I assume it's people hanging a foot out the window that lose that one shoe... or siblings fighting with one another, that leads to a shoe out the window
I assume children are responsible for chucking one shoe out a car window.
I want to know what's going on at the house across the street. I don't think the family is living there, but there also hasn't been a moving truck or anything, so I think their stuff is still there? They're also doing some major work in the back yard. And furthermore, I've seen a person driving the dad's car who doesn't look like the dad. So many questions.

A child takes off an adult’s shoe and throws it out the window? Or do adults just have random shoes laying around in their cars?
Or adults get mad instead of grabbing the phone They grab a shoe and throw it at somebody’s head?

I would assume a spare pare of shoes. This is all purely speculation on my part.

I don't know if they still do it, but a local radio station used to keep a count of mattresses and ladders people called in that fell off the back of trucks/tops of cars on major highways.
How did a trash can burst into flames at my school today when someone dripped hand sanitizer over it?
Oh I have an answer to this but only if it was by the chem lab. 🤣
Math class.
Evidently, a kid got too much hand sanitizer, so it dripped into the trash can. Can went whoosh. Fortunately, the science teacher down the hall grabbed her extinguisher, but there's evidently still smoke and ash all over that wing.
A few days ago, I watched my neighbor pick leaves up off his lawn. Individual leaves. One at a time.
We have an elderly man who lives a street away who does the same thing, year round. I watched him leaf blow the clean pavement a few times, my kids always cheer when they see him out there.
I’ve always thought the shoes were probably from people putting them on the roof of the car, forgetting them and them blowing off at different parts of the trip.

I did this within the first week of buying my first iPhone. And several others along the way. As well as my old iPad. I’m scatterbrained 🚩

This just made me remember/realize that I haven’t heard Lance Hildebrand in years. I really liked him (clearly not enough to mourn his absence much).
Snowballs are the big frozen treat here and there are stands all over like other places have ice cream.
It’s a specific style of ice and there are some syrup flavors/topping combos that are odd sounding (egg custard with marshmallow) that are traditional and every stand sells them. Plus normal flavors like grape, orange etc
The massively popular 90 yr old stand near me was bought by some out-of-towners a couple years ago and they decided to change the style of ice, presentation and the flavors while insisting that they are the only stand town doing snowballs the “traditional” way which is inaccurate. It’s like they had an idea of what it was like in the 1930s and stuck with it vs just googling it and getting the facts. Like literally every stand BUT theirs is doing it the “traditional” way.
The stand, which normally would have a line around the block 8 hrs of the day, is a ghost town and rather than adjust, they keep doubling down at neighborhood meetings, events, in articles etc. that they are the only ones who understand the true snowball and will sell nothing else. Like straight up arguing with people and being super condescending. People in my neighborhood are so mad about this I’m surprised the stand is still standing.
It’s so weird because they could be making so much money by making the right ice and putting it in cup. It is such a low effort, high profit margin item. But instead they want to argue and make something no one wants. What is the reason??

Nooo! That’s much worse than old sneakers
When I was a kid, we were leaving the beach and I left my favorite shoes on the back bumper of the car thinking my parents would put them in the trunk on top of all the beach stuff after they finished loading the trunk. I didn’t want them getting buried under all the beach stuff in case we stopped somewhere and I needed them and I didn’t bring them in the car because they were sandy. My parents did not see them, and when we got home an hour later, only one was still on the bumper. Also people throw away shoes or throw them up on telephone wires and some of those probably get blown away. Once my friend’s mom grabbed a toy kids were fighting over in the car and threw it out the window with a swiftness. Those are my answers to this question, which I’ve clearly thought about way too much!

Dh once drove off with his iPad on the car roof. We heard it fall and immediately knew what it was, so he pulled over and ran back to get it, and it was FINE. I was impressed. Of course, if it had gotten run over by a car behind us, I don't think we would have had the same outcome, but luckily there were no other cars at that moment.

This is timely because on the way home this evening I noticed a single, purple boot (maybe knee high? It was unzipped and slouched over) at an intersection with a bus stop. Like … just how? Was someone taking off their boots and the bus came so they had to hop on and leave one behind?

There was a tall, rubber rain boot in the road in front of my house yesterday. Like a dirty work boot kind of boot. Just one. I assume it fell off a utility or some kind of construction truck, because it seems like it would be pretty much impossible to lose such a thing off of one's foot.
Why do my kids only want to talk to me when I'm ready to fall asleep after a long day.
Yes! DS decides at bedtime that he needs to talk about stuff. With him, I think bedtime is when he's processing the day and thinking ahead to the next day, but it's so annoying that it's sometimes several times a week that he has stuff he's worried about.

on the topic of random shoes.
we have a pair of shoes at our house and we have NO IDEA who they belong to. They are a size 6 - me, SIL, DS's GF all wear an 8-9. they've been here for months and I'm going to donate them. But who leaves a random pair of shoes at someone's house that we have not been able to figure out...

Agree. during DS's HS years I would purposely stay up watching TV but waiting for him to come home - he would come down to the great room, sit next to me up close and sometimes talk, sometimes just lay his head on my shoulder/lap. I cherish those times.
but yes, when they slow down and lay down all the thoughts start racing - and sometimes it's easier to talk in the quiet and/or dim light/dark of the evening. it's exhausting - but it's so good.
