Also, most people were dressed in regular clothes so I guess a lot of people sleep naked?! I was one of only maybe 4 people in our huge hotel I saw that were in actual pajamas and my partner said that’s cause "adults don’t wear pajamas" lol. Even the other baby we saw wasn’t even in cute little baby pajamas, they were just in a onesie!
Well, I generally sleep naked or in leggings and a tshirt. But either way, I would want to put on a bra, especially if I was walking down 16 flights is stairs (for my own comfort). At that point, I’d probably thrown a dress or sweatshirt over my tshirt and bra. I have walked my dog in my robe, but I think I would feel like I need to put clothes on to be seen in public, even at a 2am fire alarm lol
My start date at my new job might be held up because my background check is taking longer than usual to come back. I'm worried. There shouldn't be anything there to cause it to not come back clear, but what if there's something fraudulent? Ack!
I wouldn't worry. Our background checks take forever for no apparent reason. It's a common frustration when trying to schedule onboarding.
We're on the road for our vacation! Hopefully the next 6 hours go smoothly, you never know how it's going to go with young kids for that long in the car.
Still really bummed my parents can't come now, but our friends might be joining us last minute... If they test negative for covid tomorrow.
Should I warn DD about the darker side of Elon Musk? Or let it go?
I would. This is the type of teacher that could be a real influence on kids, so a little tempering wouldn't hurt. Musk's technological advancements ARE great. The execution (blatant unchecked racism in his factories for instance) of the ideas are not great.

1st day of school here! Tenth grade which happened in a blink. I’m not really excited about it though because he is so hard to get up and going. And it’s just exhausting for me. H is all ‘ we can take turns so you don’t have to do it every day’ and I’m all ‘we have to find a way for him to get out of bed on time by himself because he’s not going to live here forever and he needs practical life skills’. I don’t get my first day of school picture (which he surprisingly still allows) because the bus was literally pulling away from the stop as he ran out of the house.

DS starts school tomorrow. His first class of the day has no teacher - he retired at the end of the school year and as of Monday there was no replacement (a friend teaches at the school). It's web design so I would think you need someone with web experience to teach it.
I posted something on Facebook for the first time in a year, and it included thanking two people that have been very supportive of DD. I thought about hiding the post from another one of my fb friends (call her Betty) bc I know that Betty is feuding with the people I thanked. I didn't want to give her any ammunition or info about them. But in the end I decided I was overthinking it and who cares.
Anyway. Betty unfriended me within hours of my post.
This is why DD stopped GS in TN. The red tape and mean girl attitude from the adults was wild. We were denied a troop because parents didn’t want to let new kids in. The Greater Atlanta group would not allow you to turn away a child if the adult ratio was available.
Well, I’m probably part of the mean girl problem, because I have closed our troop to new scouts. That choice didn’t happen in a vacuum, but I’m sure it makes us look unfriendly if anyone tries to join us. I don’t believe volunteers should have to take more and more kids if their troop is working and they don’t have the bandwidth to add more. In our age bracket, I believe our ratio is 2:25. No, I can’t handle 25 kids just because the ratio says I can.
This council is defensive and has been from the jump. I wanted to quit this year but my coleader asked me to stay, since she is going through a difficult pregnancy and did not trust that we would be able to replace me with a committed, quality volunteer that she would need.
I am certain you aren’t. The last troop we were in would purposely not include certain kids. They would only tell the ones they liked aboutt events. They would talk amongst themselves openly about the kids. I wanted nothing to do with that.

H is having the same issue with a new hire. There must be a backlog going on. I hope you get an answer soon

Same.
Not that I'd have to warn either of my kids because I rant about him regularly and they know he's a garbage human.
Pajama devotee here. I like matched sets sort of Ward Clever style, but for ladies. Short sleeve in the summer, long sleeve in the winter. I even sew them for myself out of my favorite fabrics. Sometimes I make a matching robe.

I can handle any nighttime fire drill in style.
I have to lug out my sewing machine to fix a pair of my jeans that a seam came out and now you might have inspired me to make a few pairs of pajamas since I've lost weight and all of my cool weather pj's are now huge on me.

FI should have been in at midnight, then it was pushed to 6 am, now it's 6 pm. He's been stuck on a tiny boat with no food since 10 am yesterday. I normally can just roll with things, thank you lexapro, but I'm quickly losing patience with all this.

Ugh. That is so stressful. Whatever happened with the spoiled food shipment? How long did they have to go without fresh food?
The people who design Immodium packages are clearly sadists.
You used to be able to buy it loose in bottles until people were buying it to get high. Then they cracked down on the amount you could buy and it all switched to blister packs. Now we all suffer.
OMG I once had a bottle of it that I kept in my purse for emergencies (being somewhat randomly lactose intolerant, these happen), and I've never been able to find a replacement bottle. I've often thought about cutting all the blister packs open and dumping it in the bottle. I seriously need scissors to open them. My friend used some from my purse stash at book club last month, and she was miraculously able to open without scissors and I was so impressed (and she was impressed in all the meds I had in my purse lol).

They replaced the spoiled food, but it took a week. In the meantime they lived off of whatever weird stuff they could find in their pantry, like vienna sausages, yuck.
ssmjlm I'd definitely move offices if it's already 81 degrees in the AM, it's just going to get worse as the day goes on.
Another 545 am CC practice for DS1 due to heat index. We incorrectly assumed that DS2's after school CC practice yesterday would be indoors since it wasn't canceled like DS1's/the high school. No, they ran outside in it though they did do some indoor conditioning. He came home and showered and then melted down. We told him he could take today off. He was in a meet Monday night that was 26 teams so got home late and then the extra hot practice yesterday. I'm pretty sure last year the day after a meet was a recovery day/day off. Tomorrow will be high heat index too, then should go back down and plus he will have a 3 day weekend.
My bff's kids run CC and she's been telling me how their practices/meets have been having all sorts of last minute changes due to the heat. It's hard to keep up with, but also better for them to be safe. A local lacrosse coach is under investigation around here because he made kids practice doing bear crawls or something like that on a track during this heat, and they have severe burns from it.

I tend to lean more towards safety side than most, but have trusted the kids' coaches, but then when even DH was surprised about yesterday I figured I wasn't too far off. It's all a hard call at times, but seems like there should be some streamlined guidelines like a yes/no decision tree for outdoor sports. Seems odd that in the same district one team is called off/time adjusted and not for another of the same sport. I know practice facilities indoors are a premium and people cannot all just change their schedules last minute though.

That’s what I do! It’s a pain but better than wrestling with it when you don’t feel well. I have only been able to open it once without scissors lol
There are only 5 girls in my daughter's advanced math class. Less than 20%. Dislike.
AP chem, 1992, the teacher started the first day with “well lookie there. I don’t think I’ve ever had this many girls in my class before. Or had one get higher than a 3.” Fuck him. We did excellent! As/5s.
And guess who is the only one of those girls not an MD today?

Drivers' training summer of 1993. 2 girls and 1 boy in our car with a male teacher. First time the boy got in the driver seat after both of us girls had driven and our teacher turned around, without ever having seen this boy drive before, and smugly said "Okay girls, time to sit up and pay attention and see how it's really done." Really done?! That boy was a much worse driver than either of us girls and that's being kind. The other girl in the car with me grew up on a farm and had been driving since she was 10. SHE was the best in that car.
It is really sad the lengths that people with substance use disorders have to go to get high. As someone with chronic constipation, that sounds terrible but I guess it's better than withdrawal
We had a routine maintenance for our HVAC system scheduled between 8-12 today, and the guy showed up at 7:30. We were both still sleeping, lol. We only figured out he was here because our dog launched off the bed barking and he has literally never done that before (he barks plenty but usually the stuff he barks at can't be heard from our bedroom). I was so confused about why he was barking! And then I guess it upset him enough that he kept barking almost the entire time the guy was here, which is embarrassing. Our dog doesn't seem to really like random men - he often is ok with seeing women out and about walking, but almost always barks at men. We are going to have to work on that. It's tough when we hardly ever have visitors over, though - I realized today that we haven't had a single social visitor in the 7 months we've had him!
My dad was having trouble breathing over the weekend, and went to the ER on Monday. He seemed really conflicted about whether or not he really needed to go to the hospital. They ran a bunch of tests, and couldn't really find much other than some calcification in his arteries (? I think? Most of this info is second- and third-hand, and my parents are very unreliable narrators).
They admitted him Monday for observation, and said they would do a stress test and potentially a heart cath on Tuesday. He freaked out about the stress test because the last time he had one "it almost killed me" according to him. So then (allegedly) someone told him that they were just going to go ahead with the heart cath without a stress test.
He ended up not getting anything done at all yesterday. The cardiologist came in and said, again, that they couldn't do a heart cath without the stress test, and would do it this morning.
It is noon and last I heard he's not scheduled for anything. According to my mom, my dad "gave them an ultimatum" this morning that they either give him a firm schedule for the testing or he was leaving. He is very worried about whether his insurance will cover his time in the hospital, but isn't actually calling and asking or anything.
My parents seem to think that if it was important, the hospital would have scheduled the tests. And since they didn't, he is OK to go home and schedule as an outpatient in the next few weeks.
But, like, he couldn't breathe? And probably still can't? He smoked for 40 years so his breathing sucks on a good day-- it must have been really bad for them to admit him.
They are more difficult to parent than my actual children.
