My H has been re-grouting our hall shower. It’s a tough project, because it’s all very 70s construction and aesthetics. 1 million little tiles and cement board that needed to be replaced and a blue tub that shows all the dust, etc.
He caulked everything in last night and it looks so bad. So, so bad. And I, being a huge bitch, tried to say something tactfully and it came out, “I so appreciate all the work you’ve done and you’re so close to being done…but it looks like you were frosting a cake…”
He’s mad and took a day off of work to razor it all out and try again. I feel horrible, but, it in fact does look like he was frosting a cake. I don’t even know how you make caulk look that bad 🤣 Poor dear. He doesn’t deserve my commentary.
My husband is awful at caulk as well. He was like, oh I built it up on the sides a little bit to keep the splashes in. It looks like a toothpaste tube exploded.
I think that’s what he thought he was doing - he discovered water damage behind the tile surround that made the project much bigger than expected. But dude, duuuude. This will not be prevented by Bob Ross’s paint palette caulk.
For real. I'm currently doing my mandatory annual training on workplace violence, with the anniversary of an actual active shooter incident in my workplace coming up on Monday. My kids both had lockdown drills last week, schools one county over from us have had threats. Fuck guns indeed, and people who use fear to disrupt.
I did too much at work yesterday and felt pretty terrible - guess I'm not as over covid as I thought. I canceled my work plans for today (would have included ~6 hours of driving and 2 hours hiking) at the last minute, and am instead WFH and taking it easy for another day.
I just switched to part time for child care reasons (75% of full time) and it's really hard to track my hours with my super variable work schedule!
Also, facebook is really trying to sell me on tiny home living. Honestly, moving into something that has just enough space for me and only me is pretty appealing lol.
I can't even relate to "happy" Friday right now. Today our town is on locked in school day #3 and shooting threat #5 of the week. It is only our first full week of school.
My fourth grader knows what's going on, and we had to have those conversations. Her class of 21 had 14 kids present yesterday. That seems to be about the average, about 1/3 of kids are staying home. The fraction is much higher in middle and high school.
My kindergartener is more blissfully oblivious, but struggling to settle into a routine when every day things are different. Lock in procedures, after care is cancelled, can't be outdoors, randomly take the bus home when you weren't expecting to, please find your (8 year old!) older sister, she will help you get home in these unplanned and unexpected circumstances.
Our local PD has said the FBI and state police are involved, but they still haven't identified a caller. I am so worn thin with worry and stress, for their lives, their safety, their peace.
I'm so sorry your district is dealing with this! I was talking to my friend whose kids are there (elementary) and she said one of the classes had like 5 kids yesterday. It's so terrifying, and I can't believe there hasn't been any update yet on it.
From talking to other parents that's part of what we are wrestling with. What if they can't trace the calls? Eventually we have to return to attendance, but if they don't arrest someone, how do we tell our kids it's safe? I was glad to see our PD's post on FB that they are in fact collaborating with NYSP and FBI because I was beginning to get worried they were trying to do it in house and that's why there has been no identification. I give them a lot of credit for their response, but they're swimming in technically deep water with trying to trace what may be VOIP calls shielded by VPNs, etc. Call in the experts who do this regularly. Now. Yesterday.
I have sent my kids all week, but I totally get why HS and MS parents aren't. Even kids at EA elementary given its proximity to the HS. The kids at after care at EA on Wed. were included in the Wed. PM lockdown by extension of the HS. The elem kids were shielded, but by all accounts it was horrifying at the HS, even though there wasn't actually a shooter present. Everyone thought there was, and that's enough.

My kid is still pissed off that leap day stole her Friday the 13th birthday from her and now she has to wait until 2029, lol.
I have a really hard time making habits and sticking with them (yay adhd), but I'm on an 11 day streak of washing my face every night and a 9 of 11 streak stretching every morning. I'm really proud of myself.

Susie, I am so sorry you are dealing with this! A friend's daughter's school was on lockdown yesterday for a threat called in. It's so scary and I am so over it.

We had a great weekend away, but on our way home Sunday, we got a call that there was a family emergency. We ended up driving from Louisiana to Arizona to handle some things and check on the safety of our nieces and nephew. Everyone is now safe and stable, but we don't know for how long, so we're dealing with some legal things. We got home late last night and I'm so exhausted from the metal, emotional and physical of driving so much.

I am violently envious of all the amazing vacation spots UK people have at their disposal. A friend of mine popped off to Turkey, Spain and Greece this summer.
Did you people know that 28 days of paid holiday per year for workers in the UK is the minimum MANDATED BY THE GOVERNMENT. As in some people probably get more.
I just saw a cyber truck in the wild. It was every bit as awful looking as I thought it would be.
The first time I saw a cyber truck, it was the weekend that our town does a "funky car" parade for homemade vehicles, or cars that have been graffitied, or people have cobbled together pieces from different cars to make their own, etc. I thought that truck was an entry in the parade.
I see them around here all the time, maybe it's the same one, idk, but it is ugly as sin.
My 11 y/o likes to tell me every time he sees one in the wild. Not because he loves them so much but because he recognizes that they are ugly as hell.
Same, except my son thinks they are cool (aka expensive). They are SO ugly, it's like a drawing of what someone in the 80's thought a futuristic truck would look like.
I mentioned in randoms earlier this week that DS has been texting his summer work friends (who are H's colleagues and ratted him out immediately) about a girl he's been talking to.
Last night we were in the car and he finally mentioned her to me. He tried to play it very cool and pretend that it was some girl that he just happened to be sitting with because the bus was so crowded. But I know that boy wears headphones like it's part of his uniform, and he is super shy, so if he is talking to someone it's by choice LOL.
I played it cool right back to him though and pretended that of course he chats up strangers on the bus all the time. Nothing to see here.

A concept of a plan of a truck
This made me laugh entirely too hard. The truest thing I’ve read all day.

I got a call at 11 from the school nurse that dd was hit in the head with a golf club at school during an Olympic outdoor activity. I went to pick her up, and called the nurse line who suggested I take her to Children's ER to be checked out...she says she's dizzy and slightly nauseous. So that's how we're spending our day...there are so many people in this ER. I was supposed to be cleaning all day because my brother and his family are coming to stay with us from out of state. Now I'm just hoping we're done here before they get in. Luckily they aren't ones to judge a messy house.

We’ve been waiting on pins and needles for some exciting news and last night we got the answer and it wasn’t what I was expecting. I don’t think I realized how much emotional brain space it was taking and I absolutely lost it in front of my son. I feel really bad for crying because it’s not about me and I don’t want to put extra pressure on him.
Regrouping today and focusing on how to turn this into a positive.
Spotify is convinced I'm a massive Hall & Oats fan and puts their songs in every one of the "for you" mixes it makes.
I am not.
It’s a bitch, girl.
This just reminded me of the “Callin’ Oates Hotline” —your emergency Hall & Oates helpline. If you’ve never called it before, I implore you to do so now: 719-266-2837
I just saw a cyber truck in the wild. It was every bit as awful looking as I thought it would be.
There are a few driving around here and they’re awful. One of them illegally parked next to me at work (permitted lot that they didn’t have a permit for) and they got a ticket. I sent a picture to my coworkers like “look who got a ticket” and one of my coworkers was like “for being hideous, probably.”
I think my 3-day migraine may be finally letting up?
In positive news, and by way of a f/u from a few weeks ago, I think my 10yo has finally figured out how to swallow pills, which is going to make mornings WAY easier.
These texts from the Harris campaign are cracking me up. I just saw a text message pop up on my computer and all it said was "Melissa. This is Robert DeNiro." I was like....the fuck?? So grab my phone and was like....duh. And a little bummed it wasn't *actually* Robert DeNiro.
I feel like the wealthier the neighborhood, the more cyber trucks you see. I don't see them in mine, I live in a middle class area, but David's school is right in the middle of wealth and they are EVERYWHERE there. And golf carts. And middle schoolers hauling ass while giving no fucks on those fucking electric scooters.
