics? There was one review about that and because of my kids, we do throw a fair number of plastics in the dishwasher.
We have a Bosch 500 series, bought in 2021 just after we moved into our current house. We've been very happy with it. Someone else mentioned the red light that beams on the floor to show when it is running. Two thumbs up.
We had a Kitchen Aid dishwasher at our last house, which was in the same town/same water muni water supply. Our dishes come out way cleaner with the Bosch.

No, the opposite. Because the heating element is special, you can put plastics on the bottom rack, too. I constantly wash plastics in our Bosch with no issue and they come out much dryer than any other dishwasher previous.
Bosch. I think we went in thinking we'd do the 500 series but opted for 800. Both are over $1000 though Love the red light that shows that it's running because it is QUIET.
We put all our plastic Tupperware, stasher bags, water bottles in the bottom and have no issue. That's been so freeing, lol.
