I've been trying to add more weight training to my workouts, I'm normally just a Yoga and walking kind of gal. I did a 45 minute intermediate full body Peloton strength workout yesterday and I'm already feeling it. Normally my DOMS doesn't kick in until the 24hr mark, and this time it's only been like 18 hours so I'm worried for what the future holds for my muscle soreness LOL
Got a flurry of work texts/emails yesterday evening that the network was down in our building and authorizing extra telework since VPN still worked. Let my direct reports know, replanned my Monday morning, etc. New email at 7:30 that the network was back up 🙄 If I'm going in, I leave the house and drop DS off at 7, so I would have been very late getting in. My boss okayed everyone to telework anyway, thank goodness. I am remembering why I prefer Mondays in the office, it's hard to get back into work mode after the weekend when I'm home.
It does mean I actually got my workout in today, and will have a little time to catch up after a busy weekend.

Did some archery this weekend with my small folks in tan uniforms. My daughter did a “William Tell shot” and ate the apple off of the arrow like it was a shish-kebob. 10/10 comedy, would recommend.

First day back at work since 8/20. Worked out this morning wahoo!
I leave for 2 conferences on Thursday. So my goal for this week is to find stuff to binge while I’m gone 😎 Love trashy reality tv, documentaries and true crime if anyone has suggestions (we have Netflix, Amazon prime, max and I think something else).
We are having a bus issue where DD's MS bus is skipping the neighborhood in the morning. MH drove her in and said he would email the school and ask some questions, but DD said, "Don't bother. I'll talk to the principal."
I'm both cracking up and proud that she's taking charge like this!

Have you watched Selling Sunset? Season 8 just came out (Netflix). It’s ridiculous, but I love it.
I’m also going to watch The Perfect Couple. I read the book years ago, but don’t remember that much about it.
I got up at 5am to drive home from the beach - not the best idea I've ever had, lol. We are both working today and my H had a 10am meeting IN THE OFFICE so we had to get back in time for him to get to that. I don't know what we were thinking not taking today off, but here we are. I'm glad we had the full day yesterday there, though, instead of driving home last night. Two full days at the beach seemed much more worth the trip (and rental expense).
I am leaving town again Thursday morning to go visit friends, so I feel bad for my pets! They were SO excited to see me when I got home. The pet sitter was still here (because it was only 8:30!) and my dog seemed to really like her and was sad when she left, so that made me feel better about leaving. He is SO attached to me so I'm glad she's a good substitute. Too bad she isn't available for both of our trips later this year, though.

The first Monday after springing forward is so rough and was definitely not helped by being wired and unable to fall asleep last night! But at least I got my grocery order done at midnight?

I really enjoyed The Big Brunch on Max. Love is Blind is a trashy guilty pleasure. If you have Peacock or Bravo, Below Deck is great. Netflix has a documentary called The Bleeding Edge about medical devices and how they go wrong. There’s also one about the Challenger explosion that is shocking.
My kid saved up his money and bought himself a very expensive mountain bike at the end of last season to replace his older one.
Long story short, the bike makes regular riding a lot easier and more fun. But it has made him significantly slower at races. He is so frustrated and it's taking the fun out of it for him.
We aren't really in a position to buy him a competitive racing bike. Like, it would definitely make him *better* but more like middle of the pack instead of bottom third. He's not going to win regardless. But the races are so fun to go and I feel bad that the bike he spent so much money on has taken the fun out of it for him.

I wish he could rent one or something.
I don't know what kind of racing your DS does, but I know that our local bike shop does rentals.
I'm back at work after a week off. I thought I had fixed my sleep schedule having managed to sleep until 6am all week, but, nope, I was awake before 5 again today. I don't think I'm stressed about work. I generally like my job and I'm good at it.
I snagged a Bonne Maman jam advent calendar for myself. I'm trying to decide what to do with lots of tiny jars of jam. Toast? Cheese and crackers? Fancy PB&Js?

jinkies, our local bike shops buy used bikes. Could he sell his and get a bike that is more what he needs? If there is a cost difference could you cover the difference as a Christmas gift?
lavenderblue unfortunately I don't think bike shops generally rent out the type of bike used for competitive MTB racing. Rentals are usually focused on comfort for more casual riders. I wish they did!
DS had a race this weekend and he was so defeated afterward. He actually performed better last year on a "worse"/lower end bike. The bike's weight and amount of suspension are huge factors.
ETA: maudefindlay maybe? I'd actually be happy to help him with the cost of a more race friendly bike, but there are some complicated dynamics in our family at the moment with my DD, and we would really have to think through whether we are willing/able to keep things fair for her.
I switched walking on my pad to mornings and that works so much better than afternoons with my schedule. Also, I was still so hot from walking the dog at lunch I felt like I was just sweating from noon on.
I joined an American Air FB group and it seems they all use the shopping portal for miles. I typically use rakuten, but maybe this will be an easy way to rack up some miles for upgrades.
jinkies - here is some unsolicited advice that you all may have already thought of. Would someone he races with maybe have an extra or older bike they'd be willing to rent or lend to him? Is the racing scene that cooperative? I don't know lol
jinkies - how is his (IIRC) shoulder doing? That was a pretty significant injury, I wonder if it's still impacting him (even just the psychological stuff around being injured)? I'll admit I know next to nothing about mountains or biking or the combination of the two, but I know parenting teens is complicated- you have my sympathy. ❤️
Ok douche, go ahead and call it mud. My husband DID have halitosis. We addressed it after I talked to you girls on here and guess what? Years later, no problem. Mofongo, you're a cunt. Eat shit. ~anonnamus
I'm back at work after DH and I both took last week off to do house projects.
We: built (from a kit) and installed a railing going up to our front door replaced exterior trim on 2 corners after woodpeckers had made a mess of the old stuff laid some stuff out at the curb for free during our neighborhood garage sale this past weekend
I: hosed down some sections of the house that were especially dirty removed the moldy, chipping-out caulking around the upper edge of the bathtub and re-caulked laid down landscaping bricks around our big tree in the backyard cleaned a rug I bought off of Marketplace for my late-night library
He: did a bunch of prep for woodworking projects took in metal recycling
The railing was way more work than we thought it would be since it was a kit, and we were both pretty frustrated that it took so long to put together, but in the end, I'm really happy with what we accomplished - everything that we had put on the list specifically for last week, and then some.

My interview was moved to Teams. The person I’m meeting has Covid. They said I will have an answer today. Please keep your good thoughts coming. My mental health needs a personal win.

9yo was cast as the lead in a musical - they are sooo excited, but also nervous, which led them to be up past midnight last night practicing.
H left town today, and sometimes it's calmer when it's just the kids and I. I feel guilty for that, but H is just a stress ball lately and it gets old.
My 13YO is taking his first long trip away from us on Sunday - a week away in DC with a school group. I'm so proud of how mature he is. When I asked him if he would call me every day he said, IDK, I'm probably going to be pretty busy. I am getting hints of what an empty nest will look like and I don't know how to feel.
cmeon, thanks for asking! He seems to be doing pretty well-- it mostly affects him doing things like throwing or anything with an overhand type motion. But you are right that it may also be causing him (even subconsciously) to be a more cautious rider/ more fearful of falling.
The head coach's son left for college this year. I may see if DS would be willing to ask if he could borrow one of that kid's bikes to test out to see if he performs better before committing to a new one.
He may also just need to decide how important the racing aspect is to him-- he is not the type of kid with a huge drive to be the best, but he would like to at least be in the middle. He may need to decide if he just wants to have fun and ride casually, or if he wants to commit to racing, and therefore invest in a better bike. Competitive bikes are thousands of dollars, so he'd have to be sure that he wants to compete.

That sounds like a great idea- I hope he asks! Even if that bike isn't available, he could have leads on others. Fingers crossed! And I'm really glad he isn't in a lot of pain, kids are so flipping resilient!

Demolition on the main bathroom/bedroom/closet has officially begun! All of the stuff that has been sitting there post-leak-remediation is actually getting moved out and everything is being torn down to the studs to prep for a complete remodel.
It has taken so freaking long to get to this point. The leak was in January. First the remediation, getting repair estimates, fighting with insurance over them; we realized pretty quickly that it made no sense to just repair things back to the status quo, so then it became a matter of planning a complete remodel out of nowhere and figuring out what our budget would be for that in addition to the insurance money. Interviewing multiple designers and working through the design process, around both of our work and travel schedules, has just taken way longer than we ever expected. But with any luck we should have an entirely remodeled main bedroom, closet and bathroom by Thanksgiving. We've been living in our guest room for nine months, sigh.

Yesterday I finally found the perfect everyday bag, which I've been seeking for a couple of months. I wanted something that wasn't cheap looking but not super expensive, that I could put on the ground at the soccer field or hockey rink and not feel like I'm mistreating it. I've been hanging onto a gift card from STBX since Christmas to a local boutique that I love and finally went yesterday. I was looking for some new fall wardrobe stuff but nothing worked out and I saw this bag prenelove.ca/collections/vegan-leather-handbags/products/new-kipling-vegan-leather-tote-3-colors?variant=42563827368036 I'm using it today and it's perfect! I love that I could sling it crossbody if I want also. I also bought a really cute pair of clunky boots that I'd seen on their FB page and loved. Thanks for the gifts, STBX!
Well we (my mom) are still in the hospital. The transport to the rehab facility was supposed to arrive at 12:30 on Friday. At 12:25 PM the social worker comes flying into my mom's room, almost in tears. There was a mix-up somewhere in the paperwork regarding the type of feeding tube my mom has.
For those like me who have no medical knowledge of this - there are 2 main types of temporary tubes. One goes down your nose (called an NG tube) and the other is inserted in your side (called a PEG tube). Well, my mom had a nose tube and the amazing facility I was able to get her into only takes PEGs.
So I said to get her a PEG because I want her at this specific facility. Surgery comes down later in the afternoon and it is determined it is too late in the day to do it Friday, so Monday it is.
While it is a pretty quick and easy procedure, it does require anesthesia and my mother is 83 years old. So of course we are all nervous.
I arrive here at 6:30 AM and wait and wait and wait. Finally we get word she has been bumped to tomorrow because of all the wknd ER activity and more crucial cases needing to go before her.
