I don't think all of this :::Waves hands:: will necessarily cause his base to leave him, but I don't think it will make people on the fence decide to vote for him. And I think some of the more moderate conservatives will just stay home which is good.
On another note, my crazy republican aunt posted this on FB yesterday: "Sad day for the Us. We are no linger a democracy"
Once I got over the obnoxious typos I was so angry. Like...what is less democratic than a jury of 12 peers deciding on a court case for a man who literally wanted to stop the peaceful transition of power? How do you explain this to yourself?!?!?!
I know no one here agrees with me. But Iām an independent, Iām a lawyer, and I have been very interested in this trial, and I donāt think justice was served here. There were too many things that happened during the trial that are atypical in my view and they seemed to stack the case very much in favor of the prosecution. I see this trial as election interference; otherwise, the case should have been brought long long ago. I personally think he will win on appeal easily, but you never know.
My point is that many on here think only stupid disgusting people could support him, but I donāt think thatās true. Though you (general you) probably think Iām stupid and disgusting for feeling this way. There are people out there who are in the middle, who are normal, and who truly vote on the issues as they see them even when the candidates on both sides are pathetic.
A friend of mine saw a post on FB that said: Jesus was convicted in a scam trial and crucified. I still follow him.
So, thereās their āargumentā.
I saw this one posted, tooā¦it has since been deleted.
Perhaps someone pointed out to them that Jesus wasnāt actually convicted. Both judges (Pilate and Herod) said, āI find no fault in himā and āI see no reason to sentence this man to deathā but the crowds kept screaming that they wanted to release Barabbas (who had been arrested for an insurrection in the city and for murder)ā¦so the ājudgesā gave in to the will of the people and released the murderer and sent Jesus to die. (If anyone wants to quickly shut these people up, tell them to read Luke 23 to confirm this story).
Further confirming these people donāt actually read/know their Biblesā¦they just know some sound bites and memes.

I'm not a lawyer. I am a stickler for facts and receipts so I'd be interested to hear why you think this.
But I do think anyone that does support him is blind and not patriotic which is of course the opposite of what his base thinks they are. He is not the best representation of our country. His image makes us the laughing stock of the world. We need to do better and pick smarter people in both parties. We have them, I don't know why we don't run them and end up with a match of two 80 year olds.

When? While he was President? Can you imagine the logistics?

I really dislike both candidates. I can't wait for 2028 when we hopefully have two much better choices. I have to vote on the issues, not for the candidates. Immigration reform is a huge issue for me; I think Biden is doing a terrible job on the border. When Trump was president, even though I detest him, I felt more secure from a terrorism/global threat perspective. I don't think Biden is doing a good job on foreign policy, and I think Trump did. Abortion matters to me, but I am ok with it being left to the states. I think Roe v Wade was a bad legal decision and I think the repeal was the right decision. We need to figure out that issue moving forward, and I'm not sure what either candidate will do, if anything, at the federal level. Abortion is not the issue that I will focus my vote on.
Regarding this trial, typically you see a defendant who could lose his personal freedom being over-protected by the system. Calls made in his favor. I think this judge is biased and the venue was biased, and both should have been changed. (I think Alito is biased as well, FYI.) The gag order on Trump only while Cohen spoke freely made no sense to me - what or who was protected by a gag order only on Trump? Also, certain objections were overruled by the judge that I disagree with (I read the transcripts). I don't think the jury instructions seemed fair in many ways. I do think some of the jury instructions that the right wing news outlets are complaining about were fair, though. And, yes, I think they should have brought this case earlier, like as soon as they could and before the statue on the misdemeanors ran. Or right away when his presidency ended if they were worried about logistics (which I don't believe they were). Overall, this just seemed stacked against Trump in a way that made me uneasy.
I also think that this is a sad direction for the country. I think we are going to see this often, moving forward. Like if Trump wins, he will prosecute Biden for election interference or for whatever charges he can think of. And so it will go. I have no idea what the answer is to change that, though.

Biden has tried to pass immigration reform, but it was shot down by the GOP because they want to make it an election issue. Biden can't govern alone. He needs the legislature who is uncooperative.
Do you want to go back to Trump's immigration policy of separating children from their families? Because, yes, I think that is disgusting and anyone who can vote for someone who does something like that . . . well, yeah, I think they are disgusting.
I'm truly confused as to how anyone can feel safer from a global threat perspective with Trump as president. He's a wild card. And how are you not concerned about his attempt to overturn our democracy? That worries me much more than any global threat.

I remember vividly during Trump's presidency waking up every day wondering if he'd unintentionally (or intentionally) started WWIII.

I guess this goes back to what a lot if people were saying after 2016. Not everyone who voted for Trump did so BECAUSE of the racism, etc. But they were okay with overlooking that. I too heard people say after the 2016 election that they vote Republican for āeconomic reasonsā but 8 years later, if you are still touting that line, you are living in a hole or you think everyone else is stupid.
That said, I am worried this just solidifies his support and doesnāt change anything.
kittywalker, do you by chance live in a state where you are still allowed to make your own healthcare decisions now that itās the āstates rightsā? Maybe it would be more of an issue for you if you lived somewhere that you no longer had the right to make those decisions. OK to be decided by the states as long as it doesnāt affect you?
Are you unconcerned by Trump saying that he plans to become a dictator on Day 1? Do you think he will surround himself by decent people who will support the good policies? What are your thoughts on people like Adam Kinzinger and Liz Chaney? (And the fact that Kinzinger in his book calls Trump ānucking futs?ā)

I'm going to stop posting in this thread now, I was hoping you guys could be nice enough not to call me disgusting. I'm a normal person and I'm not disgusting or living in a hole because I disagree. Part of the problem is people not being able to come together.

Iām not sure why Iām wasting my breath but @@@ in regards to abortion it isnāt left up to the states. Every poll shows in every state the majority of people think abortion should be legal. Itās not like when Roe fell all states had a popular vote and if the majority voted to keep abortion legally accessibly thatās what happened . In many states the exact opposite has happened with legislature passing more restrictive laws. Like laws making mife and miso as controlled substances and "abortion trafficking" laws that make it illegal to assist a minor in getting an abortion.
Of course you can vote for whomever you want but at least donāt be delusional that issues are truly left up to the state. Rich White men continue to make decisions for us.

No. The problem is that people still listen to Fox news. Who has, time and again, straight up faked news. Tell you what, try posting here after detoxing from that "news". Stick to Rueters and Associated press for a couple of months.
I'm sure you're an ok person, but the info you got from Fox was mostly lies or incomplete.

Trump is a HUGE part of why people canāt come together.
Exactly this. I feel like Pandoraās Box is opened now and Trump has unleashed so much frenzy on believing disinformation and outlandish claims. Heās dangerous. I canāt even put into words how sick and scared I feel. And itās not even for me. Iām old. Iām not just looking out for me. I canāt stand what may be left behind for my family and all yours.

I canāt come together with people who are ok with putting people in power that will strip the rights of me, my family, my friends, or frankly, random strangers who just want to live their lives free from hate and persecution.
We donāt have a policy disagreement, we have an ethical and moral disagreement, and thatās not something I will ever ācome togetherā on.

I see wanderingback covered abortion much more eloquently than I was attempting.
I'll just say that when trump was running back in 2015 he made fun of a disabled reporter. Everything else he's done has been even more vile and leaves me scared for what our country will look like if he wins again. Assuming he wins, if you're not rich white male he'll come for you too eventually. If he does win it will be our last election. Dictatorship for all! /s Even dictatorships only benefit rich men.

I understand that people have different views on foreign relations, taxation, and how big our government should be. Fine. We can discuss that, and on many of those issues (not human rights issues), I can agree to disagree. But I cannot wrap my brain around people (ETA) *NOT* being willing to set those things aside for 4 years to keep someone so dangerous out of office. Principle Over Party. I donāt care WHAT policies someone hasā¦if ANY candidate demonstrated such abhorrent, dehumanizing behavior, they would never receive my vote. Character matters.
It sickens me that people will check a box next to a vile human who truly cares about no one beyond himself and proudly declares he will act like a dictator simply for their own perceived gain.
Well I hope you or any woman who means anything to you never finds themselves in a situation where they canāt get the medical procedures they need. š¤¦āāļø
