Today is the day I finally get to do work things after 9 extremely long weeks! My coworkers and I are helping with kinder orientation/registration. Basically we lead different stations where they show us how well they know or don't know their letters, numbers, how to use scissors and write their names. And then a few other things after that's over at noon. Yay work!
DD1 (9) had minor surgery this morning. We’re in recovery, it went well and she’s still sleeping off the anesthesia. I’m so tired, we had to get up at 5 AM. I’m so glad the surgery is done!
We took A back to school shopping (clothes -- supplies are provided by our district) and it was the first time I didn't just buy stuff for him. It was cute watching him find his style! Except his style is Under Armour and I hate it, LOL.
But he's a big sneaker guy and he picked out some really fun Jordan's that I can't wait for him to ruin 😂🥴
I watch both The Bear and Emily in Paris. While I know the latter is floof and insanely unrealistic, I enjoy the pretty people. And hating on all of their decisions.
However, the fact that Emily in Paris is silly beyond belief is emphasized by the way each show portrays a young, talented chef pursuing a Michelin star. It's hilarious.
My dogs have killed 3 critters in our backyard in the last week. I’m so sick of cleaning them and the mess up, I wish there was a way to keep these more things out of our yard. Apparently it isn’t enough to be chased every time they enter the yard they still think it’s a nice place to build a life.
One of my dogs is limping intermittently this morning... so tomorrow we're off to the vet for a blood test to rule out lyme and other tick borne illnesses. Ugh. I can't find any obvious explanations (no rocks or sharp things between her pads, no cuts, etc). She didn't mind me touching/cleaning hew paw. She gets preventatives regularly, but I know that isn't a guarantee. My biggest fear with limping is osteosarcoma, which would likely mean amputation. I already have one tripawd and I'd prefer not to have another. Ugh.

I painted my kitchen walls yesterday. My knees are killing me from getting up and down the step stool probably 100+ times. I'd hoped to get the utility room done at the same time, since they're the same color, but I ran out of time and energy. The utility room will be this next weekend's project, unless FI comes home sooner than expected.
I had an alterations appointment for my wedding dress on Saturday. I used the store where I bought the dress so I wouldn't have to use the one who told me I'd look like a marshmallow, this lady was super nice and helpful! I asked her about buying a slip and she took me over to a quiet corner, pretending to show me something and quietly told me to go to goodwill or get on Poshmark because they're $100!

I had a pimple pop up on my shoulder last Thursday. Then it kind of went in, I'm not sure how to describe it, and now I have a huge lump under my skin. I have a call in to my Dermatologist, but they have a notoriously long wait time for appointments, so I don't know if I should just call my PCP or go to UC. Ugh. Happy Monday to me.
Update: I was able to get an appointment with my Dermatologist tomorrow, so that is a relief.
First day of school here- I seriously can't believe how fast summer went by. Everyone was up and ready to go in plenty of time this morning, we'll see how long that holds.
Work is kind of a shit show on multiple fronts right now, luckily my boss wholly has my back but it's still stressful.

The Bear stresses me out. So much yelling!
Same. But I feel like relentless hours and nonstop stress are probably more like an actual kitchen than everyone is chill and has time to make out, have love triangles, find easy substitutes (his grandmother, ffs!) to run the kitchen so you can go to a party, and casually experiment with food.
sproctopus, our sons have the same style, lol. I don't mind it though.
DS wanted Jordans also. H ordered him some on ebay that were previously worn. They are a little dingier looking than I thought they'd be though, so I need to figure out how to spruce them up a bit.

DS went to Freshman open house this morning. Apparently, it's not cool for parents to go with their kids, so he was on his own to figure it out once he got there. On the ride home I was thinking about how it didn't seem like that long ago that he was starting Kindergarten.
My dog is on a new antibiotic to try to help resolve his skin issues. This one doesn't seem to help at all, and it seems like his skin condition is getting worse. He also got a Cytopoint injection at his last visit a few weeks ago, so I thought it would've kicked in by now. We have a vet appointment on Friday anyways, so holding out until then on getting his skin looked at. Outside of trying to find a vet dermatologist (which I imagine will be $$$$, and likely the closest one will be at the Michigan State School of Vet Sciences, which is over an hour away), we don't know what else to do.
I have been on an organizing kick lately. I spent a few hours yesterday going through our linen closet and dresser and getting rid of stuff, folding, and putting it in to bins. The door for our linen closet keeps falling off, despite replacing the track and actually having a handyman fix it twice, so I am thinking of just abandoning the door altogether and making it look nice without one. I will need to paint the inside, and I ordered some new bins too. I also recently got a storage shelving unit for our basement, and I'm waiting on a new bookshelf for the basement so we can condense the two mismatched ones that we have.
I've been in kind of a funk with being bored lately so I'm trying to at least make use of my time by making the house nicer! I think it might be kind of seasonal because although summer is supposed to be the fun season, it's too damn hot and everything is crowded so it makes me want to do the opposite and stay home and indoors. I can't wait to do some hiking this fall and spend some time on my deck!

We were down the shore last week and it was so good. My sil has a house in Long Beach Island NJ which is where my grandpop retired to when I was in grade school. So even though she has the house, I’ve been going since I was born. Local authority! It was just me, H and the kids, except the one day my sister came down with us. The toddler is a maniac so i didn’t get much in the way of beach time but it was a great time nonetheless.
SIL and her family went to Italy as a belated college grad gift for my niece. She said to ship their clothes bc they’re not coming back. I said deal, but we get the LBI house.
Pool party with nine 6th grade girls yesterday. It went great! The rain was not bad so the pool never closed they loved swimming while it was raining. There was no drama. They moved as a pack and everyone was included all three hours. I'm so glad we did this. All of DD's closest friends are in the other class and we invited them plus four girls she only sort of knows from her class. They started a group message and all played Roblox together last night. I am feeling a lot better about the school year.
H comes back today from helping his nephew learn how to be a homeowner this weekend.
When I was out of town a couple of weeks ago, he cleaned out and organized the pantry and the cabinets over our wet bar. He said he'd wanted to do the ones in the laundry room, but didn't have time so I did those while he was gone this weekend. And that inspired me to also do my under sink cabinet so I got rid of a bunch of stuff and that's more organized now.
Doing my under cabinet sink I had a bunch of random beauty stuff and posted it as a lot for $50 on my neighborhood FB page and people are all "how much for just XYZ?" but I don't want to deal with a ton of pick-ups and there are some things that are worth almost that by themselves, but of course no one wants to hear that. Just come take all of it, geeeez lol

Well we’ve hit another milestone- I’m done breastfeeding! I have a bunch of travel coming up so I thought it’d be best to just end it instead of pumping and/or wondering if she’d still be interested when I return from trips. So I had been preparing her all week that we’d be saying bye bye milk and I think all went well. She’s talking in full sentences and seems to somewhat understand past, present and future, so she seemed to “get it" and explain to me what was happening.
Wow, can’t believe I did that for almost 2 years (she’ll be 2 in Nov)! I am so excited now that me and my partner can truly split mornings now and I can lay in bed for a few hours and do absolutely nothing on a Saturday or Sunday ☺️
We hosted an event for 100 people yesterday. This is the first of 5 events we're hosting in the next year. DH and I are the face of a local society for the year and although this stuff is fun, it's a lot. It's a lot of time, it's a lot of money, it's a lot of stress.
I, of course, stressed myself the hell out yesterday by deciding we needed more food at the last minute. I made a salad at the venue to add to the catered meal. There was plenty of food, I could have skipped chopping vegetables for an hour before everyone got there. Why am I like this?
I also drank way too much wine and keep replaying the night over in my head. It appears that everyone had a great time and the photos are great. The next event isn't until October so I have some time to get myself together. Less wine for a while.
First day back to work after being on vacation for 11 days and it is rough. I wish I took today off. At least I’m at home.
I also woke up with a sore throat so I am worried I brought home a sickness from our trip ☹️ Blah. So even though Tuesday is our in-office day, I’m likely staying home tomorrow also.
To follow up on my post from last week about DS1, the school has jumped into action and we have a full plan in place for supporting him when he goes back tomorrow.
I'm sure they aren't thrilled that I implied in my email last week that the internal communication within the school seemed to have dropped off because I have a full narrative of everything they had planned before school started and an explanation that this wasn't implemented the first week by design. Sure.
Regardless, they've jumped into action, EVERYONE knows now - teachers/counselors/all the principals, and DS1 has the school psychologist himself as his go-to person for support starting tomorrow.
I recently fucked up and lost a Southwest companion pass for this fall and I feel like such an idiot. I met all the terms (booked and completed travel to HI with cash and points during a prescribed date span) and filled out everything I needed to but I changed the return flight by two days very shortly after booking and even though it still fell within the requirements of the promotion, apparently just the act of changing the flights nullified the offer. We had a great trip to HI but the pass was a big motivator for booking three fairly pricey tickets and I'm bummed. I didn't even realize my mistake until I was on the phone with CS asking about the status and they were like, oh, you messed up. Sigh.

We had a 4 day weekend, so we went to our favorite beach. It was lovely but pretty cold, and I also *have* a cold, so while I'm glad we went I also was glad to get home to my bed and couch. I have a ton to do at work over the next couple days, so I'm hoping I start feeling better soon. Also last year I had bronchitis for my birthday (remember when everyone on the board had bronchitis?), which is Friday, and my only wish for my birthday this year was to NOT feel like ass, so fingers crossed for that!
I don't find the EVA Birks to be as supportive as the cork ones, so I reserve the EVA ones for beach/pool. I prefer the traditional ones with cork for post-run recovery, and basically everything else lol.
DS2 has day camps the next two weeks - since summer started he has only had overnight camp, trips, or downtime, so today was rough for both of us with needing to be up early, packing lunch etc. I suppose it’s good practice before school starts. I’m not ready! I’ve really been enjoying more leisurely mornings.
DS1 had running camp last week and came home sick - tested positive for Covid yesterday. Whomp whomp. Only teenagers can have Covid, feel awful, and still run 11 miles a day. He was bunking with his team and they all shared a 3.5 hour bus ride home so I assume the whole XC team is going down. I’m just hoping the rest of us avoid it.
