We have been in our house fort 2 1/2 years now and we have almost nothing on the walls. This summer, that was my project. I’ve scoured consignment shops , FB marketplace, Homegoods, etc and I found very little. (I found one thing for my dining room which I’m not sure I love but the size, colors, and price were right and I was sick of looking.) So I guess I just need to resign myself to spending thousands of dollars to not have naked walls. 😩
I've bought a lot of art (both originals and prints) from Etsy. I bought a ton of art at the beginning of covid because my home office was entirely bare.
I also have a couple prints from this artist blule.fr/
I had some art in my last house thst I got from a local art school's student art sale. That's a good way to acquire some nice art fairly cheaply if you have an art school nearby.
I like Etsy for this. I also buy photos and small paintings at art galleries, which tend to run between $100-300 (or could be $9K like where I last inquired, but I don’t buy those, lol).
I have an abstract print from West Elm so you might try there. I’ve also done a print of a landscape from my phone onto canvas that turned out nicely. I think it was just $50 for something like 20x30” through Shutterfly.
My dad is a semiprofessional photographer & MIL is an artist so I've been given stuff from them. Most recently I bought art at the Earth Day event in my city.
We go through a local auction house most of the time, but Artsy has links to a lot of auctions and sells directly. Price point can start at a couple hundred dollars and it’s fun to browse.
-family photos - some engagement photos of me and H, family portraits and fun photos to the kids. - paintings/framed art from Homegoods/TJ Maxx - a few small watercolors from a friend who is an artist, framed myself
We have an open concept house so there actually aren’t ghat many walls to put art on. I used to love that, not so much now that we have kids and have no privacy.
Traveling and we move a lot so we like having something from each place we’ve lived. But if I want something to match a theme like the kid’s ocean bathroom then I go to Etsy.
I try to pick up a piece of wall art from any place we visit. Sometimes I’ll get something else for the house instead (like I hit a glass blown candlestick holder instead from Williamsburg). I’m super sentimental though and most things in our home have some kind of meaning to us.
I’ve had good luck at online estate auctions lately!
Oooh! How do you find these?
www.estatesales.net lets you set up alerts for items or sales in your area. That can give you an idea of what companies are in your area too. There are national/regional sales but local ones are generally cheaper imo and you don’t have to pay for shipping.
I found a print on vacation that I loved. I bought a smaller print and then later went to their website and bought directly from them. I have a photo from Etsy of a place I’ve visited, and other random printable file art from Etsy.
I have mirrors and wall hangings from HomeGoods/Target.
Family gallery will in hall was printed through MixTiles and I love them.
We also have a print from Khaled Hosseini's Sea Prayer and a gallery wall of various original pieces. Those include a medicine painting from an Aboriginal Australian woman, prints of vineyards purchased in New Zealand, an original piece my parents bought at a Native American art event when I was a child, a llama painting my mom bought in Peru, and a couple of photographs relevant to our travels.
There's a 9-frame grid wall at the back of the hallway leading to all the bedrooms that is just pictures of the kids. I replace them annually with pictures I've taken over the year.
I haven't bit the bullet yet, but will likely buy a print from Jess Franks for above our bed since I haven't found anything else I like better. www.jessfranksart.com/
One of the most amazing things about New Orleans and PR is the artwork and culture surrounding it!!! Our house is mostly art from local artists in both places and we have a few framed prints from Jazz Fest and other local events.
Ok douche, go ahead and call it mud. My husband DID have halitosis. We addressed it after I talked to you girls on here and guess what? Years later, no problem. Mofongo, you're a cunt. Eat shit. ~anonnamus

When I first moved in to my house 9 years ago I just put stuff that I found at like Home Goods or Kirklands or places like that. Over time I've been adding pieces that I find that I love. Sometimes they are from places that I've traveled to, other pieces I've picked up at auctions. I follow several local photographers and have picked up prints when they post something that I love. I also like to peruse local Farmers Markets because a lot of time local artists and artisans will set up at those types of events. My taste is very eclectic so I love having pieces that are different themes or different mediums. I even have some hand-me-down stuff from my Grandmother that I'm obsessed with.
I have a mix of things on my walls. I inherited a few things, DH came with a few from an artist with whom he took lessons for a time, and the rest got picked up at galleries or the local college student art show.
Most of my prints are things I bought traveling or at museum gift shops.

Thanks for the replies. In our first house I mostly decorated with photos, which I loved at the time, but I’m ready for something else. I’m working on a gallery wall of family photos in our bedroom, but I don’t want photos in the rest of the house.
The thought of hunting around art shows sounds awful to me, lol. I can’t believe how many of you found your art that way! I think home decor is just not up my alley . Like at all. lol.
Maybe they will stay bare. Maybe I will I found something I love online. Who knows?!!

Buying art in person is something we mostly do on vacation or a day trip because that’s when we have time to aimlessly browse. We just bought a piece last week because we were getting ready to head back on the road, I saw a gallery and thought they’d have a nice bathroom lol
