Happy Friday the 13th!
I just have to get through 4 hours today and then I'm done with work until the 23rd. Wahoo! 2 of those hours are supervision, which is both interesting and slightly nerve-wracking. And then after my sessions, I get to go home, pack with my H and at 7pm, we get picked up by our taxi to head to the airport hotel. We'll hopefully get a few hours of sleep and then get up far too early to catch a 7am flight to Fuerteventura (a Canary Island off the coast of Africa). Right now the lows in Fuerteventura are warmer than the highs here in London (it's very cold compared to normal), so I'm very happy about this. One week of adult-only hotel, cocktails, good seafood, beach and pool.

honeydew1894, I remember that feeling when I was working in a secondary school. The entirety of school life is exhausting and the first few weeks are even moreso.
I had the weirdest dream where I ended up in some sort of B&B, but I was staying behind this magic door, which apparently was where Taylor Swift's secret child was being raised. The toddler was adorable and I was more than happy to keep her secret, but one of my weirdest dreams to date.
I slept in 15 minutes and that was the difference between getting drizzled on and being stuck in a monsoon at the end of my run. I couldn't see more than a few feet in front of me for the last block.
I need to walk my son to the bus stop at but after that I don't need to leave the house while I WFH. Looking forward to being cozy!

I have almost zero plans this weekend and I'm so happy about it. DD and I are going to go to the piercing studio tonight because they are having a Friday the 13th special, but that's it. I'm hoping to button up some things in the yard for fall and then drag out all of my fall decor. I really want to go make chili but my crockpot died and I don't feel like babysitting it on the stove.

Lucy missed her bus so I had to drive her in. It was chaos as usual in our house this morning. Then on the way home I stopped at a grocery store bc I really had to pee. They’ve put a lock on the restrooms since the last time I was in there and I had to ask for the code. I tripped over my stupid slides I was wearing. Twice. But I got in, did my business and then got some muffins and grapes for breakfast. And then I’m pretty sure I left a trail of cotton candy grapes on my way out.
The children gave me the plague. It seems to be sweeping through Little Kids school with a vengeance. multiple teachers and students have been out an it's only the second week of school. Little Kid had the sniffles, no fever, covid negative. Now I feel like I've been hit by a bus. Also no fever and covid negative (so far).
mala my DS(8) was sick this past weekend two weeks into school. Easily half the kids in the school are sick. It's the annual share your germs after being separated all summer sickness.
Finally at three weeks into the school year I'm just regular tired at the end of the day not exhausted.
Every year I trick myself into forgetting just how exhausting kindergarten is in September. My throat hurts from talking so much.
I moved to kindergarten this year (I’ve been in grade 3/4/5 support for the last ~6 years). I’ve been in bed every night before 8:30. I always plan a very chill start to the school year knowing I’ll be exhausted, but kindergarten is next level!

I thought today was my day off, and just now realized at 9:30 that I actually am working today. So now I have hours to make up and don't get the day off like I'd hoped.
I can't even relate to "happy" Friday right now. Today our town is on locked in school day #3 and shooting threat #5 of the week. It is only our first full week of school.
My fourth grader knows what's going on, and we had to have those conversations. Her class of 21 had 14 kids present yesterday. That seems to be about the average, about 1/3 of kids are staying home. The fraction is much higher in middle and high school.
My kindergartener is more blissfully oblivious, but struggling to settle into a routine when every day things are different. Lock in procedures, after care is cancelled, can't be outdoors, randomly take the bus home when you weren't expecting to, please find your (8 year old!) older sister, she will help you get home in these unplanned and unexpected circumstances.
Our local PD has said the FBI and state police are involved, but they still haven't identified a caller. I am so worn thin with worry and stress, for their lives, their safety, their peace.

Thank you teachers and support staff, you rock! Hope you all get some good rest this weekend.
DS1 has a meet tomorrow and for the first time our nephew will also be at this meet from a competing school. Will be fun to get to watch both of them and hang out with my brother tomorrow AM. Then DH and I are taking DS1 out later in the day to shop for an outfit for the Homecoming Dance. He's going with a group of friends and it is in 2 weeks, so need to find something this weekend. He says his friends are all wearing suits. I guess at least we have DS2 coming up after him who can wear it in the future too as we never have occasions for the kids to get that dressy.

My H has been re-grouting our hall shower. It’s a tough project, because it’s all very 70s construction and aesthetics. 1 million little tiles and cement board that needed to be replaced and a blue tub that shows all the dust, etc.
He caulked everything in last night and it looks so bad. So, so bad. And I, being a huge bitch, tried to say something tactfully and it came out, “I so appreciate all the work you’ve done and you’re so close to being done…but it looks like you were frosting a cake…”
He’s mad and took a day off of work to razor it all out and try again. I feel horrible, but, it in fact does look like he was frosting a cake. I don’t even know how you make caulk look that bad 🤣 Poor dear. He doesn’t deserve my commentary.

It's my anniversary today. We're celebrating 21 years today. 21 years ago it wasn't a Friday but it was an unseasonably hot day.
Last year DH planned a romantic getaway with flowers, a hotel and dinner. We're trying to save money this year so we're just doing dinner tonight but I'm looking forward to it.

I mean, it's not just that it looks bad, I think caulking like that is more prone to water seepage... So you really had to say something.
We are having work done on our house. Because we have indoor only cats and the workers need to leave doors open/not be focusing on felines, every day we put them up in closed room. The cats aren't escape artists, but leave a door open long enough and they get bold.
Today I am teleworking. I was, literally, answering emails in my pajamas and robe when they showed up--much earlier than usual. The cats had not been put up. So I had to run around in my robe and bare feet looking for them. I could not find the girl cat. So now I'm running around outside in my robe looking for her while I'm pretty sure the entire population of my neighborhood was taking a morning walk.
She was not outside.
Turns out, that jerk was ALREADY in the room where we put them up, sleeping at the far back of a closet, behind our carry on suitcases. She'd made herself an impenetrable fort.
So, I'm VERY awake and everyone who is on our construction team plainly thinks I'm insane.

I'm so sorry your district is dealing with this! I was talking to my friend whose kids are there (elementary) and she said one of the classes had like 5 kids yesterday. It's so terrifying, and I can't believe there hasn't been any update yet on it.

My husband is awful at caulk as well. He was like, oh I built it up on the sides a little bit to keep the splashes in. It looks like a toothpaste tube exploded.
