We had a fire alarm go off at our hotel in the middle of the night, so that was an adventure. I now feel extra vindicated to never leave our child alone to go somewhere else in the hotel! She was a happy camper on the 16 flight walk down chatting up about what she was seeing lol and went back to sleep easily once we got back and she’s still asleep so that is good!
Also, most people were dressed in regular clothes so I guess a lot of people sleep naked?! I was one of only maybe 4 people in our huge hotel I saw that were in actual pajamas and my partner said that’s cause "adults don’t wear pajamas" lol. Even the other baby we saw wasn’t even in cute little baby pajamas, they were just in a onesie!

I got a new car over the weekend and I think that it is smarter than me. This is the first brand new car that I've purchased since 2006, I normally purchase something a couple of years old, so I always feel like what I buy is already behind on the times. This car is so intuitive it's almost scary.
We have no air conditioning at work upstairs. No one told me, AGAIN. I hate that I'm on assignment and people just basically forget I exist. I just makes me feel like I'm invisible.
It's 81 in my office. I could go downstairs to my old office and work, no one would probably know.

I had that happen once and I threw on clothes before I went downstairs. I didn't want to go outside in my nightgown. My kids stayed in their pajamas though.
First day of school over here! We were up extra early so we had time for pictures and DD1 wanted to walk to school. Kids were so happy! I'm excited to get back to a routine but not excited about having to get up earlier. I was spoiled by sleeping until 8 over the summer.

ssmjlm I'd definitely move offices if it's already 81 degrees in the AM, it's just going to get worse as the day goes on.
Another 545 am CC practice for DS1 due to heat index. We incorrectly assumed that DS2's after school CC practice yesterday would be indoors since it wasn't canceled like DS1's/the high school. No, they ran outside in it though they did do some indoor conditioning. He came home and showered and then melted down. We told him he could take today off. He was in a meet Monday night that was 26 teams so got home late and then the extra hot practice yesterday. I'm pretty sure last year the day after a meet was a recovery day/day off. Tomorrow will be high heat index too, then should go back down and plus he will have a 3 day weekend.

I’ve been called into the “principal’s office” at my Girl Scout council. They say it’s to talk about my ideas for our local camp. But I have a feeling it’s because I mouthed off and pushed back on the CFO at a recent listening session when she told me they demoed a campsite due to non-use. I said that was an empty excuse; the campsite hadn’t been useable in at least 6 years due to their lack of commitment to maintenance. Of course no one was using it.
I hate how every time anyone holds them accountable, a wrist slap follows. Just remove me as a volunteer. It’s clear I’m not your type.

I was planning to WFH today because I need to end my workday a little early so I can get to DS's football game. Unfortunately, we had a big storm roll through late yesterday afternoon and it knocked out our internet. At least our power stayed on.
DS is nervous and excited for his first football game of the season today. He is excited that he was moved to be a starter for his offense position.
The people who design Immodium packages are clearly sadists.
You used to be able to buy it loose in bottles until people were buying it to get high. Then they cracked down on the amount you could buy and it all switched to blister packs. Now we all suffer.
School has been going for two weeks. It feels like such a grind. I’m looking forward to the 3 day weekend even though it is slightly busier than I’d like.

I had no idea Imodium could be used for anything other than ending gastro misery. That’s wild!

Nightgown understandable! But I was surprised not to see any pajamas pants and tshirts or anything like that type of pajama wear. Mostly regular day clothes like jeans and skirts!

I really hope that the liquid inside of my reusable ice cubes isn't poisonous, because I just realized that I blended one in with my smoothie this morning. I googled it and am getting mixed answers from it's fine to it may damage your internal organs, so that's super.
ETA: I found some info on the poison control thing and besides some stomach upset, it looks like I'll be okay.

Same! I have to wonder if the high would be worth the ensuing constipation from taking what I assume is a super high dose.

This is why DD stopped GS in TN. The red tape and mean girl attitude from the adults was wild. We were denied a troop because parents didn’t want to let new kids in. The Greater Atlanta group would not allow you to turn away a child if the adult ratio was available.
I wonder if it’s mixed in meth and not just handfuls of Imodium.
Ohhhh like cutting it with it. Ok. Yeah that makes more sense.
I was wrong. Google says people take it by the handful.
“Loperamide is an antidiarrheal agent commonly used to treat acute and chronic diarrhea. When taken in large quantities, the drug can produce a euphoric high similar to opioids, causing many individuals struggling with opioid addictions to abuse loperamide either to get high or help manage withdrawal symptoms”

Yeah, I can’t imagine! I think the popularity has waned (for obvious reasons!) because the laws have relaxed and you can get slightly more at a time.
The pharmacist at Costco told me people used to come in and get like 10 of the 250 pill bottles at a time 😟
I didn’t think this deserved its own post & it’s certainly random. I would appreciate thoughts and feedback.
DD is in high school and got an amazing teacher for her mechanics & technology class (11th grade). Very enthusiastic, hands-on, in-class experimental, real-world guest speakers, sort of teacher and curriculum.
The problem? He loves Elon Musk. We were on a parent call with the teacher and he asked us “Do you know who Elon Musk is?” Uhm, yes. He then told us all about Elon Musk in the most glowing terms and Space X. “Did you hear that there are 2 astronauts on the space station and NASA just contracted with Space X to get them back in February 2025?”. Highlighted “his” inventions and businesses. The students will be designing and launching their own rockets, so I get the connection. And I know how tempting it must be to elevate a real-life person to get students interested and invested in the material.
Should I warn DD about the darker side of Elon Musk? Or let it go?
Part of me is certain that some/most parents said “Elon, who?” So, this teacher can’t be expected to present a fair & balanced assessment of the guy on a phone call. But also, come on!
Super proud of DS after his first soccer practice. He hasn't wanted to do team sports previously, but has been really into playing at recess, practicing on his own, etc. for the last year or so and we finally convinced him he might like a real team/league. I know he was nervous that he would be noticeably less skilled than the rest of the team, but he worked so hard and really kept up last night. A year ago he would have gotten discouraged as soon as an unfamiliar drill or whatever came up, but he paid attention to what everyone else was doing and kept at it.
I'm teleworking today, and got up at my normal in-office day time to get my workout in before work hours since DS was supposed to have practice again tonight. Practice was canceled due to heat advisory/air quality warnings, he'll be disappointed but I'm looking forward to getting everyone into bed early because I'm exhausted already.

Well, I’m probably part of the mean girl problem, because I have closed our troop to new scouts. That choice didn’t happen in a vacuum, but I’m sure it makes us look unfriendly if anyone tries to join us. I don’t believe volunteers should have to take more and more kids if their troop is working and they don’t have the bandwidth to add more. In our age bracket, I believe our ratio is 2:25. No, I can’t handle 25 kids just because the ratio says I can.
This council is defensive and has been from the jump. I wanted to quit this year but my coleader asked me to stay, since she is going through a difficult pregnancy and did not trust that we would be able to replace me with a committed, quality volunteer that she would need.
livinitup, wow. The love for Elon says a whole lot about a person.
DS is 10 and we have talked about what a garbage human Musk is (in kid appropriate terms, of course.) I would absolutely talk to your daughter. Almost all conversations in our house start with a disclaimer, "Some people think differently, but dad and I think... because..."
My start date at my new job might be held up because my background check is taking longer than usual to come back. I'm worried. There shouldn't be anything there to cause it to not come back clear, but what if there's something fraudulent? Ack!

I got a new desk chair at work. This made my whole week!
STBXH called yesterday. (I answered because he's traveling for work again and maybe something was wrong). All he asked was if I got an email from school that he knows I do in fact receive. What do you want?! Don't call me to chit chat.
