athletes are sooo specific with how they prep on matchday, the day before, two days before, etc. everyone saw this coming. how is there no plan B here??
i am honestly shocked with how poorly this is going in france. FRANCE.
The video was labeled m/w sabre/foil so who knows what I was watching. It was definitely super fast. I gave up after 3 points because I couldn't see anything obviously impressive, and no one was telling me what I couldn't see.
I’m gonna guess it was the women’s saber. The men were doing foil today. And with all the gear, it probably wasn’t readily obvious if it was men or women. lol. Peacock/NBC does have the commentary for the videos that say finals. But you are watching overseas and I don’t know who you are streaming through. I know the fencing Reddit is recommended streaming through VPN and Australia 9 something. But, I don’t know if those have commentary.
I steam through Australia. I’ve tried repeatedly to sign up for paramount. Even with a vpn and us billing address I keep getting weird errors.
I guess Australians don’t care since I tried again for epee. To me it’s all sticky pointy things moving faster than I can see. That’s not to diminish the sport. I’m making fun of my not a single athletic bone self.

No one cares about epee 🤣 But, honestly it would require the least commentary, because it’s based on “first blood.” You can hit with the pointy end anywhere, and both can get points (two colored light) at the same time. It’s arguably the simplest in rules.
The other ones have rule like someone gets the right to score a point. I come at you, I can hit you. But if you block, you take away my right to score and you get that right. If you miss, then I can still score. Or I can block you back. This happens in milliseconds and the are listening for a clank as much as seeing it. In addition, points only count if you hit the silvery vest or over shirt.
note, some of my best friends are epeeists. We all rib each other about what is wrong with the others. typical stereotypes: Epee - long, boring, no skill. It’s a cat and mouse game where they bounce around and test each other out. Because they don’t want to get the both side touch. A marathon of a bout. (It does have skill, they just don’t have to worry about those pesky rights to hit and we tease them for it) saber - a paper, rock, scissor sprint brute force game. For some reason, saberists don’t use chairs is the meme. foil - foilists say they are the smartest with the most technique. This is a 5k. This quote sums up foilists
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
Shallow alert: all of the women on the US gymnastics team have gorgeous skin. Like, flawless, pore-free. I know they're wearing makeup, but it can't be that heavy given that they're literally working out.

I figure if artistic swimmers can wear all that makeup and have it look amazing even when they’re done with their routines, gymnasts can probably wear a ton of makeup and have it look perfect the whole time too. Buuuuut I also think they just have perfect skin too lol.

Holy crap I have gymnastics on my phone at work so I wasn’t watching women’s rugby sevens because I figured Australia would beat USA. Nope, USA won bronze!!! Can’t wait to watch the highlights. I have loved watching rugby sevens. Anyone who doesn’t like watching sports for a long period of time should watch lol.

I kind of miss the Russians. Gymnastics just isn't as much fun without having them to hate.
I don't think anyone in gymnastics history has had more fun at a competition than the American men last night. Every routine they were just SO PUMPED. I also love when people are so happy to win a bronze, even more than winning gold.
Here have been my favorite moments over the last day or so: - Leon Marchand freaking obliterating the field in the 400IM. - After Taylor Knibb fell in the cycling time trial event and tore herself up, shrugging and saying "I guess we'll find out about the water quality in the Seine now (she is also competing in triathlon). - Every single meme and the internet exploding over Stephen Nedoroscik and his pommel horse routine - The entire men's gymnastics team - The men's triathlon being postponed. Not because I think it's joyful but because how fucking stupid were these organizers to even begin to think that they were going to hold events in that river? - Colin Jost reporting on surfing and telling Tirico he got selected because he was a *serious* sports journalist.
I was pretty shocked when Lily King didn't make the podium for the 100 breast. She looked super pissed.
Agree that Women’s Gymnastics isn’t the same without a villain rival to root against (Russia.) But, whaddya gonna do. Not the ladies’ fault they are that much better than the world.
I hope every horrible journalist who called Simone a quitter or gave her crap for dealing with her HEALTH in Tokyo realizes what a POS they are. Simone forever changed public acceptance of prioritizing mental health. She is a hero. Love her.

I am nervous for her with open wounds when (I assume?) they eventually go forward with the triathlon in questionably clean water!

i will try not to spoil but rugby is right up there for me too
OH! After watching the US women's gymnastics team final...seeing the final top 3 (not saying who so I don't spoil) was a wild ride for me. I cannot remember the last time one of the perennial powerhouses wasn't on the podium.

I am hoping she is wrapped in hydrocolloid bandages right now.

Actually Jordan suffers from cystic acne. If you look closely you can see her acne scars. And she wears a lot of make up to cover it up.
She talks about it here and how she has learned to love and embrace her skin.
Am I the only one that still hates China because of the 2008 gymnastics scandal?
Their gymnasts seem sweet though and I felt bad for this group today, so I can’t hate them. Also, I was annoyed in 2008 and then a few years later Russia showed their cheating asses so I’m cool with China again.
Guys… I have no fencing to watch tonight 🤣 Now to catch-up on all the stuff I’ve missed. Social media says I need to watch men’s pommel horse. Other than women’s gymnastics, any suggestions?
Worry not, events I follow come back tomorrow through the weekend 🤣

China cheated in swimming and there were no ramifications. So now every time I see one of their swimmers excelling I wonder if they’re doping.
