Whew....the MSG rally was (hopefullY) peak bonkers...just when you thought it couldn't get any worse. social media is having a fit this morning. i"m see posts about the number of puerto Ricans in the swing states.
🔭 Zoom in: Businessman Grant Cardone told the crowd Harris "and her pimp handlers will destroy our country."
Comedian Tony Hinchcliffe said: "I don't know if you know this but there's literally a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean right now. I think it's called Puerto Rico."
Trump's childhood friend David Rem called Harris "the Antichrist." Former wrestler Hulk Hogan used a crude gesture while insinuating that Harris had slept her way to the top.
🖼️ The big picture: Several Democrats and some Republicans argued the rally would remind voters — including those in swing state Pennsylvania, where 3.8% of the residents are of Puerto Rican descent — of the dark and race-baiting rhetoric that repelled them four years ago.
Puerto Rican celebrities Bad Bunny, JLo and Ricky Martin, who collectively have hundreds of millions of followers, shared Harris' announcement.
State of play: The Puerto Rico bashing at Trump's rally came the same day that Harris' campaign released a new plan for the U.S. territory focused on growing the island's economy, rebuilding its energy grid and bringing down housing costs.
The "comedian" - He also said "these Latinos, they love making babies," adding: "They do. There's no pulling out. They don't do that. They come inside. Just like they did to our country." [/spoiler} -----------

I was really anxious about his MSG rally and the hatred they spewed was so fucking gross, but it may very well have been campaign-ending for him. He did not gain any additional voters because people who like the hate were already here for it, but he has absolutely lost voters. Puerto Ricans are Americans and those who live stateside have a say in who wins the election.

I’m also not sure if this is the best place to put this, but Ryan Gidursky said something horrifically offensive to Mehdi Hasan on CNN last night and he’s been banned from CNN for life.
Good. His racist voice has no place on a national platform. But to be clear, CNN has had racist guests before and I think the only reason why there was a response like this time is a) because Hasan immediately called it out, and b) the backlash from Trump’s hate rally in MSG had been so visceral and vehement.
Hinchcliff’s response? I’m a comedian! They can’t take a joke! I love PR.
So predictable
Fuck off asshole.
And Vance is going with, I don’t know that guy, never met him, I didn’t hear the joke, but we all need to be less sensitive in the country. Am I right? *crowd cheers wildly*
Apparently, the campaign had screamed all of the comedians jokes, and had approved them, except the one where he used the C word. So they can’t say they didn’t know, they explicitly approved all of the content.
Puerto Ricans are pissed, not only about the insult against us but the vile comments against other minority groups.
The diaspora is receiving a clear message from our loved ones back home. As a reminder, a governor lost his job not long ago. I hope we make a difference at the polls.

I saw this live last night. I am not convinced CNN would have had this reaction if it weren’t on Abby’s show with her reaction. But- glad to see they finally let up on their “both sides” bullshit to call out straight up racism.

What happened at the rally was bad, but nothing compared to 2017.
How are there any Puerto Ricans who don’t hate him?
3000 people died after Maria and many of them because of his shitty, callous and inadequate response. Isn’t that the first thing Puerto Rico thinks every time the Orange Menace rears his ugly head?
Good question on how there are some who still vote for him. Unbelievable.
Trust me. What happened after Maria has not been forgotten but PR can still get very angry about this latest insult and react to it.
The trauma of what happened after Maria is very serious, very real and has never gone away. I can attest to that because I am talking about my own loved ones.

I’m sorry if I implied PR shouldn’t be angry at the insult. The Putrid Pumpkin has made hate speech against people I love central to his campaign and it always enrages me.

I read about this late last night. I was gobsmacked. Though I probably shouldn't have been, given the source. He pals around with terrible people and is clearly quite terrible himself.
Apparently the fallout in Pennsylvania is fast and swift. The state has 270k Puerto Rican voters. I’m very sorry for those that were insulted by him but I hope this is enough to push the state toward Harris considering how close it was in the last election.
Not directing this to anyone in particular but in both this thread and Kamala's thread, there is a lot of disbelief over how anyone especially POC can still support this guy.
One perspective that I heard from a dem strategist recently really made sense to me so I'm sharing it here:
People who think most politicians are liars/selfish scum actually appreciate that trump lays it all out in the open. Even his racism (and speaking as a WOC), is a lot easier to deal with when it's out in the open. Because POC do believe racist tropes about themselves and can most certainly be racist towards other minorities and it's easy to explain things away as "he is talking about the bad ones" and I'm a good one.
Another perspective I hear is that some folks legitimately think they're voting for trump for the greater good. He is so racist and I'm a/ married to a POC etc but we have to do what's best for the country and the country needs a strong (insert other misogyny here) leader.
Saw the results of this when Trump was in power and some spouses got deported with the guys/women shouting, but I supported him. They are one of the good ones.
It's not odd at all. Many posters have expressed that they don't want to see their vile words copied verbatim over here. It is all out there in the news and we're well aware they're total pieces of shit. Having hurtful language, some of which is targeted at people represented here, isn't productive.

I didn’t think much could shock me anymore but the clips I saw from the rally were absolutely disgusting. They also made an awful joke about Palestinians and Jewish people, black people, domestic violence against Taylor Swift, and threw in subtle Nazi dog whistles. People can argue he was a comedian but what the other speakers said was just as bad. Another speaker called it a Nazi rally. Dr. Phil who is only famous because of a successful black woman talked about DEI and bullying 🙄 Stephen Miller is literally quoting a Nazi rally - just substitute the word America for Germany. Trump is talking about the Enemy within again.
I hope this is a good reminder of the terrifying leadership we don’t want for the next 4 years and a reminder of how awful it was. There are 8 years of new voters who were not 18 when he ran for election the first time so I think we need to keep reminding them this is he has always been, but a second presidency will be worse because he’s surrounded by less guardrails and worse people.
We really need GenZ to vote. Don’t spend your time trying to convince MAGA people to change their mind. Help apathetic people or those that have barriers figure out how to vote. Offer to drive them to the polls, give them some history about our generations desire to vote 3rd party and how that has worked out, explain to them how you decide who to vote for down ballot or use the voter guide, or offer to be available if they have questions (especially if they feel they can’t ask MAGA parents).

Disgusting degenerates.
I'm also hearing "well Trump and Vance didn't say it so big deal. And Harris and Walz call Trump a Fascist and Nazi which is about offensive as you can get"
Literally that's what the guy said to me. What is wrong with people??

The creepiest thing was 🍊 little talk about a secret with Mike Johnson 🤫 He can’t help but brag, yet people want him to be in charge of National Security secrets. See the Succession thread for more discussion of that.
I have heard there’s a super creepy mega preacher that spoke that does have some Christians turning away from him, because the dude literally seems like the devil pretending to be a preacher, but he’s been speaking at some of his rallies for years so IDK if anything has really changed. I’m glad some Republicans and some Christians are actually speaking out publicly and saying this does not reflect the values we’ve always preached.
