Every election cycle I'm reminded that the girlfriend H had right before we got together is super vocal in our local Texas Democrat groups. I almost responded to her comment last night until I recognized her name. Which is dumb, I've met her a few times because she ended up marrying (and then divorcing) someone else in their friend group and she is SUPER sweet and just lovely (so much so, I asked H, "why'd you break up with HER?" lol). But, awkward.
Looking at tours for Charleston. Looks like the ghost tours only run Wed-Sat for most of them, and we'll be there Sat afternoon through Tuesday.
Not sure what else to have planned. I guess I need to look through old posts for restaurants, but my kid is picky-ish.
We did a last minute trip to Charleston in January and had a lot of fun. My kids loved the aquarium, going to Fort Sumter (mostly for the ferry ride where we saw dolphins), and the Black Fedora Murder Mystery Theater. We LOVED the Black Fedora--they have a TON of audience participation and we had so much fun.
One thing I will caution is that the restaurant scene is intense. Make sure you have reservations for every night, or you will be eating late!
I've been trying to add more weight training to my workouts, I'm normally just a Yoga and walking kind of gal. I did a 45 minute intermediate full body Peloton strength workout yesterday and I'm already feeling it. Normally my DOMS doesn't kick in until the 24hr mark, and this time it's only been like 18 hours so I'm worried for what the future holds for my muscle soreness LOL
First day back at work since 8/20. Worked out this morning wahoo!
I leave for 2 conferences on Thursday. So my goal for this week is to find stuff to binge while I’m gone 😎 Love trashy reality tv, documentaries and true crime if anyone has suggestions (we have Netflix, Amazon prime, max and I think something else).
Happy Monday!
Chimp Crazy on Max. If you have Hulu, the Secret Lives of Mormon Moms.

I had the house to myself for a few hours Saturday so watched the first four episodes. It did not disappoint!! I'll never look at Fruity Pebbles the same. But my god is that show white- the cast, the decor, the hair, everything! lol
So my stepmother, who is a lovely person, just turned 65 and has been a paralegal at the same firm her entire career. 43 years. FORTY-THREE YEARS.
Earlier this month, the Friday before her birthday, the partner she works with called her in and told her that effective the following Monday so with zero warning, she would be going down to 4 days a week, with a 20% decrease in pay. She was livid and asked if there was any negotiation and she was told no, this was final.
So she interviewed with a competing firm, landed the job, got a huge raise, and handed in her resignation last Wednesday. This attorney she worked with had the audacity to be shocked and asked if they could match her new salary and tried making her feel bad for doing such a thing. He told her that he was "helping her ease into retirement" by unilaterally deciding to drop her hours and pay. She clapped back that HE SHOULD KNOW BETTER because that is age discrimination and politely told him to get bent, she's out.
She then told all the other paralegals exactly what went down so it couldn't be spun around after she leaves. I love all of this so much for her. She's really hoping they don't screw her out of her earned vacation time, but either way, she's off to something better.

Shoot spindle92, but I am glad there is a solution for getting her into your preferred facility. I'm sure the surgeons have placed many PEG tubes in elderly patients with success. I hope her experience is smooth and uneventful.

I absolutely cannot tell them apart. They're all like 25, have at least 2 kids, the same hair extensions, implants, lip filler, nose jobs, and excessive makeup contouring, all wear low cut tops and pants and/or athleisure, have shitty misogynistic partners, and carry giant pastel Stanley cups.
It's mind boggling. I think the producers know it too because the put the women's names up on screen what would be excessively if they're weren't clones.

I made it from home to work via the bus bc for sanity's sake its easier to zone out on a nice comfy commuter bus than to drive through thick pea soup fog.
Today is also R's first day home alone w the dog at the new house. She gets from 6:15a to 4:30p no one but her. Hopefully, I'll hear today whether or not she got into the special alt HS. If so, school starts 9/23 (9a-2p) and no homework.

Any kid friendly food recommendations?
Charleston was really hard for us--DD is a vegetarian and DS really prefers plain food. So some of the places had limited or no vegetarian options and there's a lot of fine dining options that weren't ideal for our situation.
Even though it's a complete tourist trap, we all really enjoyed Hyman's Seafood for dinner. DD loved the "veggie plate" (gotta love the South) and DS got a fish dish he enjoyed.
We had lunch at Saffron Cafe and Bakery (not far from the aquarium) which was AMAZING. The mirza (Persian eggplant dip) was so good that we came back the next day to pick up lunch on our way out of town. The pastries were also delicious.

What are DOMS?
Sorry! Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness. I do lift some now, but usually not with the intensity and the amount of weight that I used yesterday. So usually I get some muscle soreness the next day, but not like this. I'm cooked LOL

I'm like you with the delayed onset. Whatever I feel the day after something intense is going to double the next day, ugh!
DH and I saw Beetlejuice Beetlejuice this weekend. It was okay. I really love the original. We have a giant sandworm Halloween blow up and dressed as crazy faced Adam and Barbara one year. The sequel was not bad. It was quirky and had a few laughs, but it wasn’t magical.
We went to Six Flags yesterday and had a wonderful family day. My kids are truly enjoyable. We are so lucky. Yes, we actively parent and are involved and interested in them, and they are total jerks sometimes, but for the most part, they are lovely.
PDQ Last week, my dad was moved to end of life care in the UK so I am sat here, trying to carry on with life but my brain is in a room in the UK with my mum and my brother. I really want to go asap but I don't have a lot of leave and need to go for the funeral so have to stay here for now.
Yesterday I was turning to get something in the kitchen and I slipped. In attempting to stop myself falling, I grabbed the side, which meant i wrenched my side/back as I fell so am in pain from that.
I forgot my reading glasses at home this morning, so I am using a crappy reserve pair I leave at work.
And my kettle didn't work this morning, so I didn't make coffee to bring to work. I would go and get some, but (see back above) I dont want to move more than I have to.
My colonoscopy is tomorrow, so not looking forward to todays prep 😭.
And now there's a hurricane coming in our general direction. Great week 😅.
Hurricane season continues to just suck. I’m glad it’s not coming here because the city is STILL cleaning up from Beryl but Louisiana has been hit hard in the last few years, too. Why can’t they all just be fish storms?

Oh (((spindle92))) what a mind eff. My brother had a PEG (I think?) for a while and it made moving him to a PT rehab very difficult, however there was a (nurse?) case manager who did the leg work to get him moved. I really, truly hope surgery happens tomorrow and you can all move on to the next step. I'm happy to PM even if you just want to vent. Giant virtual hug.
pinkdutchtulips, I've been thinking of you (all), and I hope the move has been smooth so far!

Good for you! I generally enjoy exercising but I have to drag myself to do weights these days. I'm constantly reminded by the experts that it's the most beneficial thing to be doing at my age, blah blah blah, but ugh. I don't wanna.

Today has been the Mondayiest Monday ever and I can't seem to get anything to work right without a process. I'm signed up to do a virtual caregiver support group through my dad's Memory Care place tonight, but it's not until 7 PM so we'll see. This weekend was a bit rough and I think I started to feel really vulnerable(?), however I feel a little better today, so it'll be a see how I feel in the moment decision.
Oh and thank you for all of the help with the notary public last week. We ended up finding someone who could go to my brother's, which was a giant help. I think we paid more than we should have, but in theory I'm hopefully done with my brother's part for months now. I'll keep libraries in mind next time I need to do something on my own, never even thought to ask!
DH and I want to take a vacation this year and I'm really tempted to use a travel agent. We've used them in the past, however stopped pre-COVID because a lot of them weren't helpful if you didn't know exactly where you wanted to go...which used to be the point of TA's? Anyway, booking a trip right now seems overwhelming, so I'd rather let someone else do it and hope they can make recommendations if we give them general guidelines like we want to do an AI or something (I know, I know).
I had a vivid dream the other night we were in NC (no where within reasonable driving distance to me) and I kept saying how I couldn't believe it was so close that we could drive, why didn't we ever go? My friend just went on vaca there and I think it sparked my interest, but we always travel in the mid-late fall now when it wouldn't be all *that* warm, and/or still possibly a hurricane. Maybe someday in the late spring or early summer.

That's exactly why I am starting to incorporate more weight training in to my routine. I'm 49 and fully in perimenopause and everything that I am reading talks about building/maintaining skeletal muscle. So, I'll do it, but not without kicking and screaming.

Have you watched Selling Sunset? Season 8 just came out (Netflix). It’s ridiculous, but I love it.
I’m also going to watch The Perfect Couple. I read the book years ago, but don’t remember that much about it.
Yes! Good call. Maybe I’ll add that cause it is so bad yet so good lolz
Also, my partner and I watched Perfect Couple over the weekend! We never watch anything together ha, but I enjoyed it

@litkispeciality
There have been a few hiccups. She's doing ok for now but there's definitely a tension undercurrent going on. In some ways she's like a powder keg waiting to explode. She spent the night with some of her friends in the old neighborhood over the weekend but I got the sense that they either 1- moved on from her or 2- bc she's stopped vaping/drinking that she feels nothing in common with them.
The upside is that she's interested in resuming going back to school and we think we found an alt HS that will be a good fit for her. She had a talk with her uncle's ex-gf who told her that it might be a good idea to go back if simply for the HS experience. I'm glad R feels comfortable enough talking to her and it just reinforces that while I'm not her 1st to-go person, the person she's reaching out to is giving her good advice.

Oh yes I did start Chimp Crazy!. Mormon moms seems right up my alley, thanks!

I went to see a PT a years ago about my TMJ and she gave me a big talk about the importance of incorporating weight training into my routine. It was an absolute tangent of a conversation, but I found it so compelling.
I've been doing shorter Peloton routines, not sure if it's enough, but I'm definitely feeling stronger.
