I think this is going to vary a lot. I have medium length hair, below my bra line. When I get a full highlight plus roots (to cover grays), toner, cut and style it is $350ish. I only need a full highlight every year or so. In between I get a roots touch up and a partial highlight every 6 months.
Roots only and a trim - $90 Roots, highlight and trim - $120
It used to be more like $180 and $220 when my hairdresser worked for a chain but she left and now rents a chair and sets her own prices. The first time she told me the total there I almost fell over. She said now she can just charge for her time and supplies without corporate mark up. I just make sure to tip her really well now. Hair is curly and medium length (hits about mid-neck).
I go to a deva curl trained stylist and my shoulder length hair is $78 for a cut. I think it’s about $125 when she does the deep conditioning treatment, which I do about once a year. MCOL

Short hair. I get red color with blonde highlights and a cut. It’s$200.00 and that’s with my tip. And because it’s short I have to go in every 5 weeks. I live in a LCOL area.

I have medium length hair (just below my shoulders). 2 weeks ago I paid $285 for full highlights/ lowlights and a root touch up. It would have been another $75 if I’d had her cut it. Then tip on top of that. I live in Houston for reference.

Thanks everybody! I have medium length hair and get a trim 3 to 4x a year and highlights 2 to 3 x a year, once is just partial. When I get full highlights it's now $350. I just remember it being in the 200s a couple years ago.
My hair is between my shoulders and bra line depending on how long I let it go. Cut and half head of highlights is $290 after tip. So $240ish?
ETA: I realized the last time I did this was ~15 months ago so prices have almost definitely gone up. My stylist passed her Red Seal exam since then and my last hair cut (no highlights) had increased. I think you're on par.
Unfortunately, that seems normal to me. And my ~$300 was only for partial not full highlights.
Thanks, I won't quit my guy then. It just seemed like a big jump, but I guess it's like everything else that jumped up. I also get my eyebrows waxed and tinted so it's over $400 then.
Last time I went was February - full highlight plus cut, it was $325 before tip. I hadn’t had highlights in a few years and was quite shocked by the increase. I need to go back but the high price I why I haven’t been since February. I have begun to get some greys and having highlights has certainly helped make those less noticeable I think. My hair is long ish.
My friend/ stylist charges me about $300 including tip for partial highlights and cut. My hair is about 2 inches below my shoulders. I think she’s worth the price (we’re in Hawaii, so HCOL).

I've been going to the same hairstylist since 2007 and she said post Covid supply costs for hair went through the roof. It was double or more for some products. She actually had to switch out some stuff because she couldn't stomach the cost and then passing along to such a huge increase to her clients.
She "charges" me $120 for baylage and cut and my hair is about to my bra strap. I tell her to charge me $175 on the machine because I keep telling her she's not charging me enough.
She's contemplating retirement and selling the salon and I know I'm going to look at double the price when I have to find someone else.

ssmjlm thanks, good to know. Some of this is just my mother's voice in my head. She rarely spent money on herself and was always asking if something was necessary. I appreciate my being more of a minimalist from her, I hate clutter and stuff, but I don't like the second guessing myself on other things that are pretty normal like this.

I always justify it to myself that you have your hair every single day. It isn't a bag or a pair of jeans. Your hair is on your head every moment of the day. So it makes sense to be a place to invest. You definitely get what you pay for when it comes to hair color.
